A MUST BOOK for any sitting in all the holiday months - it was our 3rd attempt to get a table ,0This time - for a table in the 1st week of July booked a week in advance - very helpful staff over the phone, responded to messages and called to confirm any message received - GREAT

Funnily enough good food too , T'other half is the seafood /fish eater & enjoyed the mussels , with an enormous portion : But to see & then receive a steak well cooked Bleu , was an added delight .
Good portions , pity there wasn't any draught beer (pub next door - might oblige??) - so only bottles .

We'll book again & if sat outside - can take the dog too

We came across this place by accident after visiting another restaurant in Teignmouth. Being sort of local (Torquay) we were surprised at how such a popular restaurant could have escaped our attention (we eat out quite a bit). We were able to book an outside table on a Friday evening in July and were extremely pleased when we got there and the sun was out; the views down the River Teign really are beautiful.

OK, pros: the food is incredible. I had crab as a main and my wife had turbot and hake. We were both extremely happy with the outstanding quality of the food. Service was very good too. The manager of the place gave us a genuinely warm welcome and she was never too busy to flit between tables, making sure everything was ok and chatting with customers. The ambience was exceptional. We sat outside and that beach part of town is really busy with people BBQing on the beach and drinkers from the pub next door all bustling around. Watching the sun on its slow descent while enjoying the meal we couldn't think of anywhere else in this country like it. It did obviously cool as it got later but blankets and outside heaters are provided.

Cons: just the one, really. Portion sizes weren't quite what we would've liked. We had bread and dips as one of our starters and there was more bread (four smallish pieces) than there were dips; there was not enough bread to actually enjoy the dips. While I was happy with my crab my wife's fish was just two smallish pieces with some salad. Side dishes too were not over-generous. If we hadn't ordered extra bread and a portion of chips we would have left without feeling satiated. (Incidentally, we are both average height/size.)

Regardless, we will definitely be going back to The Crab Shack. I think maybe because we tend to starve ourselves a bit on the day we go out to eat we'll perhaps have a small snack later in the afternoon when we go back to this restaurant.

This restaurant is simply the best in fresh crab as well as seafood and fresh fish. Hard to get a reservation so we managed to get a table after the lunchtime rush at 3pm and we were pleased we waited!

The Crab Shack is situated on the back beach at Teignmouth with stunning views of the Teign estuary. On the night we went the tide was in and the sun was shining, it was a beautiful evening.
The staff were very welcoming and the food was something that any Michelin chef would be proud of.
I had a pint of Prawns (shell on) as a stater and Moules Marineire as a main course. Locally made ice cream for sweet. There are choices of Crab and lobster dishes all freshly cooked. There is also steak and vegetarian options.
And, the realy great thing about this restaurant is that everything is fresh, local and is responsibly and sustainably caught.
You can't get better than that - we'll be back.

Visited Teingmouth recently and found the jewel of Devon.
The food was so fresh the local fisherman bought it in off his boat. Some long haired local in shorts and T-shirt, just as you picture a fisherman in your head.
After being lucky to get a table we ordered the sea food platter( do not have breakfast if your going for lunch!) it was fantastic lots to eat, greatly presented And FRESH! Being from near London and having to entertain clients I have eaten in some classy fish restaurants and this is up there with them!
WELL DONE TO THE OWNERS, and staff. And of course the chef. Ramsey eat your heart out mate!
