I have visited this pub many times and always been happy with the food and service. I visited on this occasion with 5 friends. We arrived just before 4 and had a few drinks. We were sitting at a table for 6. At 5 o'clock the chef came over and put a reserved sign on the table and said we had to be off the table by 6 and walked off. I found another table with no reserved sign on so we moved and sat there. 2 or my friends went and ordered food at the bar while we were still deciding. The landlady and a batman them came to our table and said you will have to be off by 7 as it's reserved!! No apology or niceness about her at all.y friends promptly cancelled there food and we finished our drinks and left. I could not believe that we weren't even offered an apology or anything. I certainly won't be visiting again.

Our group stayed at the bunk barn and ate at the Station on the Friday and Saturday night. We found the food to be ok, good portions and the staff pleasant and friendly. We would go back again when in the area.

Stayed here with my brother whilst walking the Dalesway. Dismayed at long walk to get there from the path, but we could have been collected if we'd phoned ahead. Gary and Karen looking after the place for the owners couldn't have been more welcoming and attentive. The beers was kept in perfect condition (although rather expensive) and our food was great- chilli and chips in a massive Yorkshire pudding. The bar accommodation is shabby but honest- and we liked it. The bedroom accommodation was clean, but lacked a few essential touches- nowhere to put anything in the bathroom and the TV didn't work. Breakfast was huge and the sandwich in the packed lunch was fabulous. We arrived as strangers and left feeling like friends.

Have visited this pub many, many times over the years as it's at one of my favourite stops on the Settle-Carlisle Railway. Usually visited at the end of a walk. Don't often eat there but when I have the foods been fine but, like the drinks, overpriced.

Usually a decent selection of real ales that tend to be kept pretty well.

The pub is sat in a time warp really. Hasn't changed in the last 10+ years and whilst I'm all for keeping pubs 'traditional' a redec or coat of paint now and again wouldn't go amiss. The Gents toilet is pretty grim. The pool table in the bar is a joke as it simply takes up far too much room in what is already a small area.

The beer garden is currently a hopeless mess with all the seating of 3-4 years ago having fallen apart and not been repaired or replaced.

Service in the bar tends to be, shall we say, surly! There's generally little welcome and continuity of bar staff seems to be virtually nil!

At the end of a long walk it's a welcome venue, especially if you're waiting for the train, but just too expensive to spend any amount of time in.

We stayed here overnight on 26th July 2013 but seeing as it's the only accomodation round there, we had no choice! We were doing The Dales Way & had to walk 1.5miles out our way to get here.
Looks shabby inside & could do with a complete overhaul & modernising. We ordered some tea, which included a bowl of chips & they were disgusting! Only had a couple (of chips) then had to leave them.
Our TV's didn't work in our rooms so the landlord had to sort them out. After much huffing & puffing, he said they were new TV's & now he'd got them working, not to turn them off if we went out!
Shower cubicle was completely enclosed so was mouldy but on the plus side, the bed was comfy, room was clean & breakfast was nice.
We had to wait around a bit the morning after for the landlord to get up so we could pay him as it was not made clear the night before, we could have paid him then.
All in all, it could of been worse but you'd think in it's prime location, they'd make more of an effort to spruce it up & take advantage of the fact that there's nowhere else to go round there.
If the train station wasn't there or the viaduct, neither would this pub be. Good views & a good beer garden are reasons they get 3 stars.
