“A Proper Wensleydale Inn”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

Stopped for lunch & joined by cyclists doing the nearby Tour de France Yorkshire stage(s).
Five servings of really good fish & chips - generous portions, freshly & carefully cooked. Washed down with hand drawn beers.
Sat outside on the front but interior was also inviting.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Excellent visit to a proper Wensleydale Inn!

overall a pleasant stay in a nice country inn - decor a little dated & bathroom facilities needed patience but otherwise fine -value for money ok, but not as good as other hotels in the area - proximity to Aysgarth & Hardraw Falls must be an advantage

The pub/hotel is pleasingly old and modern at the same time. Stayed in a room in the newer part of the establishment, we were warm, comfortable and it was quiet and restful. The Wheatsheaf is well situated for sight seeing and great walking country.
The breakfast was an excellent start to the day setting us up well for the rest of the day.
Sampled the evening menu and enjoyed it so much we did the same the following evening. Can also recommend the Black Sheep beer from a Wensleydale Brewery.
Very comfortable beds, medium firm.

Walking from Aysgarth Falls up to Castle Bolton, on the return journey we happened upon this delightful pub at just the right time for lunch. Allowing the dog in was great, especially as thee was a roaring fire.
Friendly service, good beer (wish I could have stayed for more) and a reasonable lunch. This was the perfect stop off point on our circular walk.

My daughter and son-in-law bought us a two night coupon deal for The Wheatsheaf as a Christmas gift. I am ashamed to say that with around 20 years of visiting/staying experiences in and around Hawes, we had never discovered this location and the wonderful Wheatsheaf. We will rectify this by making many more visits. We were warned in advance that the only room available was a very small double. It was very small, but had everything needed. The welcome was warm, the staff were great and nothing was too much trouble for owners/staff. We dined on our first night and the food was typically good, pub food. Plenty of it and nicely cooked - with a lovely curry to make my husband's night! The owners couldn't guarantee the weather, but on a very wet and windy afternoon, ensured that the comfortable guests' sitting room had a blazing fire in the log burner. So we curled up in armchairs with books (provided) and had a lovely relaxing afternoon. The coffee and brandy went down very well!!! We will most definitely return and can highly recommend The Wheatsheaf. We send our sincere thanks to the owners.

Room Tip: We were in Room 3 which is a very small double - but you will be told about this on booking - and it...
