“Let down”
Reviewed 18 April 2012

Title really says it all! We went as a family late January with my father and step mother to have a Sunday lunch. We prebooked and although the staff serving was friendly the place had no atmosphere. Granted we were the only customers!!! We were told there was no deserts and choice felt limited. We won't return as it felt very unkept, unclean (flies in vinegar/toilets) and uncomfortable. Like another review felt the place was only opened to serve us because we'd phoned half hr before arriving. On a positive note he portions of food and quality were good so the new management are doing something right just need to up the game more.

“Trying hard, but must do better.”
Reviewed 19 December 2011

After the sudden exit of the previous chef, the restaurant has re-opened under new management. We were the only customers and found that the kitchen had only been opened because we had a booking. The food was acceptable, and the log fire had been lit. The young chef appeared to be the only member of staff present, so had to do everything. He did his best, and has only been in post for a week.

A couple of tips: do give the outside of the building a coat of paint. It looks run down and unwelcoming, ands had we not had a reservation, we would not have been tempted in. Once inside, the decor is OK.
Also, please don't serve food on cold plates, and please get a mill for black pepper. My husband asked for some for his pasta dish, and none was available. The chef offered to take his plate into the kitchen and put some pepper on his meal. My husband declined, as he wanted his food to be hot when he started to eat it. The chef went to the kitchen and brought a dish of ground pepper, clearly the one he uses for cooking. (Full marks for effort, though)!

We wish the new team luck in their venture, but do pay attention to the detail - after all, the food was quite promising.

“Amazing food”

We had a perfect lunch at this restaurant, tucked away in a quiet valley by the Don, make sure you make a detour to eat here. surely it will get a Michelin star one day but such good value for money. Superb food and great service.

“Truely beautiful!”
Reviewed 8 August 2011

This is the second time I have been here with my family and was not let down! The food was absolutely gorgeous and the staff were very friendly with nothing being too much of a problem. The Chef really is an asset and his skills can clearly be seen in the dishes! This is a must visit!!!

“Lovely Meal Quality Food”
Reviewed 7 August 2011

Had a lovely meal here with my family, a birthday surprise nothing too much trouble for this restaurant, quality food and great service, this is the second time we have dined here, local produce too . great stuff !!
Try the risotto for your starter its lovely, makes a difference when the chef takes your order as you can ask for special things , this man certainly know his food .!!!!!!

P.S. Maybe a better selection of bottled beers or cider would be a idea.
