Description: One of North Yorkshire’s most iconic bar and restaurant destinations......The Friars Head is a beautiful venue in a truly stunning location. Positioned amongst the rolling countryside of lower Wensleydale but close to Bedale and Leyburn, it’s an ideal setting for casual gatherings with friends and family, wedding breakfasts and christening banquets, shooting parties and business meetings. The Friars Head is a confident and striking blend of traditional and modern design, that celebrates great quality food. What makes The Friars Head so special is the different and distinct interior themes and creative menus, developed to provide guests with their choice of a relaxed or formal experience.

After spending the day touring the Dales we stopped here for dinner as it had been recommended by our hosts. Menu was promising, unfortunately the food when delivered was disappointing. Pigeon stuffed with haggis was over cooked to the point of dry and the rowan jus was too sweet and overpowering. Tuna nicoise was ok but hard to mess up really. We chose not to have desert and with water and one pint of beer the price was £34.

We were staying in Patrick Brompton and had been recommended to Friars Head. We are so pleased we went, in fact during our week stay we ate there on two occasions. The food was beautiful, a very relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. The staff are very attentive and even recognised us on our second visit. Locals speak very highly of Friars and I can see why

First impressions were not good....stained, dirty seats covered in food debris. Starter of twice baked soufflé was a gelatinous mound in an alarming shade of yellow drowning in a sea of tasteless sauce which tasted of little other than grease. Linguine pasta with mushrooms was fairly bland and boring but filling especially with the accompanying salad and veggies. You won't leave here hungry but you may not exactly enjoy the food either. It is also overpriced for what it delivers.

Initial impression good, looked cosy and inviting seemed fairly busy in the bar. The Bar staff looked a bit stressed and too busy to give full attention regarding food. no front of house so no clear direction on availability/menu etc. we flagged down a waiter to ask if we could order after the barmaid pointed to the menus. Once we were seated in the dining room I began to have some reservations. The table cloth was a little grubby with a small hole and I saw a hair on it. I thought the place could do with a bit of a spruce up. The young waiters looked generally a little untidy however were polite and did a good Job overall, the service was fine. Now the food . Not worth the money. I have to say it's the first time I have seen steak served on its own with a separate bowl of little cubed fries? No garnish. We shared the bowl of veg that came with my chicken, presentation could be better. that said The food was cooked nicely and what we had was tasty. For two mains and two beers just under £40. Personally won't return.
