“Feathers on a postcard”
Reviewed 31 July 2013

Spent a super weekend here. The Feathers was suggested to me by a friend who told me that this was the place to stay... and he wasn't wrong.
Extremely friendly day and bar staff made me very welcome and to cap it off there was a great english breakfast after a peaceful nights sleep. The Black Sheep served in the bar isn't bad either!
The Feathers is situated on the square of a postcard village which is dotted with flower baskets in a beautiful part of Yorkshire. Don't doubt that i'll be going back

We are checking out tomorrow after 3 nights in this lovely hotel. The staff are really nice and very helpful. Room we were in was in the annex just at back of hotel and was very clean and spacious. We stayed here to goto flamingo land and it was ideal. 20 minute drive and you're there. Food was delicious too. Would recommend to friends and certainly come back.

We stayed over at this hotel and it was lovely! Had a nice room overlooking the market square and for £70 it was good value. Plenty of welcome touches such as tea/coffee making facilities, plus water, biscuits and a few toiletries too. I wondered if it would be noisy as the room was over the bars, but by ten thirty everything was calm! We had a lovely wander around the town and up to the Castle - such a pretty town! We also decided to have dinner at the hotel and I had the best seafood salad in ages!! The staff were all very friendly too.

Room Tip: Interesting to ask for a Market square view, but if you like peace and quiet ask for one at the back...

We had just one night here on a great Sunday night tariff of £70 for B&B. Having asked specifically for a room with a view over the market place that is exactly what we got. The room was comfortable and clean with all the facilities that I would expect but to be honest I wouldn't want to pay £120 that is charged on a Saturday. The towels were large, white and fluffy with complimentary toiletries and the bed very comfortable with spotless white linen. I'm not bothered about switching the tv on when away but as Andy Murray was playing the Wimbledon final that afternoon we did for the last bit of the match. It was wall mounted and flat screen but quite small so if that is important to you, bear it in mind. The market place was a hive of activity on the Sunday afternoon with bikers using it as a meeting point on a glorious Sunday afternoon. This was interesting and reminded me of Matlock Bath but on a smaller scale. We chose to have dinner elsewhere but ate breakfast here. There was a good choice of cereal, yogurts and a delicious fresh fruit salad to help ourselves to. Toast was also a DIY event but could be served at the table if you asked. There was a good selection of cooked breakfast and we both had the full Yorkshire. This was quite good and not at all greasy but a slight criticism would be that the service was a little lacking. We were not offered sauces, cereal bowls were not removed before cooked breakfast was brought to table and our friendly waitress was only around to take orders, bring food and clear vacated tables. Overall very good value for money and a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a good view of the the small town but can be noisy. The back of the hotel wa...

Enjoyed our stay very much. The Feathers is located right in the town square which is in walking distance to the Helmsley Castle and Duncombe Park, and if you so choose there is a walking path from Helmsley to the Rievaulx Abbey. We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel, both of which were very tasty. The staff were both friendly and accommodating, we were upgraded from room 2 above the pub to a quiet room without even asking. Parking for guests is behind the hotel, but there are very few spaces available. There is plenty of parking in front of the hotel, although it is pay and display parking after 9 am.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 2 which is right above a very busy pub.

Satyed for one night, unfortunately, evening meal was excellent, great selection and good wines.
Room looked over square, so we watched Helmsley wake up, clean confortable room, with everything you could wish for.
'Yorkshire Breakfast', brilliant, kept me going till the evening.

We had a superior double which was just perfect for us & our baby son. The staff were exceptionally friendly & entertained our son. The room was immaculate, comfy & very tastefully decorated. Parking is tight, but to be expected in such a small village. We stayed here for a wedding at Duncombe Park & so only experienced the breakfast, which was tasty & large. We wished we'd booked for an extra night but sadly they were fully booked. Quite pricey but so are the other hotels in the area.
