a party of six attended for sunday lunch in the middle of july and found a very warm welcome.with good quility and well kept guest ales available.
all six in our party commented on the quality of our main course which consisted of
five different dishes, all served together with abundance of vegetable
our desserts were four coffees and one warm cherry dessert ,which unfortunately was,nt
up to the standard of the rest of the meal.
we then returned to the bar for another taste of real ale ,a very enjoyable experience and
we look forward to our next visit .

We were looking forward to dinner at the Three Horseshoes. We went with friends who run a B&B in Wensleydale, and they had heard good recent reports. The pub area is cozy, and the selection of real ales was reasonable--several from the Wensleydale Brewery, the Yorkshire Dales Brewery, Theakston, and Black Sheep. It was the food that disappointed. Two of our orders were fine. Those were calves' liver and beef in a red wine sauce. The other two sounded great: a pork chop covered with apple slices and melted Wensleydale cheese, and a cashew-lamb loaf with a red current sauce. Sadly, the ideas were better than the execution. The cheese was not melted and the pork chop was fatty and gristly; the red current sauce was mere red current jelly and the loaf was dry and tasteless. The fresh veg was minimal for midsummer.

Desserts were also disappointing. Two of us ordered sticky toffee pudding with custard. This was presented as three very thin slices covered with obviously tinned, artificially colored custard. One person ordered cherries with kirsch over vanilla ice cream and reported very little taste to the cherries. The happiest person was the guy who ordered a second beer.

We'd go here again for a swift pint and perhaps a very simple meal, but the execution of more complicated dishes was poor. Too bad, because the atmosphere and the location are great.

If you have ever visited the Yorkshire Dales you will know what a lovely small village Wensley is. If you have never been - it is time you did.

The pub in the heart of the village has, for one reason and another, had a very chequered history, until recently, when it was taken over by the present landlord and landlady, who have completely transformed the place into one of the best pubs in the Dales.

David and Rachel are a young, very highly trained, extremely enthusiastic, and hard working couple. They really do deserve to succeed, and there is no doubt that they will. Rachel does all the cooking, you can get a top meal or a simple snack - all are great quality and even more importantly represent excellent value.

If you are visiting the Dales, want a good meal - call into THE THREE HORSE SHOES - if you are walking in the area - here is the perfect place to have your lunch.

Even if you just fancy a drink - you can sit outside (weath permitting) - and wonder at the beauty of amazing Wensleydale (not many pubs have better views than this one)

Hope you enjoy your visit
