We decided to take a break away for a few days as it will be the only holiday we get before a big house move. We were not disappointed by The Black Swan.

Great friendly welcome by staff, nothing was too much trouble at any time, beautiful comfy room overlooking gardens, real ale, great breakfast, etc. etc.

Fabulous meal on Tuesday night in the Gallery (we ate out the other nights). Overall a wonderful stop in a great town.

THE BLACK SWAN IN THE MARKET TOWN OF HELMSLEY IS A REAL GEM.I have been visiting the hotel for over 20 years through various owners and now sister hotel to the Feversham Arms and Spa -also in Helmsley- it doesn't disappoint
The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are spacious and well appointed. The hotel is an old coaching inn and has a lot of character.. The Gallery restaurant is excellent - chef Paul Peters is imaginative and produces excellent menus from 10 and 6 course tasting menus to daily market menu. there is also an award winning Tea Room serving fabulous patisserie, afternoon tea and lunches.
Helmsley is a lovely base to explore the North Yorkshire Moors and there are lots of places to visit whin easy reach - also great walking on the doorstep.

Room Tip: All rooms are beautifully appointed but maybe rooms on the side over looking the garden

Stopped at the Black Swan for lunch, a good selection of food prepared fresh each day. We used the bar for drinks with friendly staff and an enjoyable lunch 'al fresco'. Highly recommended but be warned it can be pricey for the unwary. That said you get what you pleasant surroundings and excellent service. Definitely worth a visit.

Visited for the husbands Birthday. Had opted for a package which included champagne chocolates and Strawberries- champagne was waiting in our room when we arrived along with the 4 ?? Strawberries and I think 4 chocolates. My friends were on the same package though for whatever reason nothing had been put in their room- but a quick visit to reception sorted that out-
We sad having a drink at the front of the hotel in the glorious sunshine people watching and the time just flew by.
Our package included a tasting menu of various delights and the food we had was tasty and well presented . Service in the restaurant was efficient if a little serious but no complaints.
A wedding reception was being held whilst we were there which meant the beautiful rear garden was out of bounds to non wedding guests which is not ideal.
We had fortunately had the foresight to order fans from the reception as the rooms were red hot despite having the windows open
The hotel is so deceptive it's huge and from the roadside it's difficult to tell. It's a lovely old building.
We slept really well and didn't hear the nearby church chimes until 8am.
Breakfast was yummy with a good choice available.
As it was my husband s Birthday I'd arranged with the hotel for a cake and that was fabulous when it was presented.
All in all a very enjoyable stay. Helmsley itself is Definately worth a visit

1st anniversary , we decided to try the black swan after passing it so many times..... Can't recommend highly enough , check in smooth & efficient everything u want. Sitting out side (weather was boiling) table service nice , friendly and helpful. Bar area inside, immaculate with helpful bar staff and a pleasant atmosphere. We had a table in the restaurant @ 830pm ..... We were given time to choose our meal while in the bar then escorted to our perfectly presented table .we picked meals from the 3 course £40 a head menu .... Amazing ....food was beautiful, lamb with vintage tomatoes was out if this world! Our waiter (South African gentleman i believe) was attentive, helpful, friendly and really made our evening, thank you . Room had a view over the square...nice , room was as expected for an old hotel. Breakfast, again very nice (same waiter)...... Cannot recommend highly enough, hope to return soon!!!!!!

Myself and husband have stay in many hotels but we must say The black swan was something else.

What an experience we had from the moment we arrived to the second we left.
Really was 5* service!
We came for a small celebration for my partners birthday.
The hotel itself is beautiful the gardens where also stunning!

* Great staff
* Fab location
* Beautiful rooms

Need we say more.....

But what stood out for us was the food and the quality of service. We where looked after by a young man called Grant throughout the evening.

We can honestly say what a funny and charming young man he was. He made us feel so welcome and relaxed. And nothing was ever to much trouble for him he really made are stay that little bit better

To say the least we will be back again!!!
