“Absolutely Excellent”
Reviewed 30 August 2013

We dined at the Burcott Inn during August , and have nothing but praise for the whole dining experience there. It is just 2 miles outside Wells in the small village of Burcott. From the minute we walked into the bar we were made to feel welcome. A very good choice of Menu, all of the food was freshly cooked to order and served in a spacious and charming dining room by courteous andattentive staff
.
We travelled on from Wells to Lyme Regis and Dartmouth and had dinner in some of the Michelin listed establishments there, but the meal in this little restaurant was far and away the best food we had during our holiday. We will be visiting Wells again soon and will certainly return to the Burcott Inn.

“Family run pub (and it shows) with superb ale and food - where local Restaurateurs and Landladies go on their day off”
Reviewed 24 August 2013

This is in my view an ideal pub. It is a family run pub, and has been for years. As far as I can tell, Mum and Dad look after the bar, whilst the daughters are waitresses in the restaurant. The food here is local, honest and superbly well-cooked. My brother-in-law is a chef and very hard to please, and he cannot find fault with it, indeed he proclaims their beef sandwich as the best he's ever tasted. I can thoroughly concur that the meat here (whether it's Beef, Lamb, Pork, Poultry or Game) is locally-sourced, of very high quality, and tastes wonderful. There range of real ale on tap is small but very well chosen, and very well kept. For example, "Steam Shower" from RCH Brewery or "Old Moggie" from Teignworthy Brewery. We took a party of 12 (age range from 94 to 20) here, as the restaurant area is quite large for a pub, and they handled all of our needs so well, without fuss and with good humour. They could show a lot of other more expensive places the way home!. Hence those in the trade, and in those the know, come here for a treat.

“Nice pub with amazing food”
Reviewed 27 July 2013

We went to the Burcott Inn mainly for convenience as we were staying over the road. However, we were really impressed with the food, and went back the next night too!

As my partner said, "it was all about the specials", as while I'm sure the mains on the standard menu were tasty, they were all fairly standard pub staples (lasagne, scampi, beef & ale pie, sausage & mash, etc.), while the specials board had the more interesting choices.

We had a lamb and mint pie (from the specials board of course!), which had big hunks of lamb, with lovely shortcrust pastry, and veg and a gravy boat on the side. The smell of the mint was divine, and it was so nice that my partner rated it as one of his top five meals of all time! Apparently, the landlady makes all the pies herself in the pub's kitchen each day. The puddings, also handmade, were also delicious.

The service was good both nights, but much better on the first night we were there.

We had some nice, very local, cider to go with our meal. We found the bottled Orchard Pig Reveller was especially delicious. I'm just trying to find somewhere that sells it closer to home now!

Prices are fairly standard for pub grub (i.e. £7-10 for most of the mains), and well worth it. It's definitely all about the specials though!
