Being wheat, vinegar and Malt extract intolerant ,it is not easy to eat out. What a Gem of a place. Natalie fried the best wheat free battered fish I have ever had. Just perfect and they also have non brewed condiment. We went back three days later to the restaurant . Brilliant fish and chips and wonderful staff.

Hi and delighted you enjoyed your visit so much, you came back again!!!
Gluten free is a key part of our offering in both restaurants and is available everyday.
Quality food, at value for money prices, all served with friendly service - that is what we aim to deliver.
Thanks again.
Tony

We went to try the gluten-free cooking, on fish and chips a rare treat in rural North Yorkshire. The batter was great, but the fish was a lovely 8 ounce cut, supported by chips and mushy peas. The staff came out with the appropriate vinegar. After the fish we could have a sweet from a lovely display of cakes, and, to my surprise, one was gluten-free.

We were delighted.

Hello and thanks for the review,
You're right gluten free fish n chips is rare, but not at Scotts.
We serve proper GF battered fish n chips all day everyday in both restaurants.
The fish is the highest quality, sold by wet weight with a regular being 8oz.
Gluten Free is increasingly in demand and we now have GF vinegar and desserts.
Spread the word and come back soon.
Thanks
Tony

Scott's serve excellent quality fish and chips, served in clean, pleasant surroundings by friendly staff. The small portion fish with all the trimmings was ample, and very good value for money. What's not to like?!

Hi Pamela,
Thanks for the review.
Sounds like you had the Cap'n Scotts special, 5 oz fish, chips, and mushy peas - great value, but more than enough on the plate.
Cooked to order and served with big smiley service.
Regards
Tony

Just had a "moby dick" sized portion for an early evening dinner--we could tell we were back in Yorkshire it was an amazingly good portion of battered cod.
We live in Devon and have a few good chippies nearby but this is the best we have had.

Hi and thanks for the great comments,
You must have been hungry with the Moby Dick, some 12 - 14 oz of prime fish.
Cooked to order in bed dripping, thin crisp batter - perfect.
Maybe we should open in Devon?

Tony

We visited for late lunch on a Sunday and expected the restaurant to be packed. We were pleasantly surprised, as there were only two other tables occupied. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. When our fish arrived (very quickly considering fried to order) we both thought they would be all batter and no fish, due to the size of them. We couldn't have been more wrong! Pure white, meaty & tasty fish in a crisp, fresh batter. Chips were crisp & nicely cooked too. Depends what you want here, as not an upmarket environment but you can't beat fish & chips when they're cooked to perfection like these & served with a friendly smile.

Hello and thanks for the review,
The team were all very pleased you enjoyed your visit.
The fish is prime Icelandic, with the real difference being we buy large fillets, 16 - 32oz and cut to size on site. This ensures you get thick flaky fish and not thin small fillets.
The batter is then thin and crispy to finish it off. Proper Yorkshire fish n chips.
Spread the word .
Thanks again
Tony
