“Absolute Dump! Don't Bother!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2013

I stayed in the Bunk House at The Station Inn which I assumed would be very basic but clean / safe accommodation.

It was a complete wreck! It was damp and moldy with paint falling off the walls and the plaster beneath crumbling. The mattresses were old and dirty. Incredibly there was a microwave, kitchen and kettle although these were disgusting.

I very much doubt that thing has a fire safety certificate and I unplugged all appliances.

Additionally, bar staff were rude and when checking in I was ignored for about 5 minutes by a lady who I assumed was a manager / owner / supervisor fiddling with a coffee machine. I should have turned around at that point.

Although I booked for two nights, I left after just one. Don't bother staying at this dive. There's a lovely campsite in Horton, try that instead.

We arrived at The Station after a couple of disasters (namely walking 17 miles to The White Lion at Cray and finding out it had shut down the day before!) and a couple of nights 'wild camping' so we were tired, miserable and dejected, the mood soon changed once we reached The Station though! We were offered one of the Bunk Barns for the night and it was actually a life saver, had a shower and a great pub meal, the food was excellent, proper home cooked good pub grub all followed by a good night sleep! The dog was made more than welcome and the landlord and his wife were so friendly. The next day we faced a 1.5 mile walk to get back to The Dales Way and the landlord offered to take us there rather than us having to walk all the way back on the road. All in all for what we wanted it for I couldn't rate it high enough!

We stayed at the station inn after our third day walking the dales way. We had to walk a couple of miles from the path as there is little else around but we are glad we chose the Station. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed the drinks and food greatly. In fact we felt it was the best meal we'd had en route. The room was clean and recently decorated, grandly called ' the wainwright' which made us giggle. The view of the viaduct was immense - making up for the view of the backyard of the pub filled with unused fridges, plastic containers and empty beer crates. Overlook this though. We woke up to a breakfast which was the same standard as the night before. The staff we happy to fill our flask and chat about their plans for the Inn. At the moment it is an eclectic mix of bizarre 80's sports memorabilia, badly chosen 'antiques' and random tatt. However , it is ideal for a one night budget stay you will always remember!

My friend and I stayed here for one night whilst walking the Dales Way.
We arrived dripping wet to find we had been put in a double room despite having booked a twin 6 months earlier. Luckily we had walked that day with a young man who swapped his twin with us but then there was a big palaver because they couldn't find our room key which was eventually brought up to me later.
I asked if there was a drying room for our wet things but was told there was not so we had to turn the heating on and hang our wet garments about the room as best we could. One big plus though was the newish bathroom with shower which was great.
Dinner was big and filling. Not exceptional but standard pub grub.
Breakfast was decent with plenty of choice and a good veggie cooked option with a nice sausage :-D
Overall, it cost £60 and was what I expected for the price. If was clean and comfortable and close to the Dales Way.

Excellent location in the middle of nowhere and adjacent to the famous viaduct. Interesting and characterful B&B, pub and restaurant. Breakfast and evening meals were superb. Private parking was a bonus and a nice garden to sit in.
Unusual staff - More Fawlty Towers variety than the Ritz, but most entertaining when it came to squabbling time!!!!! Basil, the boss, was great fun.
Smallish room with no room for a wardrobe and nowhere to hang clothes, but didn't really matter. Ideal place for a laugh.

Room Tip: Try and get a room that overlooks the moors and the viaduct

We arrived at off the Carlisle train at 6.15 to a lovely welcome, we hadn't booked but were given the option of eating in the bar or if we wouldn't mind being quick we could eat in the dining room. Not a problem and we promised to be out for 7.15 so they could lay up for the big party due in at 7.30. The waitress was a lovely woman with a great Yorkshire sense of humour. We ordered 3 steak pie and chips, 2 chicken in bacon and 1 utterly delicious sea bass and a portion of the best ever onion rings. We also order bottles of reasonably priced wine and a jug of water with ice and lemon and lime, which was filled at least twice over without being asked. When we finished we moved into the bar for another 1.1/2hr before catching the 9.00pm train home to Skipton. A great pub with a fantastic atmospher, super food and one of the best views in Yorkshire from the gents loo window!!!!!

This hotel is in a great postition on the Moors. They seemed to be happy to pick us up from the main road (after walking over the moors from Buckden) for £5. We were very grateful for the lift as we were completely exhausted and soggy wet.

The pub is a little scruffy but hey..that is fine when you are dripping wet. Our friends had the Wainright room with four poster bed and very small bathroom. It wasn't that grand but it did have an amazing view over the Viaduct and as we were there on a Wednesday we were lucky enough to see the 5.30pm steam engine going over.

We had Room 7 The Waterbed. Initially I thought the staff were teasing us but indeed....it was a waterbed. It was hilarious! It was a bigger room, modern bathroom and also benefited from a beautiful view over the moors and Viaduct.

Suet Pudding for the boys (not often you see that on the menu these days) and Sea Bass in a wonderful butter/nut sauce for the girls. Plenty of fresh veg to go with it. Everything was delicious, hot and ample. Same for breakfast.

Not a posh place but good beer, good fun, good service. Stroll over the road in the morning to get the train to Dent Dale or keep walking on the Moors. Either way, it is a great location.

Room Tip: Try Room 7 with the waterbed! More comfortable that you expect, great views and lovely and quiet.
