“We couldn't have asked for a better weekend !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2012

We arrived on a busy Friday evening, but nothing was too much trouble. Sarah showed us to our room. Spacious, clean & very comfortable with spotless en-suite.
The White horse is very popular with locals & Friday night is fish & chip night-definately worth staying for-great meal & service at a great price. The bar is warm & welcoming with lovely log fires.Breakfast in the bar was a great start to the day, plentiful, tasty,& served very quickly. We'd managed to pick up a slow puncture on the way here, but Sarah pointed us to Muslin Hall garage,on the way into Holmfirth.A huge thumbs up to Steve & his lads who had it sorted in no time !
Holmfirth is a little gem,we walked miles & enjoyed all the 'Summer Wine' sights. If you're a big reader, don't miss Daisy Lane books, just around the corner from Sids Cafe !
We did briefly consider venturing out for a meal elsewhere on Saturday evening, but the lure of the great atmosphere & food at the White Horse ensured we stayed & enjoyed another great evening.
The White Horse is a lovely old building, fondly remembered by any 'summer Wine' fan,but it has been carefully refurbished to offer all it's charm with 21st century comfort. Sarah & David work very hard & offer a welcome second to none to both locals & visitor alike. We were sad to head for home & heartily recommend a stay here to anyone ! We hope to be back soon. Many thanks for a great escape weekend.

We arrived early Saturday evening, at a particularly busy time with service in full flow, and received a very friendly welcome by David. We decided to stay and eat - influenced by the open fires and the warm and friendly atmosphere- rather than venture into the cold to search for an alternative eatery. Very pleased we did - the food was very good. Our room (with ensuite)was very clean and 'uncluttered', the bed was cosy, and the breakfast was exceptionally well cooked and presented. I understand that the pub was recently refurbished - tastefully decorated, as was the bedroom. Sarah pointed us in the direction of some good local walks after breakfast, the pub is surrounded by some lovely hills, and hamlets, and we enjoyed a 6 mile walk before leaving for home. Hairdryer, TV, and teatray in our room. Will certainly return if in this area again.

A group of us stayed for B&B as we were going to a concert in Holmfirth. The White Horse has just re-opened after having a refurb and the pub and bedrooms are lovely. We were given a warm friendly welcome by Sarah & David. The pub has open fires, comfy seating and good pub food. The bedrooms are very nice, with ensuite facilities, tea tray, tv & hairdryer.
Breakfast was served in the bar, and was a good choice of cooked breakfast with lots of hot tea & toast. Just what we needed after the night before!

The staff were welcoming and friendly and the pub itself was lovely but the rooms are a bit basic. The main problem was that there were only light blinds, no curtains, which meant I woke when the sun came up which isnt what I want when I am on a break away.

This alone means we wont be back Im afraid, but Holmfirth is great and we will be back there.

Visiting The White Horse in beautiful Holmfirth was one of the highlights of our return trip to our home county of Yorkshire. Living in the USA and faithfully viewing the "Last of the Summer Wine" series every week.....with scenes of Yorkshire at it's best.....we were so happy to return to familiar places...and to actually stay in this rare old English pub, with it's memories of Compo , Cleggie and the rest of the Summer Wine company. The welcome was warm and friendly..comfy room and great full English breakfast......the locals were fun to spend an evening with...and the whole experience was wonderful! We would happily return in the future.....Many thanks to David and Sarah who manage the White Horse. Nice job! Holmfirth itself was a joy to explore (even the rain could not spoil our fun)...and it was good to return to the White Horse each evening.
A totally good experience.......made us re-new our love of Yorkshire pubs, Yorkshire villages and Yorkshire folk! Hope to return....again!

This is a superb homely little pub in a quiet location with some great scenery nearby. David & Sarah made us really welcome and at the time of our stay they had only been there 6 weeks but really making things ship shape and have great plans to bring more improvements to the White Horse! hey they now have a card machine so into the 21st century!

Rooms are nice, clean, tasteful and are to a high standard & quality, the beds are so comfortable!! as a tip if your tall like me mind your head when going to your room! Breakfast in the bar area was good, niecly cooked and plentyful, certainly sets you up for the day (and those hills if your out walking?)

The location is just out of Holmfirth by about 1.5 miles, a nice walk to the town if your up for it, plenty of buses and taxi's though (£4 each way)

Overall great value for money given the price of some accomodation in town, happy to recommend it (as it was for us) the nostalgic pictures of scenes from 'last of the summer wine' in the bar area takes you back and inevitably makes you think which characters are alive these days?
