After searching the resort of Llafranc on the Costa Brava to find somewhere to watch the first Lions match, we stumbled into this spotlessly clean little bar on our way back to our hotel for a last drink the night before the match.

Asking out of curiosity ( what did we have to loose ) we asked were they showing the game tomorrow ? " YES " at noon....so if your holidaying in this area & are looking to follow the lions rugby while on holiday..." this is the bar "

We told a group of people staying at our hotel for a wedding....they were thrilled & all 15 arrived, there were some Scots from the night before, 2 more welsh guys who heard the roar when George North scored, plus several more.

The owner served us all efficiently ( a beer was €2 ) the food was great & not expensive, the welcome quietly happy & warm.

So folks if your in this area be it for rugby or just a holiday visit this little bar.....it will be our regular stop for a last drink in future.

This small, modest place one street back from the beach was a great find - delicious, fresh, home-cooked food at very reasonable prices. Bertu himself cooks and serves. We were sometimes the only guests - it felt like eating at your granddad's house!

The first remarkable thing about Ca'n Bertu is that it is one of the few restaurants daring to have its business away from the (quite scenic) beach walks, where the bulk of them are. It is however worth paying it a visit. The owner is extremely friendly, and shuts the TV when customers enter the place so don't let that turn you away if the place is empty and you're hesitating based upon what you see from the outside. Also, he turns on the AC when customers arrive, so don't let the first impression of warm/heat turn you away either. The room decoration isn't the warmest either, it must be said. Particularly annoying is the crowd rotation to use the cigarette dispenser machine, one of the few in town it seems.

The menu is probably the most original in Llafranc, compared to the other more oriented to the knowledge of tourists about local cuisine. The squid mixed in broad beans dish is probably not to be found anywhere else (at least in that area), and the veal/eggplant dish we had was quite good too. The wine list is short but do ask the owner about his recommandation for your dish. As is the case in most restaurants in Catalunya, the wines are rather inexpensive, powerful, but not overwhelming either.

So we'd recommend this place out of the many we've been eating out at. A good surprise might be in the bag for you as well..
