We finally tried the Green Chimney for lunch after many recommendations and we were not disappointed. The decor is imaginative and original, the atmosphere lively and the staff attentive, even though it was clearly quite busy when we went. All ingredients are sourced locally where possible, we are told, and all the burgers home-made.
We had not realised till we were served that meals include a drink daytime on weekdays so our two burgers, a beer - Moorhouse's Blonde Witch from down the M65 in Burnley - and a large red wine were only a few quid more than the 'Spoons up the street.
Helpings were not massive but ample and then you don't go to such a place expecting a belly-buster (However if you do, I'm told the Chimney Challenge lives up to its name and has defeated a few).
I am genuinely surprised at such a wide variety of verdicts from other TA reviewers but I will keep an open mind and I promise to write again if any of their critiques prove valid.
