“Excellent cottage with wonderful views”
Reviewed 6 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Wonderful holiday cottage with excellent walks to Holmfirth and surrounding area. So much to do that we did not have time to do all we wanted. The welcome pack with bread, marmalade, milk and butter, tea bags when arriving after a long journey was great. Great restaurants and cafes as in all of Yorkshire. So nice to see that wool and yarns are being spun in Yorkshire again and many mills have now re-opened. Loved Byram Arcade in Huddersfield. Hope to go back soon.

“British Summer Wine Experience”

Seriously, what's not to like about this cottage? A beautiful cottage in an idyllic location.

When we arrived we were greeted by Kate who told us about all the places we could visit, the local pubs and eateries and suggested walks. All welcome information.

We stayed three nights and the evening weather wasn't great, thunder storms two nights in a row, but we had a couple of lovely afternoons out. And staying in, playing cards, watching TV (and the rain) was still enjoyable because Millpond Cottage is so homely.
The view out the back window is lovely. The ducks swim up and down all day. Keep an eye out for the heron on the roof of the building opposite, he visited two mornings in a row. Many other birds to see too. Note to self: bring binoculars next time. I also heard that a kingfisher frequents the area although we didn't catch a glimpse.

I'd highly recommend a walk to Holmfirth. For those of a certain age that grew up watching Last of the Summer Wine, the exhibition is well worth the entrance fee. We also walked to Ramsden Reservoir which offers some beautiful and scenic views.

All in all, we look forward to returning to Millpond Cottage. And next time, we hope, there will be access on to the new balcony.

“3 In A Bed”
Reviewed 20 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

I booked this cottage for my husband's 60th birthday. As soon as we arrived we were met by the owner Kate ..she even helped us to unload the car...Inside the cottage was dream, well furnished,a complete home from home everything you need including a log burning stove ...not only that Kate had bought us milk, bread, homemade marmalade & to top it all up a bottle of bubbly, as it hadn't been forgotten that it was a birthday celebration...As said if this cottage was featured on the programme 4 in a bed we would have given it 10/10 in a heartbeat...& yes we are going again as soon as I've finished writing this review I will be booking again for later on in the year..: )

As for the location it's beautiful just 2 minutes away there is the wooded path down to the millpond where we took our pooch for a walk & hey she even learnt to swim!...which is somewhat of a miracle because she hates water!

Now as for eating out or in as the case may be...Compo's chippy is about 2minutes in the car or a nice walk...the fish chips,& mushy peas are to die for! The Stumble Inn is just a short stroll & as my lovely husband remarked.."They pull a bloody good pint!"...: )

Holmfirth itself is lovely, many attractions to see from the T.V. series ' Last Of The Summer Wine'...plenty of shops cafe's in fact we didn't have enough time to get round to seeing it all 5 days is just not long enough to take in all the pleasures that the area has to offer...The only downside to the holiday was that we had to come home..but not for long..As 'Arnie' says we will be back!......: )

“Summer wine Winter experience”

A quaint mill workers cottage with all the mod cons. Warm and very cosy. Love the welcom e pack. Minus zero outside, glow and crackle from the log burner curled up watching tv, drinking the last of the welcome pack (summer)wine! (Sorry) heavenly. Enjoyed the river side walk complete with the19th century textile mill water management system (boots or wellies recommended). The area is full of friendly cask ale pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and cafes some dog friendly. Also some nice shops, (found the whisky shop). Overall a lovely winter break. Thanks Kate and Steve can't wait for our "summer wine summer experience" in June.
