We are regular visitors to The Bay, hadn't read any recent reviews before booking our latest stay (end of June). Didn't know it had changed hands. We were warmly welcomed and staff looked after us very well, everyone was pleasant and helpful. We did have some requests and they were swiftly dealt with. Our rooms were nicely decorated, clean and comfortable and we saw improvements being made elsewhere in the hotel. We enjoyed our breakfasts in a lovely room, a relaxing start to each day. Although we did not eat in the restaurant, we look forward to doing so on our next visit!

Having read recent reviews of the Bay, we were not sure what to expect. We stayed for one night in early July, having enjoyed our previous visits. Our room was clean and well presented and the housekeeper was very helpful and, clearly, taking her job very seriously. We did not meet the owner, but the reception and other staff were efficient and friendly. This is an older hotel and so needs a bit of ongoing maintenance, but the location is perfect for a visit to Teignmouth. The breakfast was well cooked and adequate in size, although more coffee would have been appreciated.

We didn't check trip advisor until after we had booked, and were quite worried beforehand. I honestly have no complaints though. All the staff we met were very obliging and polite (didn't see the owner). The room was comfy and clean, and other areas in the hotel were also clean. Some new carpets have obviously been added in the bar/dining area. All the options you would expect at breakfast. Regarding the hot breakfast options I only had toast, but other members of my family enjoyed the cooked stuff.
The location was really handy - right by the centre and the sea front, and close to the train station.
All in all, we had a really good experience there.

Room Tip: I was booked in a twin room with my sister. My parents booked a double, but didn't realise you h...

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. We were happy with our experience. Our room was clean and had a lovely view of the ocean. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast each morning was a bit bare and boring. I really think that could improve it a bit.

Absolutely appalled by the owner of the hotel whom is called Shirley...myself and my partner sat in the bar for some quite drinks which the owner was sat in...she was stupidly drunk and her bad language and foul mouth appalled us and we ended up walking out :( terrible hotel owner and the staff are no better, using it as a social meeting rather than a respectful work place...my room was a complete mess and they had to give us a new room because they hadn't bothered getting our room ready...they are all lazy and to interested with flirting with each other and discussing there social lives...we are absolutely disgusted with our stay and will not be going back let alone recommending it...so ashamed to say we stayed here

Having stayed at this hotel for many years under Alex and Jacqui my husband and I were shocked by its demise under the new owner when we stayed last week for 5 nights. We love Teignmouth and have always been welcomed as part of the family and felt so at home. From the outside it is shabby and unkept, the entrance is falling apart and the once welcoming reception is now replaced by what looks like a ticket office. There has been some interior redecoration but the word 'tacky' comes to mind. I will say that our room was clean, tidy and comfortable but missing the lovely personal touches that were there before. The staff were very pleasant, friendly and doing their best to make us comfortable. There is no chef so the only food available is breakfast (cooked by the owner!!!) which now makes the Bay a very expensive B&B. The new owner lives up to her reputation as stated in previous reviews and is, most definately, not the sort of person we would every like to meet again, therefore we shall not be staying at the Bay again unless it changes hands and reverts to its former glory, and we would not recommend a stay here to anyone. It is such a shame.

We shocked the staff by going into the bar at around 1215hrs and asked for 2 x Lime and Soda and 2 prawn sandwiches, brown bread. FIrstly no brown bread, 20 minutes later the drinks had not arrived until we threatened to walk out, then another 10 minutes before the sandwiches arrived. Then the staff decided to use the bar as a social club which was not conducive to a relaxing lunch. There were dead flowers strewn on the bar for about 40 minutes and the vacuum cleaner was abandoned, spread across the hallway. A puppy then escaped from behind the bar and got so excited it made a puddle on the carpet. Had been here before and the place was properly run,
