Description: The Black Swan Tearoom, located in the picturesque market town of Helmsley in the North York Moors, is both charming and traditional, and offers a fabulous quintessentially English Afternoon Tea experience which even the connoisseurs of Afternoon Tea wouldn't be able to fault. In addition to the traditional Afternoon Tea which changes seasonally making best use of the fresh, local produce available, a wide selection of brasserie style dishes are also served making the Tearoom the ideal place to meet up for lunch or simply just a cup of tea and a chat.

Just visited the Black Swan for my partners birthday. We had a lovely stay in a beautiful room with a huge bed. We stayed with dinner included and we both agreed it was one of the most amazing dining experiences. We had the 3 course dinner menu, its a new menu, recently changed and so we assume that it may undergo 'tweaking' as time passes but we could not find a single issue with it. The choice was broad, the tastes were amazing, the service was exceptional. Loved the fact that there was no salt and pepper to be seen! Would highly recommend the Black Swan to both stay and eat and don't be put off by some comments regarding high brow clientèle, the staff didn't blink when we walked in caked in mud from our walk and saturated! They have a healthy variety of gin too which was a great bonus for us.
Must make a special mention too about the girl singer / guitarist in the bar, didn't catch her name, she is from Stockton. An absolutely perfect accompaniment to a perfect stay.

My husband and I decided to have a mid week break and chose the Black Swan at Helmsley. We arrived mid afternoon, staff were beyond helpful and polite and showed us to our immaculate room. We ate in the restaurant at 7pm and were the first to sample their new change of menu ....... it was simply superb!! the best food I have ever had as my husband described it "a taste sensation" fabulous and we will be back.

If you have a dog, you know how hard it is to find somewhere to eat a decent meal. Look no further than The Black Swan. We have a very very large dog, and were welcomed with open arms to sit and eat in either the lounge or the bar area. The staff were brilliant, they made a real fuss of both us and the dog - who is used to this and took it all in his stride! We ate from the bar menu, the rib-eye sandwich was heavenly, and don't get me started on the cakes..... We will return each and every time we are in the area, attitudes like this from hotels to towards dog owners are almost non existent. Well done to The Black Swan.

The Swan is a nice place but we prefer the Feversham Arms which is a little less "starched table cloths". It's a sister hotel to the Feversham but it sems to cater for an older clientele - it even had a World War Two fighter pilot in the bar when we visited. If blazers and brogues is your thing, The Swan is for you.
