“Good Food, good service and excellent value.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

I must recommend this establishment to refute a recent negative review which proves to me that Michael Winner was alive and well when reviewing No.14 The Village. Such pretentiousness is not reserved for the Staff who have have been so harshly criticised. It would have been manners for the reviewer speak to management rather than go on an "assassination" crusade of the staff and indicate the intention of a negative review. We have been frequenting this establishment since it commenced business and have always found the staff courteous, efficient, friendly and the food of a high standard. We think this review was vindictive. (We look forward to the review of the "chippie" further up the street.)

“Ticks all the boxes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

I visited No 14 recently to celebrate my husband's birthday accompanied by an American friend.

The food was as good as always, particularly the warm satay salad. The atmosphere was lovely with a nice buzz helped along as always by the excellent service from polite friendly and engaging staff who cheerfully and knowledgeably answered all our questions.

Thank you to all but especially the front of house staff for making this a very special evening not just for my husband but for our friend who was very impressed.

“Pretentiousness Personified”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2014

No 14 The Village, is a bistro and coffee house sitting right on the Main Street in Greyabbey Co Down N Ireland. Firstly I have to say to the owner, 'Look, some of us eat out a lot, so please don't patronise us with 'pretend 9 star' staff who float around as mini godesses but who aren't in fact, doing anything like a good job. We know a good job when we see one and this wasn't it. And don't let them be skimpy either'.The couple beside us requested a second teabag in their teapot, having spotted the 'short change' in the 'dishwater' pretending to be tea for two.I have to say, skimping like that does get to me. As does the fact that staff ignore customers like the other lady beside us trying to attract the attention of one of these Godesses' as she passed directly in front of her and continued about her obviously much more 'important business'. And this was not a once-off. There was a definite irritating pattern here...a 'we run a refined, slow show' and do one task at a time, in our own slow floaty way and nothing else gets done outside of our own particular 'running order'. In fact staff remained in this 'other world' of their own that No 14 finds itself, right throughout our meal. Let me be specific here, This 'other world' works in a customer service planet of it's own with an attitude of 'we attend the customers when it suits us and only if they are fit to kiss our boots'.Its rarely I spend much review space on staff, but quite frankly, this place is for the birds. Music that can't make up it's 'celtic mind', staff that don't spot and help a wheelchair customer and her carer, struggling up impossible steps at the entrance and of course, food that's quite good, but thinks its superb. It isn't. A lunchtime bill for three adults with starter, main courses and desserts, totalled some £55. So.... good food, good value, but please please, will you get real with the surreal 'floaty' nonchalant attitude to the customer. After all, we do pay your wages and don't enjoy being either ignored or patronised. Not impressed overall with an attitude that has to change, before we'd be back. Next time we might use the mobile chipper further up the street...at least they'd be real and appreciate our custom!

I do not normally respond to trip advisor reviews, preferring instead to engage with our customers face to face; however I do not recognise the portrait you attempt to paint of my staff and the tone you adopt will be deeply hurtful to both of them ie the word 'goddesses' and the disgraceful 'fit to kiss our boots' phrase. May I suggest that you pause to reflect on the potential personal distress your comments may have on the hardworking and very helpful individuals concerned both of whom as far I as the owner and the overwhelming majority of our customers are concerned do a thoroughly excellent job and are regularly commended for such on this site and in the restaurant. I hope that you refrain from this type of unnecessary, unkind and snide commentary in future with other establishments. There is no need for it.

Great lunch meal and the evening meal looked appealing so will certainly try again... Small but good food and good service.

Stylish, artistic, gentile restaurant. Very attentive staff and an excellent small menu. Never had anything but superb meals there. Afternoon tea spot on too with yummy selection of cakes. Thoroughly recommend No.14.
