“Finca with a Vista Bonita!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013

I wasn't sure whether or not to write this review because I'd like to keep Finca Vista Bonita a secret but it's also the kind of place you want to share with everyone because it's so lovely! We hadn't been to Tenerife before and didn't know what to expect. So when we found ourselves winding our way up the mountain with incredible views of the sea behind we thought we'd done okay! The apartments are all nicely decorated and have amazing views out to sea and you can't hear the airport even though you're only about 12 miles away. The whole place is set up to give you a quiet, peaceful and stress free holiday (you are not close to any bars or nightclubs). There is a practice room / yoga room on site and you can book in a massage / reflexology session if you want total relaxation. It was a wonderful holiday and we will definitely be back!

Useful tips?! ...
A car is really important to make the most of the area and not feel too isolated. We booked with Goldcar at Tenerife airport but because our Ryanair flight was delayed by more than 2 hours and finally got in at 01.30am the car hire kiosk had closed. So we had to get a taxi to our apartment and pay to go back to the airport the next day. We were charged £55 for full insurance and about £70 for a full tank of petrol (though we only used about half!) However, Autoreisen - another car company at the airport did stay open until 01.30am to make sure they didn't leave their clients without cars and gave them the car with 1/4 tank of petrol, so you could deliver it back with the same amount and only pay for what you used. So we will definitely book with them next time.

Room Tip: The apartments on the top floor have great views and open sky. The apartments on the first floor hav...

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2013

It was the second time that I visited this accommodation. First in April, now end of August/September 2013. What we enjoy most, is being far away from the touristic places downhill. The view is magnificent: on your left (when it's sunny, which is usually in the mornings) you can see Gran Canaria and when looking straight forward, you can see the sea. The appartments are very nicely decorated and supplied with toaster, juicemaker, coffee machine and magnetron.

When we arrived, we were given an appartment on the 2nd floor. But as we liked to barbecue (which is situated in the garden) we asked after a few days for an apartment on the ground floor, which was absolutely no problem, they fixed it right away! As for the village, you can find everything you need, all days of the week. El Horno has splendid bread, open every day. The Coviran (supermarket) is also opened till evening, even on Sundays. Although not the friendliest staff, you can find everything there, except fresh meat. Don't forget to visit The Bazar: you cannot believe the stuff they have for such small money :).

Enjoy the island in many ways: make some startling walks in the National Park El Teide. You can get a map at the information booth that is situated near de Parador, just on the way to the teleferique. But also visit tourist information in San Miguel: there is a really nice walk to Aldea Blanca. It is about 2 and a half hours walking, and by arrival in Aldea Blanca we rang a taxi to get us back to San Miguel. We finished the day with a very cold beer on the terrace opposite the fuel station in the village. This man also sometimes has grilled chicken (amazing taste!) for 6 euros. Try to learn a few Spanish words by heart, and you will make friends forever!

Besides the walks, we visited Santa Cruz and the Anaga mountains. These mountains are incredible beautiful, please do not miss out on this when you are visiting Tenerife. You can end your day on the beautiful beach La Teresia, north of Santa Cruz. The best kept secret is La Laguna. There you can see how the islanders lived a few hundred years ago, very easy going city, as is Santa Cruz.

Beware that, when you are staying in San Miguel, that it is much colder than downhill places. You are staying in the mountains. Also, frequently clouds will appear from the north. So if you only want warmth and sun on your holiday, this is not your place to stay. It can be 28 degrees below, and on your terrace you have to deal with - say - 23 degrees Celsius. If, however, you want to experience real Spanish life and also love to make tours, we can really recommend this place. Take socks and sweaters with you, even during Summer, so you can still enjoy your terrace in the evenings! Last tip: you really do need a car to get there and to go about.

Room Tip: If you want an appartment with a broad view, ask for 2nd floor. Disadvantage: no roof, so when it ra...

Although the name that Tenerife was given does not correspond to the truth ( for us Europeans spring means something different) it is a magnificent place to spend your holidays both quiet and active ones. The place is away from the big and noisy cities but not too far (about 20km). At the same time it is close to popular kite-surfing places. For those interested in nature there two spectacular places to visit - the highest peak in Spain - El Teide also an inactive volcano and the laurel forests on the opposite side of the island which used to be abundant in the entire Mediterranean region but now can only be found on the Canary islands.
The hotel is calm and quiet with pretty good service. It is a surprisingly good deal as well. You can choose whether you want to go out for dinner or have it in your apartment quietly, even prepare it yourself. The hotel is quite suitable for children with its yard as well as grown-ups who want a nice day next to the swimming pool.

We arrived early evening on Christmas Eve to find the main doors locked and a notice pinned to the door giving us a telephone number to call - luckily we had our mobile phone with us - but had to wait for someone to call us back and give us instructions on how to get into the apartment which did make us feel a bit of an inconvenience even though we had notified them in advance of our arrival time, however they had left us a nice bottle of local wine and a few tapas which helped to revive us!

The apartments are decorated in traditional rustic style with some nice touches which we liked and the views are spectacular.

A couple of minor irritations - the patio door didn't lock and when we eventually saw the owner two days later we were just told oh well no-one will try to get in - not sure our insurance company would have agreed.

The apartment was advertised as having a DVD player but it didn't - just a TV.

As has been mentioned previously it is several degrees colder in San Miguel de Abona than down on the coast and the bedroom felt decidedly cool and a little damp although a heater was provided, I felt it never quite got rid of the mustyness.

Having said that, the gardens are lovely and the atmosphere very peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony in the sunshine just looking at the view.

San Miguel is a long walk down a very steep hill for shopping - we did set off on a couple of walks from the Finca but overall we made more use of our hire car than we had anticipated.

Overall we had a good holiday - not sure we would go back again in winter but it was certainly good value for money, especially for Christmas.

The lodge itself has a really beautiful view!
We just wish that we didn’t have to run into those issues.

Thursday morning we did NOT even have cold water. No water at all. They couldn’t fix it that day due to holiday. We understand.
Then they downgraded us to a small apartment two floors lower, where the view cannot even compare.
When such inconvenience happens, most hotels will compensate the customers with better rooms; here they downgraded us and told us that we were supposed to be in one of those apartments. That is just not right.

We only had one night left before flying out. Packing and unpacking waste a lot of time. They have both apartments available, so we asked perhaps we could just sleep at the original apartment and use the other one for shower. It’s only one night anyways, but they did not want to convenient us; they said that they had rented out our original apartment already, (yet the water was still not available). We had to pack and unpack and pack again within 24 hours.

Now you can imagine how we feel about Tenerife and Spanish.

There were other things that we just put up with. Overall it is not that clean; the towels didn’t spell fresh; pillow cases were stained; cups had egg shell in them; not enough hot water to take comfortable shower. We are seasonal travelers, so we put up with these, but things just got worse.

Thanks to the guidance by Beanie06 (below), we found the place easily. One slight correction: when you get to the T-junction in San Miguel (i.e. where you have to turn right from TF 65 to TF 82) the sign actually says "Granadilla" to the right. The "Teide, Vilaflor" sign will come later, after passing the Gama agricultural cooperative, where you have to turn sharp to the left, uphill.

We were two couples travelling and were given the "Casa Gato" apartman, with two separate bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom, a kitchen and a terrace, all tastefully decorated in rural romantic style and with an artistic spirit (one of the persons running the complex is a sculptor and his sculptures are scattered around the finca). The place is run with a soul, friendliness, artistic touch. We particularly liked that they did not come to clean and change towels during our three-day stay (the opposite is a bothering, superfluous and boring tradition of the hotel sector). Unfortunately, we did not have the time to take part in the morning relaxation lessons (no extra charge). But even a short conversation with Maryam filled us with energy! Thanks for the tip to eat at Restaurante Playa Chica in El Medano!

We were there in mid-May and had to use double blankets at night (as it was around 10 degrees). Don't forget, you are more than 600 meters uphill, and since the house is rural, don't expect perfect thermo-isolation at the windows and the doors. Oh, and those having the road-side rooms, expect to wake up with the neighbour's rooster early morning:)

Just back from a week at Finca, was, in general, delighted with the accommodation.

* Found the direction difficult to follow in the dark. Follow the signs from San Miguel from the motorway, going up a winding mountain road, (get used to the winding!) the road takes you through San Miguel, follow it until you come to a T-Junction, take a right, to Villaflor, Teide etc. You will drive through the town and just beyond the town ( you pass farmer Coop- GAMA on the right-which by the way is the handiest supermarket for you) take the next left up a hill. After you climb for a minute or so there is a wooden sign (hard to see in dark on a road to the left. You will konw you are on the right road as ahead of you, down this road, is a large neon restaurant sign for Asador Il Portillo ( the finca entrance is directly opposite this restaurant.
* You need to ring a number (signposted on door) for someone to meet you and give you your key.
The apartments are well equiped with a lovely kitchenette, bath/shower and great balcony.
If you are going off season it is cold at night so bring warm pjs!
* There is no welcome pack of tea/coffee/sugar etc. so bring what you need. Towels, dishclothes/tea towels/washing up liquid are provided.
*There is a handy washing machine in the complex, €3 for a wash, just make sure you have 3 X euro coins! the restaurant across the road obliged me with change.
*You will need a car if staying at this accommodation.
Be sure to avail of a treatment from Amalia, she is a wonderful lady, who emanates healing energy!
*The pool and jacuzzi are indoors and a lovely treat.
*The common room has lots of books in its library, alot in German but a few in English. there is wifi available if you bring your own laptop but no pc access.
