Just home from a great 2 week holiday at the Maracaibo, the complex is in a great location, close to beach, bus station and commercial centre. We stayed in a superior room on 4th floor, it had a great view, Aircon and wifi included and a bottle of wine on arrival. The pool area was lovely and food from pool bar was good, staff also very friendly. The only bad point we had was the maid from the fourth floor! We found on our last day that an aqualand bag we had bought from the waterpark which had a few souvenirs in it had been taken from the room while we were at the pool for a couple of hours, the only explanation is it was taken while our room was being cleaned as there was no one else in the room during this time. We also noticed that some of the cleaning trollies had some of these bags on them as people may have left them behind and the maids liked to use them for storage. We were really annoyed at this and didn't want to leave any of our possessions unattended while we were out on our last day. On another occasion we came home to find our laptop broken (screen broken as if it had been dropped), again our only explanation is it must have happened when the maid was in because every time we left the apartment we placed the laptop in its bag in the wardrobe so no way it could have fallen by itself. I don't want to take away from the rest of this hotel due to this bad experience because apart from this we really did enjoy our stay. However we just want to make the management aware of this so they can take appropriate action to ensure this doesn't happen again because unfortunatley we didn't have a chance to say it on check out as our bus was waiting outside!!

We stayed here for a week beginning of August. We had wanted an inexpensive break so we did not choose a deluxe or superior room which was a mistake as the beds were terrible. the actual apartment was lovely though and was great for the money, the hotel is very clean and the staff are great.the building work- behind the hotel is a bit of a dumping ground for left over slabs etc but this seems common in GC.There are plenty of sunbeds and extra seating here and the beach is not far away. We booked bed and breakfast however i think i would not have bothered with the breakfast, its readily available everywhere and the hotel was hit and miss ,the food depleted daily and was not topped up.reception staff were lovely. Dont bother to pay for tv,we only had 4 channels -all news.

Room Tip: Choose and pay for a superior room, we didnt and the beds were very uncomfortable

had a 5th floor room with air con .reception staff made us so welcome we wanted to bring fishing rods but as we only came with hand luggage we couldn't, Monica was so helpful always smiling we managed to buy a fishing rod, so most days my husband went fishing while I went of walking nice walk along the costal path and up the hill, was such a pity that the owner didn't do happy hr or good deals with food not many people eating at night felt empty this area could be a gold mine if more staff were around lacking staff big time the pool area was not manned, people were bringing drinks in glass around the pool no one came to check felt more staff should be around this area! We went to the hotel next door just down the hill they had happy hr 3 times a day and the food in the evening was fantastic with entertainment free, great location would we go back? no was not enough going on, The owner should bear in mind what I have said.

Room Tip: 8 mins from the beach down the hill

Spent our first 2 nights here in Puerto Rico
Initially very busy as we arrived on a weekend with locals.
But much calmer during the week.
Good standard of room (basic room)
TV (requires deposit for remote)
Aircon (charged daily/weekly) - we didn't need it in peak season
Fridge/toaster/kettle/hob/etc - basics required
Twin room (two single beds)

On arrival was a bit of a smell but this went once the room was aired out.
Pools are heated.
Lots of sun beds
The restaurant areas have lots of modern pods/sun beds which also add to the appeal of the area.
Childrens pool and play area also.
As mentioned by others the reception 24hrs (has a small shop) but the shop is across the road also)
Staff in reception were excellent - lady who does during the day in particular couldn't of been more helpful. (deserves a pay rise (management))
Management - assume this is the lady wandering around in the designer dresses (give the reception lady a pay rise if you read this)

Nice location close to everything

We didn't complain as it didn't bother us however management should note -
Room 211 - Staff putting rubbish directly outside the room on the soil section is hardly welcoming
(The whole of the soil/dirty section could do with being tidied up as it ruins the appearance of the hotel)

There are different rooms but we stayed in a standard room which was more than adequate.
Internet is free in the reception area or can be paid for in rooms (not a great connection) but fine for checking emails etc

Overall lovely hotel.

The area - Puerto Rico (purpose built for tourism)
Lovely beach - very busy particularly on weekends with locals and tourists
Amordores (spelling) as above - I would say its nicer 15 min walk from Puerto rico beach

Main shopping centre (shops/restaurants/bars - very busy on the weekend - we ate a set meal for 24euros...starter/main/dessert/drink)
Think they all come in at this price or there a bouts...Just a very busy area which is not us particularly.
Another shopping area near the beach...and at the top of the hill is europa...taxi or walk (500plus steps upwards - nearly killed me)
same as big shopping centre but smaller.

Room Tip: Rooms on ground floor have pool access Rooms higher up have better views. Room 211 had nice views...

The studio apartment we were in smelled awful, we asked to move apartments and took an upgrade to a deluxe room, unfortunately the smell followed us. Every time the bathroom sink was used the drains smelled so bad it was like living in a sewer. The difference between a superior and a deluxe apartment was a slightly better view, a microwave and an iron and ironing board. The wifi isn't worth the money, very hit and miss.
The balcony was small with no view as the balcony surround was solid and too high.
The hotel has apparently had a refit but it is obvious this was carried out on the cheap.
On the plus side the reception staff were very good and the rooms were cleaned daily, the only problem being we were disturbed at about 09:45 every morning and one morning the maid came in without knocking!
If you want a sunbed be prepared to get up early and reserve one, pool rules stated no reserving but nobody enforced the rule, no lifeguard

Room Tip: Higher level rooms have a better view

The Maracaibo hotel is a lovely, convenient place to stay if you are taking a trip to Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria. It's situated just minutes from the beach, shopping centre, town and bus station and the handful of resturants nearby make it perfect! We stayed here for a week in peak season and there were always sunbeds available around the pool till around 11.30 in the morning and tables by the bar at night - which we loved because their huge cocktails were delicious!! I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying the area. The rooms were clean and spacious and the staff are all very friendly and helpful.

Had another great holiday at maracaibo. Staff are excellent and very friendly. Great location for the beach and shopping centre. Excellent room on the 4th floor, very clean and what a view from my balcony. Great pool area where I could relax and soak up the sun. Great place for families and visitors all get to know each other. I have been going to Maracaibo for the past 15 years and always had a great time. Thanks to all that staff from top to bottom for a fab holiday. X
