Been here many times since it was taken over by the current owners. Always something different to try and always hits the mark, whether it is breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. I have never been disappointed. The gardens are splendid and always give me inspiration. Despite a previous comment about a gypsy lady and a tent, please do not be put off by this. The lady in question is neither a gypsy nor does she sit in a tent. She is very knowledgable about all her plants and works very hard to keep this wonderful array of plants and ornaments going all year round.

The Sunday lunch is just like a home cooked roast. Nice thick slices of beef, good selection of vegetables too. Excellent value for money.

Have been here several times since moving to Coggeshall.

Lovely for a light snack or a big breakfast.

I also understand that their Sunday Roasts are a thing of beauty but you need to book ahead (for Sunday lunch) as seating is limited.

Coggeshall is a large village filled with characterful old buildings. We popped into the Clocktower Tea Rooms in the centre of the village at about 11.15 one sunny morning.
"Do you want breakfast?" were the first words to greet us from the young lady behind the battered old counter. A display cabinet on the counter was empty.
"Are you serving coffee?", we asked. Yes - so we ordered two coffees and two toasted tea cakes. The rooms (there are two) are low-beamed. The walls are timber framed and unadorned plaster save for a niche containing assorted china figurines. We sat on old Windsor chairs at old kitchen tables, covered with bright check cotton tablecloths. The two rooms could seat about 30 but there were only 6 or 7 people when we were there.
The coffee, which was very good, arrived after about 10 minutes. The tea cakes, also very nice, arrived a couple of minutes later, but served by one of the other customers.
Outside there is a long thin garden; on one side tables and chairs, on the other ranks of colourful plants. After our refreshements we went outside. The plants were all priced. We wandered to the end of the garden and there was a small corner with a tent. Inside the tent was a gypsy lady who sold the plants.
We didn't stay to lunch although the menu looked very tasty with tempting quiches and savoury tarts.

Ideal for a Saturday leisurely lunch. All food is freshly prepared to order with exception for the wonderful cakes obviously they were made earlier .

You must appreciate that you could wait for 40 mins from point ordering but it's worth the wait, if you are in a hurry try somewhere else.

As a family we choose the bacon baguette which comes with lovely chips, also tried were the beautiful fluffy omelette again with chips. I choose the smoked salmon salad (no chips) which came with a very good selections mixed leaves cherry tomatoes sliced red pepper and cucumbers and with my personal favourite grapes. The salmon was perfect, I do not know if it was smoked locally it did not taste like supermarket pre-packed plastic.

With it's cheery staff and checked table clothes, it is perfect old fashioned comfort and charm. Just wished I lived nearer to visit more often.
