“splendid, spendy food and atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2010

We had a fantastic dinner here. I ordered salmon with lemon caper dip; my son had the salmon chowder. We shared two salads and two desserts.

The salmon was fresh wild sockeye, tender and moist, the lemon caper dip a tangy, tasty companion to the fish. Side veggies were fresh and nicely roasted, not smothered in sauce.

Served with a fresh, chewy roll, the chowder was a white one, creamy but not overly rich. It had plenty of fresh wild sockeye in it, as well as potatoes, carrots, and other veggies.

Salads both had avocado and tangy dressing, but differed in their other vegetables. Each was made from absolutely fresh ingredients and was delicious.

For dessert, we ordered chocolate cheesecake and apple blueberry streusel. Both were outstanding: the cheesecake moist and rich and chocolaty, with superb chocolate crust and plenty of sour, traditional cheesecake flavor. The streusel’s sugary, buttery, crunchy crust blended nicely with its tart, sweet fresh-fruit interior.

Atmosphere was another strong point. The interior of the café is full of interesting decorations and plenty of natural wood. Service was also excellent: prompt and helpful.

About the only downside was the bill, which was large, especially for an American wallet with the current exchange rate. Still, it was worth it, and we would go back.

“YUMMY!”

Excellent food, decent prices, sometimes slow service...but really good meals -definitely recommend it - it was by far the best place we ate in the Stewart/Hyder area.
