We went for a meal on the spur of the moment last Friday and what a lovely surprise. Firstly it's been so long since we've been that we hadn't realised it had changed hands (last October), although we realised straight away something was different.
The staff were really friendly and welcoming and also very knowledgeable about the wines. The tall young lady told us about the wine tasting course they had been on so they knew what they were talking about. The fire was lit and the atmosphere was really lovely with the candles and storm latterns. What a difference this makes to a feel of a place.
My husband ordered creamy garlic mushrooms and cheese and onion pie and I had the steak and ale pie. My meal was absolutely delicious and heaven to get a jug of gravy (just need a spoon so as not to waste any!). My husbands meal was really nice but, and this is purely a personal preference, he found the mushrooms too rich because it had real cream. Added to a very rich cheese and onion pie he really felt he'd overindulged. I'm sure lots of people would have loved the cream but maybe an option to have it with crème fraiche for those conscious of their waist lines!
Only other thing if you want perfection - maybe the chips could just do with a tad longer to cook so they have a bit of a golden glow and also perhaps have chunky chips.
Oh and GREAT beer too! We'll definitely be going back regularly.
