I booked a one night stay here on 22nd December as a surprise birthday present for my partner. We came here for a meal on father's day and were very impressed, we kept saying we should visit again so I thought it was the ideal place to book a night away. Prices were very reasonable which was a big plus point.
I emailed a few days after booking to confirm if breakfast was included, to book a table for the evening and to request a bottle of champagne on our arrival. After a week with no reply I emailed again, still no reply, so I called the hotel and spoke to a lady, she confirmed that she had not received an email, she said that she would ensure that a bottle of champagne would be in the room, a table would be reserved and she also confirmed that breakfast was included.
On our arrival, there was no champagne, receptionist knew nothing about it, she did, however, bring one up to the room straight away, but the surprise had been spoilt by then!
The room was nice, massive bed and plenty of room, a little tired in places but I wasn't bothered by that, cleanliness however was a different issue, the bed side tables were stained from previous occupants, and lots of stains on chest of drawers, bathroom was a good size but bath surround was filthy, which was a shame as it was a nice room.
We had the tapas for an evening meal which was lovely, no complaints regarding the food apart from not having any duck left, but the alternative was fine.
They seemed quite short staffed and we got the impression that the bar maid was also running the reception, at one point we waited over 10 minutes to be served at the bar. The waiter was a larger than life Italian, with a contagious smile and had us in stitches, shame he finished early as he was a great character.
The biggest disappointment was the fact that last orders was called at 9:50!! The staff said that we could order drinks and sit at the bar, but no further drinks will be sold after 9:50!
We found a bar across the road that was open until 11pm so the night wasn't completely ruined.

We booked this hotel for its position, which was ideal, the staff member, made us welcome, but was clearly on her own, running the reception, bar, and resturant. The room was just, but only just adequate, as a superior with an aged single wardrobe and barely functioning shower head, with most of the secondary glazing missing. It was dark with poor lighting and the four poster bed a bit creaky, but it had a certain charm..just needs some upgrades..

Stayed just for one night and there were no issues during the stay. It is a lovely old building with car parking at the rear. The decor maybe needed a bit of updating, but everything was clean and tidy.

The bedroom I had was on the first floor and was spacious and clean. Bathroom could do with modernising but once again it was fit for purpose. Bed was comfy and the heating was on, so all good.

I ate in the bar downstairs and the food and service was great. The girl behind the bar was working wonders as she was on her own until 6pm.

Breakfast was fine too. It's not the Ritz but it fine for a day or two as a base, would stay again if in the area.

Stopped for a long weekend in November. Booked superior level room with en-suite. The decoration was tired, the single glazed window was suffering from condensation damage, and the bathroom needed some maintenance, but everything was clean and in place. That evening had fish and chips in pub restaurant and was tasty and good value. Next morning breakfast was disappointing with a nearly burnt omelette for my wife, and overcooked poached eggs for me. I think it was suffering from not having enough staff on duty, because on the following day there were more staff and the breakfast was fine. The hotel building is old and charming, but is in need of interior redecoration and tlc

we booked online through the old english website. This said a restaurant table reservation was included. When we arrived we were told that the restaurant was closed to guests as it had been booked for a private function, and to expect a bit of noise until midnight. Food would be available in the bar...this it was. The food offering was disappointing, although the wine was good value.

The room itself was comfortable and mostly very clean. The staff were friendly and service was fine. All in all, this was an o.k. stay but that's all. Its convenient for local towns and is an alright base for a couple of nights. Do not over expect.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not above the restaurant/function room and pay a bit more for a superior room

I do apologise for the mix up when booking, our bar and restaurant area are the same service just in different rooms, sometime the restaurant is booked out for larger functions due to its size. Thank you for taking the time to review.
