“Lovely meal”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2013

Lovely meal, good value, however restaurant was very busy and service was a bit lax, could have helped if there were more waitresses as this was a big weekend and the owners would have known in advance of the larger numbers.

“A nice surprise”

Picked this hotel to eat as it looked more appealing than other places in Annan on a cool breezy evening. It was reasonably busy which gave us confidence. Good choice - tucked away table position, efficient pleasant service. Food very edible and good value for money. Would recommend.

“Good value for money, traditional English”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2013

Recommended by locals as being good quality no frills. Ate there last night, Sunday evening. It was reasonably quiet, but as it was horrible rainy windy evening was not really surprised. People at next table commented that it was normally full, so obviously has a good reputation locally.
Went for the carvery, lots of meat, good freshly cooked vegetables, help yourself to what you wanted. Tasty, but not overly hot, but we were almost the last people in.. Dessert was treacle pudding, huge portion with lots of custard and apple pie with custard. Nice ombience, friendly staff. Would go back.

“Scottish Break”

Lovely unspoilt town with walks by the river and close proximity to Gretna Green, Hadrian's Wall, the Lake District etc.
Well worth a visit.

“Ate in restaurant - never again!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2012

To be fair to the hotel did not stay here and only ate in Italian restaurant attached to it - dreadful experience. It was a Friday night and was not very busy - alarm bells should have been ringing then. Despite advertising pizza, pasta and risotto on early bird menu our bill did not reflect this. Did not query at the tine since unsure if we had picked this up wrong - but have since checked website and we were right. Two of us had pizzas - one vegetarian, the other meat based - and were both ill the following day. Don't know if this was just coincidence ...... The pizzas were both very salty - don't know if it was the sauce or the cheese causing this but they were not very nice. The third member of our party had sea bass in a prawn and vodka sauce - which came smothered in sauce with boiled potatoes and veg - and also some limp looking salad all on the sane plate. It was a very strange combination and not the most enjoyable of eating experiences. Living locally we eat out quite a lot - but this is certainly somewhere we will not return to.
