A 3 night stay and a consistently high standard throughout. The attention of staff was exceptional, particularly in the dining room. Food quality was superb.

This is also a great spot for exploring the Dorset coastline.
We would particularly recomment Nat Trust site at Studland.

We have been going to SL for about 4 years now and I can honestly say we have never had cause to complain about anything. Don't get me wrong - I love a good moan and as my husband would testify, I think this is the only hotel we have stayed at where we HAVEN"T changed rooms. Don't go to Summer Lodge if you like an action packed weekend with a lively bar, Do go to Summer Lodge for a relaxing break - what a country hotel should be. The staff are marvelous, (they all know your name) especially Eric the sommelier, and the manager Charles is warm and charming.
Over all SL is not a cheap weekend, but I promise you will leave there relaxed and happy with the world.

This was my first stay at Summer Lodge, and what a weekend to remember. We took a family friend to celebrate his 60th birthday; from the time we drove up the drive to our departure the service was excellent. The hotel requested likes, dislikes and treated us to our choice of music and reading materials in our rooms. The food was amongst the best I have ever tasted and the chef deserves a Michelin star, both sommeliers helped us select some fine wines which complemented our choice of cuisine and were not to expensive. The service and welcome by all staff was great without being over the top. Every time we left our room, we came back to find it restocked, tidied, or cleaned, this was unobtrusive and the small personal touches impressed everyone. The pool and spa are an excellent added extra. I hope to visit again

Our second stay at summer lodge was even better than our first which celebrated a wedding anniversary.
This time we were joined by family to celebrate a 60th birthday.
The hotel requested our different preferences, likes, dislikes and treated us to our choice of music and reading materials. we deliberately chose a different room as they are all unique, all were excellent.
The cuisine was amongst the best I have ever tasted and the chef deserves a Michelin star.
The service and welcome by all staff was exemplary without being intrusive.
Both sommeliers were professional and enabled us to choose appropriate wine that was delicious and not frighteningly expensive.
Every time we left our room, we came back to find it restocked, tidied, or cleaned. This was unobtrusive and the light personal touches impressed everyone.
The pool was an excellent added extra. The gardens are well tended and the location charming.
We will return again.

We have spent another Christmas at Summer Lodge and enjoyed every single minute of our stay. We have now spent several Christmasses here and it never fails to delight us!! When you work hard all year and look forward to time together it is so important for it to be just right - and the Summer Lodge always is!!
We stayed in room 15 which is fantastic - it has a massive bed, balcony and walk in wardrobe. It has very comfortable TV viewing - perfect for all the DVDs that are on offer!!
Every single meal was wonderful - from breakfast (lovely waffles with maple syrup for me!!), afternoon tea (all home made!!) and our evening meals. The tasting menu on Boxing Day was truly exceptional - with Eric doing a great job of choosing wines to match each course.
The pool is lovely, and we spent long afternoons lazing, swimming and reading in the lounge area.
Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in in the UK. I am extremely fussy! We have already booked for next year!!

This was our second visit to this gorgeous hotel, set in the picturesque village of Evershot. Not particularly large, the hotel is a real gem: the decor and furnishings are superb, the staff friendly and attentive, the food is very good (although a little expensive - as is the wine list).
Our room was sumptuous: fabric-covered walls, marble bathroom, silky cotton sheets, a hot water bottle popped in the bed for us every night - it couldn't have been more comfortable.
The lounge is elegant and a real wood fire made is very cosy at this time of year. Here you can take light snacks, drinks or just sit and admire the garden or play a game of scrabble. There's also a very cosy, although very small, bar area - again for drinks and snacks. The restaurant is very elegant and service is excellent.
The gardens are not particularly extensive, but large enough to allow privacy. During our stay it was festooned with white cyclamen and thousands of white christmas lights - beautiful.
There's also a spa with heated pool, sauna, jacuzzi, small gym and treatment areas. The treatments were very well priced for a hotel of this standard.
It's only 30 minutes to the coast and surrounded by stunning countryside: bleak yet beautiful in winter, and quintessential English countryside in summer (this is Hardy's England). There's plenty to do in the area and it's a foodie haven (Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall lives nearby) and so there are lots of gorgeous restaurants and pubs to visit too.
Highly recommended

We found the hotel very easily and went into the reception which is just like arriving at someones country house. The check in was quick and we were both greeted by name and shown up to our room which was in the coach house.

The room itself was lovely, the decor was classic and there was a large kingsize bed with very soft linen and a large bathroom. The room itself has free wifi which was great. There was a large sofa, dressing table, lots of wardrobe space and a table with two chairs. The only minor thing about the room was the location of the TV, which was off in one corner because the room had two windows. it would have been better to have it on a stand or a slightly larger TV.

Every morning and evening the housekeeping staff would come to refresh or turn down the room, even on the final morning we were checking out we came back to find the beds had been made. In the morning, tea/coffee and biscuits were delivered along with a newspaper which was all complementary. We had breakfast in bed one morning which was lovely and on the second morning down in the conservatory which was great too with views over the grounds.

We had dinner in the restaurant both nights which was a lovely experience. We had a glass of champagne in the drawing room which had wood fires and we had some nibbles (a little platter with olives, nuts and crisps) and then after being given our menus we were brought out some dishes from the chef. They then moved us through into the dining room for dinner and back to the drawing room afterward for tea/coffee and petit fours.

The dinner itself was very nice on both nights, we had the degustation menu the first night and à la carte the second. Both were very nicely presented and tasted delicious. The only complaint would be from the wine; we asked the sommelier for help in choosing a bottle of white. She asked us how much we were looking to spend and we said about £40. She said that instead of a bottle she'd do us some glasses of wine each to match the starters and the main course. The wines we had were nice but nothing special. We were quite shocked at check-out that we'd been charged £80 each night, which considering we didn't have more than a bottle between us was rather steep.

One afternoon we had a walk around the gardens which were pleasant and also went for a swim. The pool in in a conservatory looking out over the vegetable gardens which is very pleasant both during the day and at night when you can see the moon above you. The pool was a nice temperature although the jacuzzi was a touch on the cold side. The changing rooms were clean and very nice, as were the showers.

We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay at summer lodge. The thing that really makes it is the impeccable service, nothing was too much trouble. We would not hesitate to return.
