“Fantastic!”
Reviewed 24 February 2013

We went for dinner and although we are local we decided to treat ourselves to a room for the night. The meal was delicious, the room was lovely and the breakfast first class. Added to that the welcoming and friendly staff, a great time was had and we will visit again soon. Did I mention how good the breakfast was? :)

Great to see the hotel open again
This is a spectacular place to stay . Glorious setting with ancient castle ruins in full view of the Victorian Hotel . Grand entrance and huge oak pannelled hallway with elegant stairs inviting you up to suptuous rooms . Four posters in some rooms and comfortable beds !
The staff with Fiona who has been an ever present for 25 years and the new proprietors who offer exellent advice re wines for the meals and are most attentive .
The food in truth was not exceptional in fact some dishes - veg lasagne not at restaurant standard but honestly the food is a mere detail - this is a great place to go with friends and enjoy the ambience , the place itself , the helpful staff and good wine and of course the whisky which has its own menu .
Thoroughly enjoyable place to go , you will enjoy !

Room Tip: we have not stayed since it reopened Our favourite was The Clochter pot !

We stayed overnight while on a Highland tour. We and the dogs were made very welcome. The dogs are allowed in the bedrooms, but nowhere in the public rooms. The grounds are filled with beautiful red squirrels and pheasants so dogs need to be on leads and under close control at all times. The hotel is a fantastic building and the staff helpful. The room was very clean, spacious with plenty of hot water and a deep bath! The food was a little disappointing and I do not know if this is just the french influence? The steak & chips was exactly that, with no salad or extras. I have no doubt had I asked for salad it would have been provided. The cooked breakfast was a little dry and mushrooms were just 2 small grilled mushrooms. Overall the experience was great & I wish the new management best of luck

The tone was set already before arrival. Telephoning for advise about the nearest open distillery, Elise offered to do the booking for us, check transport alternatives and call us back. So she did. The room was nice with a beautifull view of the castle ruins and a garden with pheasants in different colours and squirrels running around. While enjoying an aperitif in the bar, we heard the noises of dogs in the corridor. Missing our own dog, we got out to chat with the dogowners and Claude, the manager of the hotel. The philosophy of this place is generosity above all. Both dogs and kids are welcome, but it never became noisy. One gets the feeling that there is room enough for everybody, and the mother and daughter hostesses have time enough to talk with their guests.
The french chefs cooked great food, better than anything I had tasted at other hotels or resaurants in Scotland. We had some plans and a flight to catch on the 2nd day of our stay. But the plans were skipped for a walk in the beautiful garden park surrounding the hotel. Normally closed for the winter, but the hotel managers have arranged it so that it is possible to get an entrance ticket any time of the day all year round. Dressed in white snow, the garden had a distinct winter melancholy worth experiencing.
We had tea and lunch served in the library before we left, accompanied by local mythology told by an enthusiactic and in himself interesting waiter, or should I say butler? Overall, the staff seemed to be more than just ordinary staff, more like a collective that worked flexibly together to make the guests feel maximum comfortable. No problem either to retreat with a book in one of the 3 common rooms (bar, library, salon). An unusually pleasant hotel experience!

Stayed one night and, as we were the only guests, it felt like personal butler service. It's a beautiful building both out and inside, decoration on the shabby chic side but wonderful and homely for all that. Open fires all over the place, with a lovely smell of woodsmoke about the place. Room fine, beds very comfortable (feather pillows excellent), shower a moderately warm but slowish trickle which could have been as a result of the earlier boiler break down. We didn't notice the radiators had gone off until reception phoned to ask if we would like an electric heater. We were kept informed about repair progress so very pleased with communications. Staff excellent, so nice to see cleaners in uniform. Evening meal quite outstanding. Beer, wines and spirits prices very reasonable for such an isolated place. Would we go back, absolutely.

My husband and I stayed for a weekend break. As our daughter had been married two weeks previous to our stay our main reason for the weekend was to recharge our batteries. This we did in splendour. The food was excellent and put room was great and comfortable - with a four posted bed!!! We would definitely stay their again.

I have been a regular visitor to Kildrummy for many years. The hotel is better than ever. The food and service are excellent. However, it is the current team that make it extra special. They go the extra distance to make you feel at home. I have stayed at the hotel on 3 separate occasions in the past 4 months and cannot fault any aspect of the overall experience. Although only a short distance from Aberdeen, Kildrummy feels like a million miles away. I leave feeling truly relaxed, having enjoyed the fantastic scenery, the open log fires, the delicious cuisine and a very warm welcome from all who are involved in the running of the hotel. Kildrummy is truly unique in Scotland. Thank you to Claude and Elise for bringing Kildrummy back to life in such a special way.
