“Delightful Introduction to B&B Lodging and Traveling in Northern Ireland”
Reviewed 7 May 2011

Two pleasant nights at Laurel Villa provided my husband and me with a delightful introduction to B&B lodging and traveling in Northern Ireland. Our hosts Eugene and Gerardine Kielt were most accommodating. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Gerardine’s breakfasts were simply delicious; they included fruit salad, eggs, bacon, sausage, homemade bread and scones. The chance to ask for healthy food choices was refreshing. Breakfast was served in a lovely dining room. In addition to enjoying the wonderful dining experience, we spent our time chatting with an incredibly interesting fellow guest and reading Seamus Heaney poems printed on beautiful linen hangings.

This was the first time we stayed at a B&B. The thoughtful touches that Laurel Villa offers are too numerous to note. One feature that I appreciated was our hosts’s practice of putting china tea cups in each room enabling guests to relax with a cup of coffee or tea with biscuits each evening. Although we had noted Laurel Villa’s poetry theme while making plans for our trip, we were impressed by how genuine and authentic this feature actually is. For our next stay, we will make advance arrangements with Eugene for him to take us on a tour of Heaney country.

We highly recommend Laurel Villa. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

We definitely enjoyed our stay at Laurel Villa. This warm nest in the middle of Northern Ireland is a real must go for people with a passion/ interest in Ulster Literature and Poetry. Gerardine welcomes you with her warm smile and the typical regional hospitality. We stayed in a very nice room (every room has is own poetry-theme!). After a nice rest in the comfortable beds, you will enjoy the fresh bread, scones, and a typical (Norhern) Irish breakfast. Still doubting what to do? Eugene will help you out, as local guide and historicus he will overload you with ideas and nice trips in the area.

We stayed at Laurel Villa during a family history visit to the area and were given the warmest of welcomes by Gerardine and Eugene. Not only were the hospitality, rooms and food tremendous but Eugene was able to help with our family research too. Although we only stayed for one night we left with a great feeling of frienship and would all love to visit again. Without doubt Laurel Villa is most certainly the place to stay in the Magherafelt area.
We cannot recommend it enough.

Not just a guest house, more a beautiful home which Eugene and Geraldine are happy to share with you. The house is a treasure trove of memorabilia about famous Northern Irish poets especially Seamus Heaney. Our room "Seamus Heaney" was comfortable and well appointed. The walls were full of interesting posters and art work and Heaney memorabilia. There is so much to look at at Laurel Villa and you don't have to be a poetry "nut" to be drawn into it all. Eugene will also help you research your family history if you have a South Derry connection. He's not so bad in the kitchen either we can vouch for the lovely Ulster breakfast.

A charming and elegant house perfectly complemented by the charm and grace of the hosts. The warmth of the welcome made us feel like old friends arriving for a visit. Five beautifully appointed en-suite rooms each celebrate one of the Northern Ireland poets and contain lots of interesting memorabilia. Breakfast was served in a beautiful dining room and included the freshest of fresh fruit salads, cereals, homemade brown bread, and delicious bacon and mushrooms. The highlight of the weekend for us was a poetry reading in the house by Kate Newmann and Maria Macmanus which was attended by a gathering of townspeople and was followed by supper and wine and lively conversation -friendliness, gentleness, openess and warmth extended to all. We look forward to many more visits.

We needed somewhere to stay for a work trip to Magharafelt and had been told about this lovely guesthouse by our colleauges who had stayed there the previous year. We arrived in the evening, in the dark to a lvoely friendly welcome. We were quickly shown our rooms and recomended where we could eat on a quiet Monday evening before being left to ourselves. Perfect amount of attentiveness and respectfulness for our privacy.

The rooms are well kept, homely and beautifully decorated. Each themed on a poet. The rooms we stayed in were ensuite and had tea-making facitlties, television and a hairdryer. They have a lot of personality with a mix of modern and antique decor.

The breakfast room is a beautiful large room with cereals out for you to pick. Fresh fruit salad is provided with tea and coffee and you cna also have the option of a freshley cooked hot breakfast.

I really enjoyed staying here and would definately recommend it to freinds and family looking to visit Northern Ireland. Full of character and great service, it is one of the nicest B&Bs I have had the pleasure of staying in.

We stayed at this wonderful guest house during mid December. Our hosts Gerardine & Eugene were extremely accommodating. The rooms are beautifully decorated and bed comfortable. The delicious breakfast set us up for the busy day ahead! An added bonus was Eugene's extensive knowledge of the magherafelt and it's surrounding area as well as the families in and around the area. Given that my husband and I were in magherafelt to trace my ancestors this was very helpful... In fact we decided to stay an extra night. I have had no hesitation in recommending laurell villa guest house to my family who plan on visiting Northern Ireland in the near future.
We we'll be back!
