Stayed here on an Amazon deal.
Was impressed from the start, although the satnav did struggle to find it. In a cracking spot in the middle of Holmfirth. For those not in the know, this is the place where the series, Last of the Summer Wine was filmed. And yes we did take the quaint old bus trip that covers all aspects of that programme. Though not an avid viewer, I really quite enjoyed it.
Anyway The Old Bridge is bang in the middle of the town which itself is lovely. Everything is within easy reach. Banks, restaurants, pubs, shops etc.
We were in room 18 which although small was quite adequate, though must be the smallest shower cubicle I have ever used. Heard some guests complaining about the heat. Heck, the country was in the middle of a heat wave. A small fan was available in the room and even with the window open the fan did struggle, but it would have been the same at home. The place is undergoing a rolling refurb. Room 18 has not yet been done. There is a tv and a hair dryer but no air con.
The breakfast was really good with plenty of choice, no complaints there.
Food is served throughout the day on the large decked area between the hotel and the river. The quality is fine and not too expensive. There are two distinct areas, one side is for smokers and the other not. Staff were happy to request customers to move to the other side if they smoked on the wrong side, once they were nudged to do so.
Obviously, a car is essential if you wish to explore the wider area.
Wi fi was said to be available but we couldn't get it to work.
The only gripe we had was the bin men emptying the bins at half past six in the morning. No chance of sleeping through that with the window open.

Room Tip: We were on the back. Would be a more pleasant view on the front.

If you are planning to visit Holmfirth and the surrounding area I cant recommend this hotel enough, very friendly staff, very clean rooms, good food and beer ,had two nights stay for our silver wedding and it was excellent. The decking area out front is new and very smart overlooking the town and the river, not too busy at night and the cafes and bars in the area are good as well.It was nice to stay at a hotel where you were made to feel very welcome, all the staff and management should be proud of themselves, well done the old bridge.

Room Tip: room 24 with the balconey

This is the first time I have ever bothered to write a review but the service and food at The Old Bridge was so impressive that here I am.We had been to The Bridge in the past and we were pleasantly surprised that it been so well refurbished. We took our 2year old twin grandsons. The menu for children was very visual and they were able to select their own meal. They chose fish fingers which were small portions of beautiful white fish in a light batter - nothing like shop bought fish fingers. They devoured it all. They each received a large bag of books, games and crayons to occupy them whilst waiting. The adult meals were also tasty, imaginative and beautifully served. Ice creams for the children came in plastic figures of animals which we could then take home to re use. The staff were all very helpful and even though the place was busy nothing was too much trouble. We shall certainly be going again.Karen Buchanan Stockport

The new bar and coffee lounge area is spectacular! Let's hope this continues through the dining room and the rooms.

I stayed in two rooms....no. 27 with a balcony overlooking the entrance...and no. 26 right next door. The maroon and beige decor seemed dark to me...the bathrooms have been updated but the floor in there was squishy....not sure why.

Would go back as it is right in the heart of Holmfirth.....and the bar was hopping most nights...but then I was there the week before the Tour de France rolled through town.

Room Tip: Wifi does not work in rooms.....you have to go down to the main floor...this is a bit inconvenient...

Room

Before I start I should mention that we were on an amazon deal so with some trepidation we wondered what sort of room we were going to get after reading some of the other comments. We were at the back overlooking a small lane, it appeared that all the rooms at the back were of a similar style, ours was a moderate size comprising of bed, 2 bedside cabinets, chest of drawers, ample hanging and clothing shelves. All the usual tea, coffee, TV, hairdryer, iron.
It was very clean and the bed was very comfortable

The room was very warm as others have stated, opening the windows wide offered little respite, we made constant use of the fan provided

Bathroom
a little smaller than I would have like but more than adequate, there were signs of recent refurbishment I.e. new shower head and rail, new cushion floor. The sanitary units were a little dated in colour but in good condition functional and adequate. The biggest improvement would be the provision of different lightening say LED as the room was quite dark

Bar and restaurant areas are lovely having been recently refurbished

Food,
we ate there on two nights, the food was excellent, being hot, well cooked, presented, very tasty and plentiful especially the meat pie. Breakfast were as good as it gets

Staff, they were very friendly

Overall a very good experience

Would I return - yes but I would pick a different time of the year unless they can sort out the heat levels in the rooms

The rooms were stifling hot. Fr the horridor you could not breath. Upon entering the room it hit you like getting off the plane abroad. There was a fan on and the windows wide open which did not touch it. We spoke to another couple who had complained about the same room and been moved !! We bummed out and got stuck in it as all the rooms were then full. Terrible staff attitude of we can't go anything at all. Very poor !!! Don't go

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, due to the unusually hot weather the rooms have been very warm. We have supplied fans to all bedrooms and our staff team as always have tried their very best to ease the situation. As you can see from all the other reviews our team are always helpful and obliging.
