“First time in Puerto Rico”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2014

This hotel came recommended to us from friends who had visited many times. We (2 couples) took a 10 day break here, which was also our first time in Gran Canaria. Previous hotel comments on this site rated this as great and we were all very much looking forward to the experience.

The hotel has a spectacular view of the sea and the hotel itself does much to make your holiday a very enjoyable experience. The rooms are very large, well equipped each with great views of the ocean.
Unfortunately we discovered that our rooms were directly below where the beer barrels are changed/kept at the reception floor pool bar area, and these barrels are moved around after the bar closes - this was around 01:00 hours - so be prepared to be awakened and if you have children you do not want these rooms - level 1 block 4.

The staff are all very helpful and fun, especially the restaurant and bar staff, the evening entertainment is all very well organized and enjoyable, although we felt the kids club show went on too long and often ended around 21:00 hours

There are however a few comments I would add which detract from the overall rating of the hotel and I use our previous "all inclusive" holidays within Europe as a benchmark.

Firstly upon arrival after a flight delay of one hour we arrived at the hotel at 23:30 hours, there was confusion at reception with our room allocation as there were 4 of us - two married couples each with their own room - but they had put three adults into one room and one adult into another, this seemed to take an age to fix, especially as the rooms were next door to each other. We were even asked if the rooms were for the two men and the two women, clearly the surnames would have given a clue to the booking.
When this was sorted out and each couple settled into their room we then discovered that the all inclusive aspect finishes at 23:30 hours so any coffee, drinks or food would cost extra - even though this was the first night and we already had "used" the all inclusive aspect for this night. We took a coffee and retired to our rooms, hoping the holiday would be better for the rest of the period.

The hotel and resorts surrounding it are all very good and the walkway along the coast provides excellent opportunity for a stroll either day or night.

We found that the food was warm but not hot unless you took the cooked meat or fish directly from the chefs. No lids are used to cover food on display so vegetables cool quickly.
Also the hotel indicated that the restaurant requires men to wear long trousers for evening dinner, and we dressed to accommodate this requirement which is common in good quality hotel restaurants throughout the world, unfortunately this hotel does not invoke this rule even though it is clearly advertised before entering the restaurant, with many men wearing shorts and sandals/flip flops. Our previous year in Cyprus men were turned away from the restaurant until properly dressed as per hotel requirements i.e. long trousers, so we considered if it is a requirement then it needs to be adopted.

Furthermore we tried to arrange a late check out from the room as our flight pick up was 18:00 hours. On previous holidays this has never been a problem with some hotels charging extra and some not. This hotel will not even consider a late check out until the morning that you leave and then there is an additional cost, which is reasonable but because of the initial problem at reception regarding three persons in one room and one in another when we arrived and which we thought was sorted out, getting a late check out because of this error proved problematic and time consuming. It was eventually arranged after around 15 minutes but then we were informed that the all inclusive aspect to our stay ended at 12:00 noon. We felt a little let down by this as we had lost the first day due to the delay in arrival, and we would not get lunch without an additional cost. . When returning to the room after 12:00 and having arranged the late check out our room cards did not work so it was back to reception to have them reactivated.

Overall the hotel is very good, but we agreed that we would not return.

Thankfully these problems did not effect the overall enjoyment of a holiday in Gran Canaria.

Room Tip: Rooms on level 1 block 4 below below the pool bar not suited for children due to noise of steel beer...

Returned from this hotel on 19th June, 2014. There is not much I can add to all the previous reviews which confirm this hotel to be a favourite of many, including me. The hotel sits dramatically on the cliffs overlooking the sea. The hotels lifts can be confusing and slow at peak times. The only let down we had was coming back from a walk to find the lower lift was out of action- its no joke climbing up four flights of steep stairs in a hot climate!! Take the walks along the seawall to either Puerto Rico or Amadores.after breakfast or dinner to burn off a few calories
All staff were very helpful and obliging which enhanced the holiday experience but I do wish the management would practice what they preach and insist guests comply with the dress codes at dinner. I know it is a holiday hotel but there is a limit to the number of tattoos/ body art I wish to see on arms and legs at mealtimes.
The naturist area is not very private. Any guest trying to get an all over tan has got to walk through the sunlounger areas to get to it and although the area is screened off with opaque screens on three sides the design on the glass could invite peeping toms to invade the privacy of the naturists.

Suggest any intending holiday maker, before making a booking here, checks they have the correct hotel as there seemed to be a certain amount of confusion from guests we spoke to between this hotel in Puerto Rico and its sister hotel the Gloria Palace Royal at Amadores. We looked around the Royal and it seemed on a par with this Gloria Palace although a bit quieter Having spent a holiday at the Gloria Palace San Agustin last year I would have no hesitation in recommending all three hotels for an excellent vacation. You pays your money and takes vour pick. Personally I would put Gloria Palace San Agustin first as I thought their food slightly better

Room Tip: I am biased but Block 2 high up takes some beating

So here we are again, in a really really good way. You may also have read previous reviews and to be fair there isn't much more to add from those.

what I will add is if you are lucky enough to be able to get here then do so as soon as you can.

Why? Superb staff; most excllent sunbathing weather; excursions along a different and stunning in its own way coastline; food that is varied and has something for all tastes; a laid back atmosphere.

You want romantic? Tick You want family child friendly break? Tick You want young person first holiday abroad? Tick You want retired people looking for adventure? Tick.

Single person? You will be looked after the same as everyone else.

Next year we might try somewhere else but we have fallen in love with everything about this destination so let's see........

We stayed at the Gloria Palace Hotel in May this year with friends, they went in 2013 and had a great time so we decided to go with them this year.
We had a fabulous time. We arrived late and the restaurant stayed open for us to get a snack and drinks etc. We stayed on the 4th floor in block 2, overlooking one of the 2 pools. The rooms were spotless and huge!! Brilliant facilities, rooms cleaned everyday, maids very pleasant. One tip would be - ladies take a hairdrier as the ones in bathroom aren't great.
The pools were really clean and massive with plenty sunbeds and comfy mattresses. We ate most days in the snack bar upstairs at lunchtime, sandwiches, homemade pizzas and were delicious. Breakfast and dinner in the main restaurant were good, plenty choice, something for every taste. Good drink service at the pool bar during the day, goood choice of well made cocktails and pleasant staff.
We enjoyed a daily walk down along the front and a jog in the morning down to Amadores beach and along the other way to Puerto Rico - it took us a while to find our way down to the prom - lifts a stairs everywhere got abit confusing! We went out a couple of nights, down to Yumbo Centre Playa Del Ingles (Gay centre, Sparkles Bar is very good) was about 30 euros in a taxi, and another night for a Chinese and drinks in Puerto Rico, a nice change.
The Entertainment in the hotel wasn't the best, but it didn't really matter to us, we were more interested in socialising and making our way through the cocktail list!!!
I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting an all round good hotel with great facilities, food, drink and fabulous views over the sea. We went the week before half term so there weren't many children, the children that were there seemed to be kept entertained with the kids club. We had a great time!!!

Room Tip: Block 2 you get good view of the pool and the sea. Ask for high floor.

Simply can't put into words how fantastic our experience was of the Gloria Palace. This was our first holiday away together and it couldn't have been more perfect. We were greeted with champagne on arrival and invited for something to eat (even though it was 1am!), and were blown away by the sheer size of our room, balcony and our spectacular view.

We paid a deposit for a safe for piece of mind but felt very safe in the hotel. Our room was massive and immaculate with an extensive balcony with two sun loungers, overlooking the sea. We had airconditioning but because of the position of our room, we didn't need it on all the time. Always had an excellent night sleep so were happy campers!

Food was always fantastic and the service was impeccable throughout our stay. Perfect location with a lift down to a walkway which leads you to Puerto Rico (with better shops and restaurants) and Playa de Amadores, with a better beach.

Going all inclusive was a fantastic choice, pretty much any drink you want and an array of cocktails day and night. Neither of us were that bothered about the entertainment and to be honest, it wasn't great but it was something to do after dinner and a bit of music and drinks (brought to your table) went down well!

We would 100% recommend this hotel and will most definitely be returning soon.

Room Tip: Rooms on the bottom two blocks, into the cliff face are away from noise and have gorgeous vieews

Stayed in Gloria Palace at Easter ,this is a lovely hotel , rooms are great size and views are fab.
We booked half board but upgraded to all inclusive after one day which was much better value .
Great variety of food although gets a bit repetitious towards the end of the week which is the same for all inclusive packages. The staff were very friendly and very professional .
Great holiday .

Room Tip: High floor any block
