Stayed last night 30/11/13 We booked a stay we were told that there would be some noise from a party being held but told the music would finish at 12.00, I was impressed by their honesty but said that 12.00 wouldn't be a problem as we would be in the bar after our meal and would not be going to bed before 12.00 anyway. We checked in at 3.00 and again was informed that the party would be on however the bar had an extension until 1.00 but the music would finish at 12.00 again I said no problem we left the bar at 12.10 the music was still booming I mentioned to one of the staff that I was told that it finished at 12.00 to which he replied no it's on until 1.00 . our room was above the function room ( as are several others) the noise was unbearable until it ceased at 1.15.We met our friends for breakfast they too had not slept because of the noise we decided to have a word when we checked out. Breakfast my friends wife asked for mushrooms and tomatoes only, the young lady came with 1 grilled tomato and 5 halves of mushroom on a dinner plate she was clearly embarrassed and informed us that the chef only had enough portions out for the guests expected for breakfast. We went to check out the guy behind the desk( who I had noticed during the evening checking around the restaurant etc) was deadpan we told him of our dissatisfaction he was expressionless and thanked us for our feedback, another guest checking out asked if he was going to give a reduction as they had, had the same problem he was met by the same deadpan response on reflection I think he was the senior manager who was used to dealing with this on a regular basis because this must happen every time they have a party in the function room. Will never go back bad customer care

im really sorry you didnt enjoy your stay with us, and that it was too noisy for you, i think we will brief our team to be more informative when booking guests into nights when we have events, i know that you were told that it would be a noisy night as we had a function on that evening, but we will strive to inform people better.

Stayed here last night on a wine and dine night. Room we were given was fine, nice decor and clean. Unfortunately the bathroom was adapted for the disabled, in itself not a problem at all, but due to that fact there was no where to put wash bags they ended up on the stool provided and had to be moved round the bathroom to keep them dry while showering. Water was wonderfully hot all the time and shower nice and powerful. Dinner was a bit of a let down, we were surprised to find the bar menu was the same as for the restaurant. There wasn't much choice for vegetarians but I decided on mushroom and pea risotto, my husband had the gammon. Apart from greasy pineapple the gammon was fine, the risotto was a different matter, it was very bland, there was far too much of it and it had the consistency of wallpaper paste. I've had mushroom risotto plenty of times in different restaurants and i have to say that was the worst. i did mention it to the waiter but i doubt if the message was relayed to the chef. The dessert was also a let down, my husband had "homemade" pistachio biscuits with pistachio ice cream, he could not break the biscuits with a spoon or fork and resorted to picking them up and trying to break them with his teeth ( good job he has his own). I had hazelnut meringue with raspberry compote - which didn't make it to the table. I don't know what had been done to the bottom meringue but it was stuck to the plate and almost impossible to eat. The service was very slow, we booked our table for 7:30 and left at 9:15, it was relatively busy in the restaurant but not that busy. All in all don't think we will return, as the restaurant really lets the place down.

We have stayed here about 3 times a year for the last 3 years whilst visiting family. Up until now we have been very impressed with the accommodation, food and value for money. The accommodation is still great but following our meal for 6 people last night I have concerns about the food.

I had to send my lamb shank back as it was inedible, so solid I couldn't even get a knife or fork into it. Two others were also unhappy with their meals and to their credit the hotel agreed to knock money off the bill.

The Sunday menu also appears to have shrunk significantly in choice and imagination and looks distinctly like a bar menu.

Our concerns were raised with the hotel at the time and the point of this review is not to knock the place but to raise the alarm because these are things that can be sorted out. Customers vote with their feet and it would be a great shame to see this fantastic little hotel struggling.

Thanks for the feedback, we have recently changed the menu, and we had a few things to perfect, but we are working on them. The sunday can be very busy and people dont generally like to wait for the food. As we cook everything from fresh here, its very hard to have a massive menu on Sunday, the key is quality over quantity. But we do hear your comments and will strive to produce as good a sunday offer as we can. Any other ideas would be welcome, please email me at the huntsman.

I stayed at The Huntsman Inn whilst on business in the area. It was amazingly good value for money! The hotel is very attractive, with unusual decor. The menu was interesting (not much for vegetarians but otherwise very good). My dinner was excellent, served by friendly and attentive staff. My room was really comfortable, and not too hot (for a change). The bathroom was well equipped with lovely big towels. I will definitely revisit.

We decided to visit again after we had such a great experience a year ago. Bad idea.
The place its self is very nice with nice decor and very clean which makes it such a shame to leave this reveue. The staff have clearly changed over the year as our last visit was great. This visit the staff are young, inexperienced and rude and spend time chatting and texting on their mobiles. The male staff area a disgrance and would be clearly suited to a totaly different type of venue. There was a long delay with the food, table next to us waited 55 minutes were as we waited only around 25 minutes and the building was quiet so I hate to think how they will cope when its busy. The food arrived bland and my chicken was burnt and did not taste very good, my friends lamb came with a small spider in the vegetables, bad. They did deduct the meal from the bill but the waiters attitude was bad and flipent.
Credit where its due the young lady waitress was very polite and helpfull.
Staff Training is a must for the other staff and maybe look at your kitchen staffing.
As I said a year ago this place was 5 Star,, What has gone wrong.

We are constantly working hard to improve our service here, and to hear that you have had a return visit that was not good really dissapoints us as we spend lots of time effort and money training our team to the highest level. I do hope you return and see the improvements we are making

the Huntsman was a Return Visit for the Stamp Pad in Greenfield who had booked a return Crafters Retreat, Friday evening Saturday and Sunday. the retreat organised by Gwen from the stamp Pad was excellent. Full of interesting Projects. The Huntsman's could have been the ideal place for our Retreat as previously; the bedrooms had been refurbished to a very high standard and were excellent, clean and comfortable. The food was very good when it arrived but some of the new staff have a lot to learn about PR and service. They were understaffed for the number on our course plus the other guests who were booked in either in the hotel or as diners. This didn't daunt us. We had an excellent short break, The hotel did their best under difficult circumstance and are actively recruiting more staff.

We decided to look for a relaxing hotel at the North end of the National Park and decided on The Huntsman just outside Holmfirth. Being a dedicated "Summer wine" fan it has always been an area I have wanted to visit for Years. We stayed for three nights in room 10, with our friends in room 11 next door, from the 8th October 2013. We all thought it was an excellent and well run hotel. The food was perfect and the service was the best we have encountered in the U.K. for years. The hotel has just been given a makeover to a high standard with the bedrooms finished luxuriously.
We would recommend this establishment to any looking for a relaxing short break in Yorkshire and we will almost certainly return next year.

Room Tip: Rooms 10 and 11 have excellent views over the valley.
