On a fishing & touring visit to the Stewart / Hyder area we stayed at the King Edward Motel (across the street from the hotel) part of the time, and in the Rainey Creek campground nearby the rest of the time. The room was pretty utilitarian, but comfortable and clean. The bathroom was large enough, though not roomy. The kitchenette was well stocked with pots & pans as well as dishes. The best part was the full sized refrigerator with freezer, which meant we could get our catch home before it spoiled. (As an aside - there is nowhere we found that sells dry ice in the area!) The price was pretty high, but as there isn't much competition, it could have been worse. All in all, we were happy with the place.

I had a chance to take a look into the kitchen and my god, it is a dirty run down place and the meals are way overpriced for such a cheap Mickey Mouse outfit. The owners are very unfriendly and rude, kinda very cheap people and only focused on money but no service. The rooms are primitive, the view is unforgetable (straight onto a dirty parking-lot) and the wireless internet is !!THE!! nightmare. For eating: Only 1 block down the road (across the visitor centre) is a concession truck, way cleaner, cheaper and better to eat there.

Room Tip: Just dont go there, way too expensive for what you get.

I stayed in the motel portion of the complex across the street from the main hotel. The room was basic but clean. It was quiet and the employees were helpful. It was relatively expensive ($119 US) but, given the very limited options available in the Stewart, BC/Hyder, AK area, you are sort of a captive audience.

Room Tip: Rooms in the motel portion are quieter than in the main hotel portion.

We were mostly happy with this motel. We received a kitchenette unit and the beds were comfortable enough. The people at the front desk were friendly and helpful and the price is decent. The only complaint that I have is that it is a rather noisy place to stay. Many people are getting up at very early (4:30 am - I assume to go to work) but perhaps this is only in the motel section (which is across the street from the hotel).

We were lucky to get the last room at the King Edward in the motel building cross the street from the hotel. It was a smoking room but the friendly, pleasant woman at the desk told us that they ozonate the room so it doesn't smell. She wasn't exaggerating. We only got a couple of whiffs of old smoke. The room was clean and suited our needs perfectly since we only needed it for one night to sleep. They also added a cot for us at no extra cost and gave us extra towels without us needing to ask for them. We did the trip up to Salmon Glacier. We also ate at the restaurant the next morning and found the food tasty and reasonably priced. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Book early if you want a non-smoking room. Also, bring food so you can use the kitchenette!

We stayed at the King Edward Motel, which is located at the same road, opposite the hotel. The motel is a little more expensive than the hotel (119 against 99 CAD, plus tax) but you get a nice kitchenette with all the gear you need, a separated living- and bedroom, a flatscreen television and there even was a bag of icecubes in the fridge. Overall, the room we had was comfortable and clean. Staying here will be a good decision - and as Stewart nor Hyder offers a lot of hotels you have a limited choice anyway,
King Edward offers a good place to stay if you want to see bears or drive to the Salmon Glacier (which is great, but you need to be an experienced driver and have a decent car ;-))

Stewart is quite remote with the nearest large town being several hours away. The King Edward Hotel would be a complete rip-off if it were in Vancouver or Whistler, but in a remote place like Stewart, it is not a bad option. The rooms are spacious and clean and offer cable TV with wireless internet. I did not like the restaurant that was attached to the hotel. It was overpriced and offered very small portions. The hotel though, was decent.
