Great place to stay. When it gets muddy it is really sticky (the type of soil). Fantastic showers. Handy laundry facility on site. Children thrilled to see glow worms and loads of toads. Thoroughly recommended.

We stayed here with a group of friends for the May Bank Holiday weekend (end of May). We usually avoid going anywhere on Bank Holidays, so was expecting it to be hideously busy, but were pleasantly surprised...the power pitches were fully booked, but the owners had the good sense not to overbook, so it didn't feel cramped and busy.

The site is split into several smaller areas, so a group of you can easily congregate in one area away from everyone else, and for the really noisy party people there is a big field at the far end away from everyone else! We were pitched halfway along beyond a small area of woodland, and the kids loved walking to the shower block through the woods every morning...armed with sticks and on a bear hunt!!

There is a little playground suitable for 2-6yr old, but bigger kids seemed to be perfectly happy riding bikes etc around the campsite, and I spotted a rope swing down the far field as well, so something for all ages. I gather there is also a games room, but we didn't look at this.

The pitches were all pretty level, grassy and not boggy, and with an average amount of stones/tree roots to manouver tent pegs around! Most areas were quite sheltered from wind etc as surrounded by woodland, but this did also mean quite a lot of bugs etc in an evening...also watch out for ticks in the bracken which my children inevitably managed to find!

The shower blocks were adequate, with five toilets and showers, and ten washbasins each (male/female)...I never had to wait for a shower over the whole weekend, but I guess I may have just been lucky. They also had two family/disabled bathrooms available for a key deposit, which were brilliant for bathing small children...they are essentially large wetrooms, with toilet, basin, shower, and a heat lamp so no-one gets cold...and come equipped with baby bath. The only comment about the showers is that they were only cleaned mid-morning, and on a busy weekend, they could have done with a quick mop over at 9/10pm as well so they weren't too grotty for the early morning users.

The washing-up facilities were at the back of the shower block, again were clean and tidy with plenty of hot water, and never had to wait. They also had a large selection here of leaflets about local attractions, which was a big help. The shop was fantastic, stocking not only the essentials of bread and milk etc, but also a selection of camping accessories, and even penny sweets and bits and pieces the kids could spend their pocket money on.

The location was perfect...a short drive from Monkey World, and a bit further afield to Lulworth Cove, and the steam train from Corfe Castle into Swanage. Plenty still to do in the area, and we plan to return later in the summer if we get chance, and in the meantime have recommended to everyone!

Wonderful people running this place, fantastic location. the facilities for a site within a conservation area are good and always spotless. Loads of wildlife and birdsong, a variety of pitches in sun or shade near the woodland or out in the fields. This site is not lit at night so if you find a problem with that, easy, take a torch. The shop is well stocked and the knowledge of the proprietors of both the local area and wildlife within the site is extensive.
Everyone I've met here is relaxed and very friendly and seem to be enjoying themselves. I've stayed here for several years in a row and everyone I've introduced to this site think it's a lovely place to stay. It's rural and it's quiet but one thing it definitely isn't is a holiday camp so don't go there if you want everything on site like bright lights and entertainment laid on but if you want to relax and explore and enjoy views and wildlife and be near a lot of Dorset's attractions then you will love this place.

Our first camping experience and what a great location to begin! A well run series of camping/caravan fields (pot luck in terms of pitch if you don't need electricity like us), but it worked well for us. Quiet, lots of shade and the kids loved it. Little walk for the shower block but worth the extra walk for the secluded field we were in. Well kept, clean and lots of care taken to keep the site tidy.

Well done!

Had high hopes of the site having found it in Countryside Discovery but were very disappointed. We had informed the site when we booked several months before our visit that we had two cars, a gazebo plus tent. Were shocked when we arrived to discover that we had been allocated a pitch in an overcrowded section. There were two tents and two caravans all squashed together, with not more than three metres between us. Our 'view' was either our own cars or other peoples, again only a few metres right in front of us. When one caravan arrived, the managers had to use a tractor to manoeuvre it into position as there was no room for the owner's car. Everyone was rather upset about this. I think we were unlucky as other parts of the site were better. It is all very well being in an area of outstanding beauty, but this is ruined if it is packed full of cars, caravans and tents.

The female manager was very friendly, but the man was known as 'Grumpy'.

There were great nests of flying ants around, which descended on some unlucky people. The owners of the motorhome opposite us had to take down their awning and just stay inside their vehicle.

There were many other complaints but the worst was that there was only one tumble dryer and washing machine. The staff were extraordinarily unsympathetic when the tumble dryer burned and ruined our clothes - it overheated, started smoking, and plastic melted and stuck to our clothes. Their response was appalling, just saying that their insurance might take months and that we would certainly not get 'new for old'. It was a bizarre experience to suddenly lose half my family's clothes in the middle of a camping holiday.

Other campers had other complaints but said that they would probably not bother complaining, but just never go here again nor recommend it again. I have learned to be less trustful of positive reviews as I now know that there might be negative things about a site, but people do not want to relive them when they get back home. I have also lost total trust in Countryside Discovery as this site was so very overcrowded and it was like camping in a car park at times.

My family and I camped at Rowlands Wait this year. I found the owners to be very helpful and knowledgable where the local area was concerned. We were camped in the bottom field of three, which is a long walk for kids to the Shower rooms / toilets, especially at night (no lights on the paths). Would suggest to the owners that they invest in a shower block at each end of there site. Also advised the warden that the kids adventure park was damaged and could cause injury, but nothing was done to rectify the problem.

This is a lovely place situated in Bere Regis, about a 5 minute drive from Monkey World. The site has modern and well kept facilities, including private shower cubicles. The wife and I were camping and set our tent in a field with a lovely view of the Dorset hills. The field is used for couples and groups where as the main part of the site was for families, so it was a bit noisy with the kids playing and stuff but the atmosphere was excellent. The ground we were on was slightly bumpy as there were a few crop stumps, but if you have the correct stuff it wasn't a problem. The main site was very flat and in good condition. Overall i would highly recommend this site to anyone visiting Dorset and in particular, Monkey World.
