With 80 covers there is plenty of room, coach parties welcome. We aim to provide the best fish and chips available from sustainable and local sources at a value price. Ate here twice this weekend. Once using the take away and once in the resturant. Takeaway staff extremely friendly. No trouble cooking the gluten free fish and chips. Make sure your hungry cause there is plenty. Cooked to perfection. Crystal served us that night. We were so impressed we came for tea the next day. It isn't often I can find a fish shop that does gluten free fish and chips.
Used the resturant the second time as the steam fair was in town and the place was heaving. Good service, friendly staff. Food wasn't as plentiful as the night before which was a bit of a disappointment. Quality was first class. Fresh, clean and no grease . Definitely worth a vist. Well done

So today we visited Helmsley and decided to visit Scotts fish shop and was really looking forward to some good fish and chips.

So they cleared a table for us and the 4 of us sat down looked at the menu awaiting service... When all of a sudden the young man arrives and say's "Go on Then" for our order we all looked at each other and giggled thinking nice customer service...... We order the food and 4 drinks including 2 pints of lager shandy and 1/2 of lager shandy..... 20 minutes pass when one of us decided to go and see where the drinks are only to be told we dont do pints of shandy ?????? So what the plan was not to tell us ? Ask us what other drinks we would like ????? NO NOT AT ALL

So we gladly left very disapppointed to the point we will not even be using our regular fish and chips shop near Appleton Roebuck yes you guesssed it Scotts!

Not having the drinks is not a problem its not telling us and keeping us waiting 20 minutes until we ask....

I m pretty sure that there is one on a motorway between York and Leeds somewhere next to McDonalds... My boyfriend and I were travelling far and needed something to eat, it was around 9:30ish pm now on a sunday and most cafes were shut, we didn't have time to go to restaurant and we pretty much accepted that we may have to get a greasy pizza or a curry when we came across this fish n chip place on motorway. I was very surprised to see that it was still open and was more surprised to see that it looks nice and modern rather than old lady ish like some fish n chip places. Food was nice enough, staff were very friendly and they were open till late and it wasn't expensive, I enjoyed it.

Thank Amy W

Hi Amy,
Thanks for the review and sounds like you were in York not Helmsley, but we have the same high quality at both restaurants. With takeaways open half hour later than restaurant. Opening hours on our web site.

A snap decision to have a fish and chip lunch turned out to be one of my better ideas choosing this restaurant sealed the deal. Very friendly staff who were attentive and keen to please serving well cooked fish and chips for six people at a reasonable price, I'm sure the takeaway side is also a good bet too (i'll be back to check)

Hello and thanks for the review,
Great idea for Sunday lunch, who needs roast beef and yorkshire pudding, when you can have proper Yorkshire fish n chips, with Yorkshire caviar ( home made mushy peas).
High quality, value for money and great service - that is what we do, and delighted you experienced it all.
Spread the word and come back soon.
Regards
Tony

After a lovely afternoon in Helmsley, myself and some friends saw this fish and chip shop, and wanted to sit inside. The weather was beautiful but it had just started raining. We went into the cafe which was dead anyways, and sat down thinking we were going to be paying around £7/8 for a sit down meal of fish n chips. We received the menu to be horrified at the prices of the fish n chips. £10.50 for Cod chips and mushy peas, and it was £13.50 for haddock, chips and mushy peas. Extortionate prices!!! We then wanted some bread - £1.20 for one slice of STALE bread.
Drinks were also extortionate, charging just under £2 for a can of coca cola. When the food arrived, the one slice of bread was stale, the curry sauce that we got instead of mushy peas was gooey and thick - the chips and the fish tasted lovely, however, and the meal was well presented. But the overall experience was not good, the waitress shouted when taking our order and the whole atmosphere of the cafe was drab.
What a let down for such a lovely place. I would not visit again.

Hello and thanks for the review,
Not sure what to make of your comments.
Our menus are displayed outside with prices and clearly you could see all prices when ordering, so not sure why you are complaining about the prices. If you were to visit Whitby, you would pay at least a couple of pound more for restaurant fish n chips.
We do have a takeaway with takeaway prices.
The service and quality you describe, is simply not acceptable nor believable. Our service and quality is very high, as can be seen by the many reviews on here,
You seem to have eaten all the food and did not complain on the day, so again not sure what the issue is.
If there was an issue you should have spoken to the manager at the time and we would have resolved any issues, no quibble. Writing such negative reviews on here serve no purpose, other than putting the business and jobs at risk!!!!
Regards
Tony
