Have just got back from a week in the Altamadores apt in Peurto rico. I always read the reviews before I go and take little notice of the occassional silly remark. Most of the reviews were good so felt reassured before we went. We endured a 3 hour delay from Newcastle so got there a lot later than planned. However we went through passport control with noone ther! Result. We collected our bags got on the coach as got to our accomodation in the early hours. On arrival there was noone at reception at first, then a fellow appeared to check us in (with very limited English) however he did help us as best he could by showing us to our room. The room was very spacious and very well equipped tho not really needed as we were all inc. Now I read one comment which said the beds were the 'worst' ever slept in. Well sorry but the beds were fine they even has an extra mattress topper which was lovely. We found our way to the restaurant which was near our room (114). The selection of food was VERY GOOD despite comments complaining about the food. There was cooked food, continental choices. yoghurt, fruit, breads, cakes and pastries with jams, honey etc. The food at each meal time was good. Some days I wasnt keen on some of the stuff but that was down to my personal tasts. However there is no way I starved ( Iput on 3 lbs that week). The pool area was lovely and we did manage to get sunbeds. As usual the 'early birds' had the towels on the beds at daft o clock but this happens everywhere. What really imnpressed me was the bar. Everyday there were jugs of red/white wine and Sangria which were replenished all the time. There is a beer tap and best of all there were every type of spirit/liquers/mixers out on the bar for people to help themselves. We have been on many all incs. worldwide but have never seen this before, so well done to the alta. I read several reviews regarding Jamie G the entertainment chap. I take my hat off to him he works his socks off to organise events such as games/quizzes/bingo etc to try and please everyone. But there is always someone who has to moan isnt there. Come on give the man a break, he is a lovely chap and does a great job. Keep up the good work Jamie G. We were told that Gran Canaria is 'hilly' and wow is it. Its certainly a challenge to walk either down to the beach (lovely) or up to the Europa centre. We managed even though we are in our 50's. However the taxi service is brilliant and is cheap. If you have booked to go to the Altamadores please dont be put off by the less than complimentary comments. We had a lovely week there and would gladly return without hesitation. What some people need to bear in mind (namely the complainers) is your paying 2/3 star prices therefore cannot expect 5 star standard and you cant please everyone all of the time. I have been in very poor so called 4* hotels around the world and would defo not class the alta as one of these. It was great value for money so if your going there dont worry you will not be disappointed. PS there are refurbs going on but was not intrusive at all. Our room (114) was quiet with a lovely view and our own sunbeds on the terrace too).
