“Why stay anywhere else?”

My wife booked the cottage after we had failed to find decent flights for our planned trip to Rome, so I started from the viewpoint of it being a consolation prize.
How wrong could I have been?
It is clear the cottage has been built and finished to a standard, rather than down to a price. The quality of the building, decor, furniture etc., stands out from the off. The thoughtful little touches are obvious all the way through one's visit. It really did feel like being a house guest with a friend or a favoured family member, rather than being just more paying punters.
As well as being in a quiet spot, the location is perfect, lying within five minutes' walk of two of the village's pubs (the other two are more like ten to fifteen minutes and both worth visiting). The three best places for breakfast (Bernies, Inglesport and my personal winner despite having no WiFi, The Coffee Pot) are at a similar distance.
One of the finest eateries I've ever been to (La Cascada) is only a few tens of yards away and a pretty serviceable Bistro/pizza house (La Tavernetta) is only a minute or two further on.
The Masons Arms does itself no harm with its selection of food plus its range of gins!
If you want a tramp about, there are plenty of options, including the quite pleasant Waterfalls Trail.
All in all, we've had a magnificent week and we've left with our batteries fully recharged and we would recommend this cottage to anybody. My only regret is that I didn't get to try the Old Post Office or M's Spice - but there's only so much one can eat in four nights!

Set in the centre of Ingleton, with shops, takeaways, restaurants and pubs on the doorstep. As other reviewers have stated; this cottage has everything and is immaculately clean. We particularly liked the underfloor heating, making it feel so cosy and welcoming as soon as we stepped through the door. Pretty much home from home.
There is reserved parking on the street as well as a space at the back of the cottage.
The Waterfall Trail is only a few minutes walk away; the White Scar Caves and the Three Peaks are within easy reach by car.

Merlin Cottage is located on the High Street slightly above street level with a gravelled front garden area which gives it distance from passing vehicles & pedestrians. This cottage has all 2 people will need for a holiday in Ingleton, thoughtful design has made full use of the available space with all good quality fittings and appliances plus very fast & efficient heating system - useful for drying bath towels.
We particularly liked the very comfortable super-king size bed and the walk -in 'wardrobe' area at top of stairs. The secluded patio are is a lovely afternoon suntrap accessed via rear french doors.
Needless to say, the country walks, Ingleton falls and the Three Peaks are the main attractions here and the pubs and shops are only a few minutes walk away from Merlin Cottage - the Wheatsheaf is literally just across the car park and serves perfectly adequate pub grub with a good choice of draught beers and the other 2 pubs offer similar fare.
La Cascada tapas bar is less than a minutes walk away and is well worth a visit for a taste of ...errrm Spain in the heart of the dales !
Also worth a walking visit is the 17th century Marton Arms pub at Thornton-in-Lonsdale just over half a mile away.
Parking near the cottage was never a problem for us,we always found a space but it is walking country so we didnt use the car much anyway.
We would give Merlin cottage a score of 10/10 - winter or summer it is the perfect holiday bolt-hole for two and we would have no hesitation recommending to friends & relatives.

“Charming cottage”
Reviewed 21 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Delightful cottage. Bedroom up narrow stairs and bathroom and toilet downstairs, but this has not been a problem. Everything we need in the kitchen/living room, outdoor area with chairs and table and car parking space provided. Information provided re disposal of waste/recycling and tourist areas. And a 10-second walk to a very nice pub. Quiet area on a one-way street, shopping facilities: laundrette, a couple of small co-ops nearby - no butcher shop. Short drive away we have been shopping at Settle at a superb supermarket just a short distance from the town centre.
