This is a really lovely hotel, especially as it is only 3 star. We stayed 24th July for 10 days. I had emailed the hotel prior to arrival to request a family room - they emailed straight back with the cost €320 for the stay but explained that there were no family rooms available at this time, but to ask when checking in. This I did, but there were no rooms, we were given our key by a very friendly receptionist. We went half board.
Rooms - our room was a quad - there was a double and 2 singles (which was good as we were travelling with a 13 year old girl and a 17 year old lad). No, the room was not big at all and I had to use the cupboard where the mini bar used to be for my clothes.....but we don't travel light! Perfectly adequate for our stay, we even managed to play cards around the balcony table in the room one night. The view was out to sea, tucked in a corner, could not see the pool but can hear the music. The air-conditioning was excellent and well needed. The rooms were cleaned daily, and towels were changed if you left them in the bath (a normal and good procedure)' the sheets were changed when you left a blue card on your bed asking for them to be changed. The only thing we found was the floor was not very clean....but a minor issue....I just wore a little pair of flat pumps everywhere.
Reception - excellent service, very friendly staff and helpful. All the ones we spoke to could speak English and if they didn't know the answer to our questions, or didn't understand us, they went to get help. We arranged a hire car through reception, a lovely lady called Lauren called the company and they came with the car the next day.
Pool - the pool was not very big but there were no issues with getting in and being able to play and swim. The pool did get murky by the end of the day, but my daughter said that in the morning it was clear and she could see all the way across the pool. There are lots of loungers around, and cleaned and returned to their original places at the end of the day. We did not rush down and yes, there were towels on most of them, but we did manage to get 4 loungers together ....no brolly though, you have to be early to get one of those, but there are tables near the hotel bar that you can sit on and these are in the shade by lunchtime. You can collect a sun lounger mat - these are €1 each - but we just used our towels. The waiters also serve drinks out by the pool, they walk around so just get their attention.
Dinner/Breakfast - the dining room is very large and very occasionally there was a queue - but it did not take long to move. They have a system that you wait at the front and are seated by the staff - I thought this was excellent as you were not fighting over tables with other guests, or trying to get cups and crockery. The waiters only took you to a ready prepared table. This happened both at breakfast and dinner. At dinner you were given a slip of paper for your drinks order. A waiter would come over and get your order - you would then hand this slip in and pay as you left dinner - it worked well...yes a queue at times but nothing major. The food was excellent, always plenty to have for breakfast, rolls, bread, jam, sliced meats, cheese, cooked breakfasts etc..plenty of choice. The same for dinner time....a selection of mains, pork, chicken, veal, fish...and on different nights, hamburgers, hotdogs, kebabs, fresh sea fish, desserts, etc. lots to choose from including salad and fresh fruit. My children always found something to eat...my daughter loved the pasta.
Santa Susanna - if you walk out past the pool you will come to the main promenade. There are loads of shops and stalls to keep you entertained. There are a couple of mini funfairs - one if you turn right and the other on the left. There are quad bikes and normal bikes to hire - we hired 4 mountain bikes for half a day and cycled to Malgrat - further up,the coast. The beach is on the other side of the train track. There are passes under the track that you can take ...this is no problem and there is one just slightly to the left as you leave the hotel via the pool. The beach was nice, a bit shingly (ie sore on the feet) and when we went the sea was quite rough and the life guards were bringing in any floats of any kind and not letting little children be in there by themselves...very sensible really. The life guards are on duty from middle July to middle August. Us beds quite expensive at €6 each and the same for a brolly. Also lots of people wandering the beach selling watches, hats, drinks etc ...about every minute!
Costa Brava - we also travelled a little bit as we had the car. We went to Water World - excellent water park, lots of good rides, but be warned, it is set on a hill so is very steep. Most people put their towels on the grass rather than a get a subbed, which were in short supply anyway. We took the boat to Blanes - nice town. Sunbeds cheaper here at €4.50 each same for the brolly.
we also went to Tossa - lovely beach, not as rough as Santa Susanna, but that could just been the day we went, no people touting for business either. We also found a nice little cove.
Quite a long review but I know they can be useful. All in all, a lovely holiday and I would definitely recommend this hotel.
