Area:
tacky and loud. Beach is very nice but very very crowded. People trying to sell you things every 2-3 minutes. Gets quite annoying after a while.majority of restaurants and eating places are very English / Dutch serving chips and egg and sausage. Most tourists when we were there we're Dutch German and Russian and a few English. This is a very tacky and shabby resort but not rowdy with lager louts just very noisy with thumping music past midnight. Parking is near impossible. We requested hotel parking twice but never got a response from hotel.

Hotel:
It is Voted number one in the resort on trip advisor which made me shudder to think how bad the rest must be.

It is trying hard to be trendy but the quality is not there. A few trendy interior touches around reception allude to quality but this is far from true.

The food is nothing short of awful. We paid for full board. Huge mistake. Hot breakfast lukewarm and greasy. Poor quality ingredients. Cold items like ham and fruit and salad were dried out and tasteless well past their best. Dining room is indoors with no option to sit outside for lunch or dinner. Dining Room felt like a prison tables very close together . Also saw two chefs laughing at an overweight guest and making gestures to each other across the room. Staff in dining room were very unfriendly but would pounce on you to get your room number. Ordering a drink was difficult. A jack n coke and gin n tonic came to 17euro. Very Expensive! We visited the dining area 5 times in order to give it a fair shot and eventually decided we couldnt face it another time. Desert was really awful. All food had very Limited choice and not fresh at all. Some things even tasted that sour out of date way.

The rooms were very clean and the housekeeping staff very very friendly. The rooms however are tiny. There is a great shower but no bath. All rooms have some sea view which is nice however you are flanked and overlooked on one side by a huge imposing hotel and on the other with a rowdy campsite which also pumps music out past 12 even though I doubt they are allowed to. Apart from that the balcony was fine!

Whole hotel was clean and the older gentleman who was the night receptionist could not have made us feel more welcome. He was a gem.

There should also be an enforcement of no reservations on sunbirds rule ( we got up at 8 am and never once managed to get a sun bed at the pool. All were lying empty with towels claiming them. Patrons did not occupy their claimed beds until aprox 10 am. Very frustrating but I know this happens in a lot of hotels.

I guess you get what you pay for.

I will never return to this place.
High points: free wifi , clean room and the weather.
Lows: food, hotels restaurant staff, loud tacky town.

Room Tip: bring earplugs.

location was dreadful. loud pumping music. looked like blackpool in the sun... utter tack. Food was the worst I've ever eaten anywhere. have no idea why some reviews said it was good? food that was supposed to be hot was cold. cold food was disgusting too. blood running out of my chicken and a raw egg omelette ( and i like my eggs runny!!) if i ate here i was certain to contract something nasty. cramped hotel. VERY rude staff.

positives: clean room, great shower, bed was comfy (though you can't sleep for the thumping club music that comes from the campsite next door and lasts through the night. no one cared when we mentioned it)

WILL NOT COME BACK. do not waste your time and money coming here!

Room Tip: bring ear plugs and don't eat here.

Very clean with modern boutique’y ambiance with glimpses of art deco. 4star sup rating. Adults only. Located in the so-called “front-line” right on the beach, separated from the second-line hotels by a single track railway and road. The main footbridge across the track and road is located just by the hotel so there are lots of people always to’ing and fro’ing there. Resort bigger than I thought, must have been about 2km from end to end, hotels, bars, restaurants, souvenir shops, small supermarkets and market trader stalls every 50ft in the main area opposite the hotel. Tuesday’s large street market, mosty clothes and bags, no hassle to buy. Large Carrefour and Lidl almost next to each other up on the main road, you’ll see them on your way in.

Room on the 5th floor was of a good size as was the balcony with 180 degree views from the beach on one side to the mountains on the other. We were facing south-west overlooking the huge campsite but high enough to only see the pine tree tops in amongst the tents and caravans. Balconies were semi-circular so you could see into neighbours balcony, and one could also easily climb over.

Walls and ceilings are paper thin so don’t expect a lie in. Woken before 7am each day by the noise of water in the pipes from the shower’s and WC’s, people talking, TV’s, and doors banging. Nightimes were very quiet past 10.30pm in the hotel and about 12.30pm in the nearby strip.

Room just like the photo’s. Adequate drawers/shelves but only about 10 hangars (no trouser hangars)which wasn’t enough for us. Bathroom of adequate size with lovely rain shower, no bath or bidet. They supply toiletries which were changed daily, including toothbrush and cotton buds. Towels also changed daily. Pool/beach towels supplied at reception, EUR 10 deposit each. Shaving mirror and very good hairdryer so we didn’t use ours. No kettle for in-room Tea & Coffee….. probably as most guests are all-inclusive. Good a/c. TV only had BBC World News. Small fridge but no ice compartment. A couple of small bottles of water were provided FOC. Safe is EUR4 a day or EUR20 a week with EUR10 deposit for the key. Plenty of room for ipad/ video camera.

Nothing untoward to say about the meals, all adequate for a week’s stay. Decent selection of wines and beers, nice big measures, but no Sambuca if that’s your tipple. Breakfast was open until 10.30am, eve meal closed a bit early for us at 21.30pm.

All Staff we came into contact with were excellent in all respects and only the cleaner struggled with English.

Pool area was adequate, most days virtually all of the loungers were taken…. a problem if the hotel was full. Every day the loungers around the pool were reserved early. It’s late morning by the time the sun came around the west side of the hotel where the unreserved loungers were. Pool itself was deep enough but just a little on the small length side. Pool is lit up red at night…. very strange colouring as if someone’s bled in it ! Beds on beach were reduced by 50% for hotel guests at EUR3 and the same for an umbrella.

Located directly on the massive beach – grit not sand – which meant walking was very heavy going. If you could cope with the grit then you could walk for miles in either direction, or use the promenade which is set back from the beach. Some days quite wavy otherwise fairly calm sea but large slope into the water which sloped very steeply under the water so you were neck high within ten feet. Lilo’s were very popular, and cheap in the shops EUR8. Beach vendors but no hassle if just say no.

10 min walk left to the train station, EUR9.80 return for the slow but scenic train to Barcelona on Renfe Rail R1. Ticket machine by the platform or over the road in the Renfe ticket office. You need to stamp your ticket at the machine on the platform prior to boarding. It goes to Sants station but easier to get off at Playa de Cantalonia for the metro interchange. Note timed entry for the cathedral and Park Guell.

Minimal evening entertainment (piano player, DJ) but they weren’t well supported by guests anyway, most selecting to go elsewhere. There were some good entertainment spots with live bands and singers along the strip. On occasions it was so quiet around the hotel that we welcomed the sounds coming from the campsite.

As well as the mainline railway there is a choice of 3 Butlins-style tourist trains which take you on small tours for about EUR4, also a ferry which stops as places like Blanes and Lloret up the coast.

Other bits:
BA flight from Gatwick, delayed both ways.

Transfers were with FROM2 travel. Positive side was that we were dropped off and collected from the hotel door rather than walk from the main bus stop the other side of the railway track opposite the Alpha Hotel. Negatives was – on arrival we had to wait over half an hour for a bus containing all those who had landed at Terminal 2 (i.e. EasyJet, Monarch, Ryan Air), at least on the return leg the bus stopped at Terminal 1 first. Including stops, the bus took about 1.5 hours. Collected 4.5 hours before take-off. Not much to do at the airport.

Took a catamaran trip out of Lloret, “Sensation”. Booked at the kiosk on the Lloret beachfront. EUR42 for 4 hours including beer, sangria, sausage/beef burger/rice lunch. Goes at 10.30am and 3pm I think. The morning session they will collect you from the hotel. Bit disorganised at the beach (it leaves from the beach in front of the kiosk) but once underway it was great. Went up the coast towards Tossa stopping after an hour for swimming and lunch in a small popular bay. Snorkels were available but not much variety of sealife to spot. Much more of a party atmosphere on the trip back. The music was loader…. all over too soon.

Trip to Lloret involved train to Blanes (EUR5) then coach to LLoret bus station (EUR3.7).

Would I return – probably not as there are many good hotels in the world, but recommend, yes, very.

Room Tip: All have sea view, those facing north east get a hotel in the way, those facing south west get a noisy campsite.

We came to the hotel, and got two rooms. First of all, one of the room smelled like a swimming pool, because of the chlorine that came from the bathroom. This was the room number 212, and you DON'T want to get that room. It was just outside that they had their bar, and you can't even dream about how loud the music was. You couldn't get any sleep at all.

We complained about getting no sleep, and we got another room the next day at the other side. But next to the hotel there was a very big camping area for young people. Every single night, one person had to scream into a microphone, so everyone in the city could hear him. And the music was so loud. It lasted for hours, and it was EVERY SINGLE NIGHT.

The service was okay, BUT the food was horrible. They had some plain pasta, that they just had cooked, and even that tasted like NOTHING. Don't they know the Word seasoning? None of the food was worth eating, I wouldn't even give it to my dog. So terrible, and I can't understand why people say it's great food.

All in all, it wasn't good. I am so surprised that everyone leave good comments. We agreed that we should have stayed in Barcelona all of the days, we were on vacation, because this wasn't worth the Money at all.

You shouldn't book a stay at this hotel, or at any hotel in Santa Susanna if you want a relaxing vacation, as we did. 'Cause you won't get any.

Room Tip: None of the rooms were good enough. If you stay Down at the first floor, you won't get any privacy. If you stay up on the hightest floor, the music will be louder. So don't book a stay at this hotel.

Dear vacationsismyfave,
We have received your comment. Thank you for taking the time on sharing them with us.
We want to appologize for the inconvenience the noise in the camping may have caused you. We are going to have a talk to the manager from the camping and see if there is something we can do.
I will also have a talk to the cheff and see if there is something wrong with the menu, because we have a very wide variety of over 30 dishes on each service suitable for everybody. What may be true, is that we do not like to spice everything to much, specially salt. But we will have a look at it.

Regarding Santa Susanna, it is true it is a holiday resort with everything this involves. But maybe you were looking for something different.

Once again, thank you for comments.

Kind regards,

Gabriel B

I couldn'd wait to get to this hotel after reading the excellent reviews. Yes there were one or 2from people who had gripes but generally they were pretty good so I was keen to see what all the fuss was about.

The manager should take a bow for having such a good crew around him they are great.

The people who have make comments about the food being a bit same do have a point. There is a core of dishes there most days and this is to cater for The wide range of nationalities. Added to that there are different meats and fishes freshly cooked to order. The wine with the food is exceptional for an all inclusive resort. Usually they are ordinary or plain poor but not here.

Sunbeds reserving are a problem whilst this is down guests being rude the hotel could do more to police this. The pool bar staff are so helpful and we never had to queue and we used the beach bar a fair bit and you have to pay a small extra for this its nice to sit and watch the world go by as the sun goes down.

Overall i can't recommend this place enough, even the resort is nice and relaxed without being rowdy.

Dear Andrew B,

Thank you for taking the time in sharing your comments with us and the tripadvisor community. It is a great pleasure for us to know you had such a good time and enjoyed your stay with us.
We are trying to solve the issue with sunbeds on the terrace. We have set signs advising guests not to reserve the sunbeds, but of course this depends of each guest. We will keep on working on this to provide the best service.

I also want to thank you for the good mention on all our staff. I will pass the comments on to them.

Once again, thank you for your time and we hope to have the chance to see you back in the future.

Kind regards.

Gabriel B
