My trusted travel agency was determined to make a name for itself. I had previously read about cave hotels in Cappadocia but, while attempting to work a trip on my own I had shied away from what appeared to be luxury at luxury-cost for a Turkey first timer.
Lo and behold, my customized trip included three nights at Perimasali Cave Hotel. The modest cost included a simple, yet lavish breakfast. Fresh almonds, Turkish coffee, fresh fruit, home-baked bread, figs, eggs cooked to order. No steak because its Turkish style . Couple of things that stood out about the breakfast experience was the rich view of Urgup/Nevsehir, a former Greek abode studded with caves and well maintained, centuries old buildings. Another striking feature was the personal attention lavished on guests during the meal. Staff was attentive without perceptible hint of presence.
I am a smoker. I would step out of my room on to one of several multi-level bays along the steps down. No sooner had I parked that one of the staff ran out (literally) bringing me a fancy cushion to insulate my posterior from the stone ledge. Now this is service!
The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable, with modern amenities. This place must have been just built. All appurtenances appeared to have been installed recently.
Tasteful décor to exceed that of the best of Hiltons. Yes, I have experienced some of the best in the world both, during travel with the US Navy as well as during travel as recreation. For some unexplained reason these three nights happened to be the most restful of my entire fifteen days in Turkey. But, we’d get up in time for breakfast!
This property currently offers seven units. Plans are underway to expand the facility to twenty-two units per my understanding. Saleh, the proprietor, entertains challenging visions into the future. We chatted at length. I do not understand when he dreams it all up. We found him awake and available at all odd hours of the night. He just seemed to be there, always there in his one room, first-floor office, available and willing to help. First night we were in a quandary as to where we would eat. He left his one-room mansion and walked us to a restaurant around the corner. No comment about the excellent fare at this restaurant since this review is focused on our hotel. Next evening we forgot our way to this restaurant. Sure, there’s Saleh walking us over to the restaurant again. I felt silly but felt assured that Saleh, being busy, would forget us in a few days.
The town hosting this hotel is relaxing, quaint, unadulterated by modern twists, mountainous with gentle slopes; a pleasure to walk in. The Cave Hotel itself is a step back into history; its ambience accentuated by a subtle resonance of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phanton of the Opera).
Some photos included in this review depict the hotel in a cluttered location - caused by the prosumer camera lens utilized. Commercial Real Estate photographers use specialized lenses beuond my reach. However, once inside the walls, the property is as picturesque as its surroundings. A visit to Cappadocia is incomplete without a night at a real Cave Hotel.
