“Okay for a short stay”
Reviewed 1 November 2013 via mobile

The Eskibag hotel provides you everything nescessary for a short stay. Friendly staff, clean rooms and basic breakfast. If you want your stay on the island to be a bit more funky, pay a bit more money and have the 'weekend-on-a-lovely-island' feeling what brought you here.

Stayed there two nights in September.

The first night, or rather, early into the second day, an alarm went off. With no instruction, guests came out one after another. The alarm continued for a good half hour; no explanation or anything from the hotel staff. Am not sure if every guest evacuated; no staff went around the room or counted the number of the guests or nothing of that sort. They eventually tore off the wire of the alarm to forcefully stop it. After that, still, no explanation.

In the morning, still no explanation or apology or anything. Amazing....

The second day, when we came back to the room, there was no sign that the room was cleaned.

No service there at all....

It should not be a typical Turkish way, as the other two hotels we stayed in Istanbul and Canacali did have ordinary services.

Will never stay there again.

Hello everyone, after long time i'm back on writing reviews (it is only my 3rd time).

We went here with my girlfriend few weeks ago, to make our summer worth something. And finally i've found this hotel with nice website and nice photos. On island now, standart hotel prices are mostly around 120 - 200 lira now for not so luxury, standart nice hotels.

So we came here and picked the terrace floor room with really nice terrace. Room is small and there's no elevator, so everytime you want to come to your room, you have to climb up steep stairs which really make you tired if you smoke. Smallness didn't bother us because we like cosy atmospheres i think. And terrace is fabolous. You have really nice sea view, and also forest and general houses view with sea gulls around making noises. It is nice to smoke out there. But after 10 minutes we came to hotel, a really big wasp came in to room :/ I'm so scared of bees.

Okay, now the important parts are coming. They have service(little boat called something like Rıza Baba) to their own beach, called Eskibağ Plajı (and Halik Koyu as well). On their website, plus in the room, it says like this: Service times going to beaches are: 11.30 - 12.30 - 1.30 (these i don't remember very well). But i remember turning back ones really well: 16.30 - 17.30 and 18.30.
So, we went to beach with the first one, we got our cheap fake sun cream because of our rush (because of laziness) and got there. Beach s good beach, there s restaurant over there and şezlongs (deckchair in english i guess) and you have nice port to jump from if you are not so tall like me and you have few jelly fishes (we call it sea-mother in Turkish).

Everything was fine, we swam like 4 hours, and then we decided to go back with 4.30 pm one. Because we wanted to eat over at the island, not over at beach. Guess what did they tell us? "There's going to be only one service and it's going to be at 6 pm." I said what are you talking about, you told us and it says everywhere 4.30, 5.30 and 6.30! The older guy says that we decided to make only one go-back shuttle since there aren't so many people (there are like over 60 65 people, almost more than capacity of the little boat)!

I'm telling you the reason: to sell more food for dinner in restaurant. I insistly didn't eat anything and told it to him, that i'm not gonna eating over there, i'm gonna eat on island. I asked him if this is something decided by hotel or not. He says bla bla bla. Because he knows nothing is gonna happen to him by hotel. By the way, "he" is the guy responsible of many things over at the beach, running restaurant and stuff i guess. Since he is older, he probably decides when the shuttle is gonna go. Of course he is more pundit than the writing in hotel and on hotel's website! That's what i only don't like about here sometimes, system has gotten really bad. People don't care discipline if they aren't going to get trouble. All Mediteranean Europe countries (türkiye, italy, greece, spain etc.) kind of has it though. I've never been but i don't think in sweden or say even germany you could see this easily.

This is showing they don't care their customers that much, because you already pay before you stay for 2 nights (or how many ever you are gonna stay). You may say, come on swim for ona and half hour more but it is not the point. We already got our showers and dried and waiting to go, and no announcement or anything. Just tell us at least before you decide that ridiculous thing! And when i said to hotel reception about this of course they didn't care (as i knew already). They said ohhh, they normally always let you know but this time they forgot probably. Bla bla bla... Ofc he is not going to say, oh come on we have our deal with them, they carry you for free, don't make it problem, i'm not gonna cancel our boat just because you waited 90 minutes(come on, a football match time!).

So it made us really angry. I just hate that when they do it. And one more thing i was really concerned about. Olympics was still on and there were no channels showing olympics. But there were other few hundred or thousand very unnecessary channels. I told them to fix it and of course they didn't. They said instead: "sometimes customers come here and delete channels, we can't find them back". I could find better lie than that. That time i remembered i'm not in a 5-star-hotel. It's just "boutique" (means customers take care of theirselves, we don't care that much) hotel. And i was actually sad that we are paying 360 lira for two nights.

And one more last thing or two. There are 2 guys who are in reception by shifts. The one we talked in beginning and who showed us rooms and made 20 lira promotion, a little fatter one compared to other one, and older as well, is the really good one. Other kid is terrible. Talking to him is like talking to wall. When you call the reception, he tries to close the phone to your face as soon as possible. And he is there on internet on facebook or whatever, he doesn't even look at your face or smile or anything. He looks at you, he thinks ahh customers already, and doesn't even care.

Aaaah anyways, sorry for writing so so much. It wasn't a bad experience completely. But these few things were more obvious to me than little nice terrace. So i would advise you to stay somewhere else to be honest. Sorry the good reception guy, it's not your fault, it's the other kid's fault. Try to make him go lol!

And breakfast wasn't that best by the way. And it's at entrance floor while it's at terrace floor at Marine House. And the worst thing you want is a damn lady watching how many cheeses you are putting to your plate while you are at open buffet. She just stands there and watches everyone, like she buys all the stuff and she is going to take them tome if you don't finish. We were always uncomfortable to go back to table and get more bread etc. Ahhh i hate that too!

Oh i have to stop now, cheers everyone! Have a nice holiday! Don't ride on poor horses, they don't treat them that well i guess, and would you like to carry a family on your back? And drivers of them are usually terrible people with only-seeing-money in their eyes. Don't get tricked by classical bargaining tricks of them, they will try to show you that they are decreasing the prices down, while they are still charging you double! Poor horses ya!
Cheers :)
Kıvanç.

Ohhhhh how did i forget, the bed!!!! The bed was terrible!!! Sleep quality was on floor! The bed was extremely hard! It was really, really hard. Any dormitory or anywhere in the world you go, you probably find softer bed. And pillows were like air-pillows! Blankets had so disturbing texture! We had to ask for different sheets and blankets on our second night. Of course they had all same beds all the rooms! But the good reception guy found one different kind of blanket luckily. If we would say it to other kid, he would turn his head back to computer without answering lol. Good point to remember! See you!

Room Tip: In despite of that bad reception guy(the young one only) and no discipline hours back to the hotel f...

The location of the hotel can't be much better. Hotel seemed just been restorated (but i did not ask if it was), every detail of it was brand new (wallpapers, furnitures, curtains, wooden stairs and floor furnishing, etc.). Frontdesk personel was very helpful and smiley. The breakfast was also quite delicious and diverse. In general, all the areas were so tidy and clean. Probably the only unpleasant fiction was that high vocal "seagulls" flying above the hotel - which doesn't concern the hotel itself. They just won't let you sleep and are all around the island. I reccomend you to bring a pair of ear-plug. Have fun!

Room Tip: no 404 with terrace.

The view of Istanbul is amazing...to get a balcony that you can sit and relax on, request rooms 403 or 404. There is a lot of light in all the rooms, but many of the rest look like they are quite small. Very clean, everything works great, except for the wi-fi, which is spotty.
