“Friday night delight!”
Reviewed 1 September 2014

We went for a meal on the spur of the moment last Friday and what a lovely surprise. Firstly it's been so long since we've been that we hadn't realised it had changed hands (last October), although we realised straight away something was different.

The staff were really friendly and welcoming and also very knowledgeable about the wines. The tall young lady told us about the wine tasting course they had been on so they knew what they were talking about. The fire was lit and the atmosphere was really lovely with the candles and storm latterns. What a difference this makes to a feel of a place.

My husband ordered creamy garlic mushrooms and cheese and onion pie and I had the steak and ale pie. My meal was absolutely delicious and heaven to get a jug of gravy (just need a spoon so as not to waste any!). My husbands meal was really nice but, and this is purely a personal preference, he found the mushrooms too rich because it had real cream. Added to a very rich cheese and onion pie he really felt he'd overindulged. I'm sure lots of people would have loved the cream but maybe an option to have it with crème fraiche for those conscious of their waist lines!

Only other thing if you want perfection - maybe the chips could just do with a tad longer to cook so they have a bit of a golden glow and also perhaps have chunky chips.

Oh and GREAT beer too! We'll definitely be going back regularly.

“Lovely meals with good service”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

This is a good pub with excellent food, real ale and very good service. The meals were large, home-made, well cooked and beautifully presented. This pub is very good value for money and I heartily recommend it

“Lovely Traditional Pub - Homely & Friendly Atmosphere”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

We have been to this pub before for a drink at Christmas and really liked the friendly reception we received and the warm & homely decor with the open fires. Upon returning on the 3rd August for a meal with some friends, we were again met with a friendly reception and seated immediately at our reserved table. Our table was in a nice central location of the bar and the fire (which wasn't on this time thankfully due to the weather!), all of the tables had candles lit and were set up nicely - no dirty cutlery in this pub!
We ordered a rump steak, a burger, a roast dinner and the fish pie. The pub was very busy being a Saturday evening, but all of our meals were recieved within 30 minutes and were all hot and good sized portions and all of us enjoyed our meals. If it wasn't for my birthday I wouldn't have gone for a dessert, but was tempted by the Hot chocolate fudge sundae, which turned out to be huge!
Can not recommend highly enough! We found this to be a lovely place with traditional home cooked food of a high standard, that you would expect from a pub. Hot, cooked properly - the rump was cooked exactly as requested (rarer side of medium - for us to be awkward!) and no-one needed to send anything back and all said our meals were delicious.
The staff were all very helpful and kept checking on us and making sure we were happy and had what we needed.
The toilets were very clean and all facilities were kept on top of.
There is a very nice beer garden with hanging baskets and a smoking shelter at the rear of the pub, the size of which was quite a surprise as it doesn't look like it would be so large from the road.
We will definitely be returning with more friends in the future!
