We popped in for lunch now they have reopened. The pub has been very nicely decorated an open plan style with lovely stone floors. The menu is your standard pub fayre and we had the venison pie and the onion tart. Both were tasty, well cooked and exceptional value for money.

We will definitely return

Stayed here for one night as visiting friends in the area. Our room was on the ground flood facing the car park, but this wasn't a problem. The room was incredibly clean and tidy and as soon as we needed something, it was offered to us.

Breakfast is included in the price - traditional English but I'm sure if you require anything different, you would get it.

Very cute place situated in an idyllic area.

Dropped in yesterday to look at the refurbishment and meet the new owners as we were very fond of the Buck's head when Maggie and Martin managed it. We feel that the pub is now soulless, cold and unwelcoming. Nicki the landlady was chatty and friendly; the landlord said nothing and appeared unfriendly.
The wine list was poor; French or Chilean wine only!!! We ordered a fish platter to share and the chef didn't notice that the potted shrimp served in little jars was off !!!! It smelt of rotten fish. We complained to the landlady who took the jars to the kitchen and said nothing; it was the young barmaid who apologised and informed us that the kitchen was preparing a new batch. A table of four had also ordered the fish platter and the barmaid gave them some feeble explanation and promptly remove the potted shrimp from their table.
We had to ask for a slice of lemon to go with our fish; we didn't like the idea of having the salt and pepper on the table in small open dishes for the diners to use their fingers to sprinkle it on their food. Food hygiene is certainly out as it poses environmental health risks!!!!
Service was slow; people were queuing up at the bar to buy drinks and settle their bills.
Overall not a good experience; would we go there again? Jury is out..............

FAULTLESS family run' this beautiful historic pub/hotel with its stunning scenery . A rural delight for all to enjoy. some folk simply have to moan about some petty little things. its in their nature. The energy used to complain would be better harnessd opening their eyes and talking the wounders of this beautiful village pub and eatery. the Bloomfield family are hard working and have many
years experience in hospitality and believe me they are the best. people should cut them some slack as it takes time to get everything right and they will
every time you visit them please try to remember there are people like me that love then dearly but can't be with them anymore. that's painful but never will you receive anything but the best from them. n

Popped in for a pint to see the refurbishment. Friendly staff/managers. Interior is an improvement, but rather bland. I guess they chose 'Pub look number X' and it just turned up in a box. Floor laid in the dark. Lovely location, but spoilt by extremely uncomfortable child-size garden furniture. No joke, it's far too small for anyone over 5ft tall. Beer as good as almost anywhere else, food okay. This could be a really great pub.

Thank you for taking the time to review us after we have just taken over.

The pub was designed before we came on board, equally the furniture was part of the purchase. I am sorry you found the seating uncomfortable, being only 5 foot myself, I guess I hadn't really noticed!

We get some fantastic feedback over the facelift of the pub, in particular, the floor. We have found it really durable, cant say if it was laid in the dark, perhaps just the rustic effect?

We pride ourselves on good beer, good food, and everyone is welcome. Please come back again soon.

I stayed here with two friends as accommodation after day one of the South Downs Way. This pub has reopened after flooding and a complete ground floor refurbishment (to a very high standard). The new owners were very welcoming with clean rooms, a powerful shower, bath, great comfy bedding and fluffy pillows. Bathroom was missing a large mirror (my only, minor picky issue). A cool beer (it was hot when we walked day one) or two and a great, tasty, rare steak later I was refreshed and ready for day two. The cooked breakfast the next morning was great. The owners are putting everything into this venture - visit and support them.

Room Tip: We had a downstairs room which had been fully refurbished about 3 months ago. The room was quiet dur...

Too modern inside for the oldy, worldy area. Food was nice, but not a very good starter menu.
Land lady very friendly, but not once did a member of staff during our meal ask if everything was ok. Bit disappointed as we had visited this place several times in the past with its previous land lords and had always had a good experience
