Had a good meal here. Excellent service with a short but delicius menu. I stasrted with scallops and wife had the goats ceese which were both great. For mains steak was good but nothing special and fish stew was again very tasty. The wine accompanying the food was good as expected and finished off with one of the best sticky toffee puddings ever, not to heavy and served with delicious ice cream.

We were visiting the nearby kildrummy castle gardens and stopped in by here for lunch. Sandwiches £6.50, which we thought a bit pricey but gave them a go. Ordered egg mayo baguette, and my toddler son a cheese sandwich and my husband ordered a panini. Egg mayo baguette arrived in white bread and bread was stale, rock hard, advised waitress who took it away and returned with fresh, however still with bread and no baguette, she offered to change it again but my husband was almost finished by then. All 3 sandwiches arrived with a few lettuce leaves and 2 slices of tomato, after eating the top few pieces of lettuce, I then discovered the lettuce underneath was still covered in earth and had obviously not been washed. Called the waitress again who apologised and said they were having some problems, clearly. Spoke to manager who didn't charge for the food but overall service and food was dreadful, would not return. Also asked for highchair and when it was brought out it was very dirty and the waitress brushed the table on it with her hand. We then asked for a cloth to clean it which was done after we asked. Poor service from what is a 4 star hotel. This was all while we were the only 3 guests in the hotel for lunch, goodness knows how the would cope with more than 3 orders if the restaurant was full.

Great setting, and even better food! Lovely starched white table clothes, spacious tables, confortable chairs and most importantly beautifully presented and very tasty food... Service is friendly and not at all 'stuffy' and the food is to die for....you don't have to worry about 'nouvelle cuisine' portions here, if anything make sure you don't eat prior to your visit, to ensure you have room for all the delicious courses!
We had foie gras both nights of our stay, it was sooooo delicious... On our second night we managed to paused long enough to take some photos of our main courses, however even then we could not stop ourselves from eating the devine foie gras before realising we'd forgotten to take a photo again!!! The goats cheese salad is superb. (A dish so often mis-produced elsewhere!) The food is French and Scottish and all created from fantastic locally sourced produce. Even though we're not ones for pudding/deserts we couldn't resist the creme brûlée, mmmm sublime!
We would advise booking in advance, especially at the weekend, as lots of local people enjoy coming to this restaurant too!

We were encouraged by friends to join them on a visit back to the castle since the change in ownership was attracting good local reviews and they had already dined there recently. It's like you have been briefly transported to France as the staff are almost all French and the food is uncompromising in style being just that, French!

We all enjoyed a full three courses at the table with wine and of course an amuse bouche tempted our palates as we selected from the menu. We will return again one day, and probably pretty soon.
