“Quiet but small motel room”
Reviewed 20 October 2011

Stayed in one of the motel rooms. Quiet but small room and the windows are back to front - large window for parking lot, tiny window for ocean. Plain breakfast. Ok value for money but nothing special (this review is for the motel - the B&B may be different)

My mother and I arrived in Canso just as Hurricane Ophelia was making her presence known to the Cape Breton part of Nova Scotia. The Tourist Office in Port Hastings was very helpful and was able to get us Room 2 at this B&B. It was a stunning room with 2 double beds and lots of original (but well kept) furniture. Very well decorated, warm rooms with plenty of hot water!!

John and Sharon Spencer who own and run the B&B could not have been more helpful and inviting, offering us Tea and Coffee on our arrival and a fabulous Breakfast in the morning.

When we woke up in the morning, although the storm had started to hit we could not hear the wind outside thanks to the very well insulated windows.

There was a good-sized Car Park outside and six additional motel rooms behind the main House as well as a built in "Viewing" Room that provided a stunning view of the harbour and the Strait of Canso.

A Perfect Place to relax and unwind after a long day's drive! I would go back in a Heart Beat!

Room Tip: Bedrooms 1 and 2 on the first floor do not have en-suite bathrooms but are located next door which m...

We stayed at the motel portion on our way back from Cape Breton. We had been planning on camping in Chetticamp but the weather convinced us otherwise. We made the unplanned drive into Port Hawkesbury and needed a bed for the night. We were shown a motel room and it suited us quite well for a place to bed down. It was clean, had a nice TV, and a nice bathroom space for the money, ~$100 after tax. Breakfast the next morning was continental style. Not the best breakfast I've ever had but it sufficed and helped us get on our way the next morning. The owners have done a wonderful job fixing up and restoring this historic house. The B&B and motel are on a quiet backstreet so there is very little noise from traffic or any other sources.

Room Tip: The motel gives a nice amount of privacy but the room furnishings are nothing special. We imagine th...

We needed a place to stay to begin our trip around the Cabot trail, looked on tripadvisor and found Harbourview B&B. We stayed for one night in the house in a large room with two beds. Not sure about the motels as we did not stay in them, but I would expect the same great experience. The B&B is a refurbished period home and is exactly what you want out of a B&B. In fact I have nothing bad to say about the entire experience, the beds were very comfortable and clean, same goes for the bathroom. The host's are very kind and easy to talk to. And let me tell you about the breakfast; perfect! We had an amazing adventure around the cabot trail and again needed a cozy place to stay on our return, and it was a no-brainer. Same great room same great price same great food and hospitality. I would highly recommend Harbourview B&B over and over again.

Spent 3 days here, a really friendly family run motel/B+B, great value and wonderful service. we stayed in the motel rooms, all newly refurbed. Great hosts, a really good home cooked breakfast. Location by the harbour, a railway nearby, but just more fun as the infrequent trains pass. Near enough to the town to use the restaurants and shops, particularly if you have a car.

Free wi-fi, a little slow, but fine for email , surfing etc.

Highly recommended, with a very competitive price for this region.

We had a very nice overnight stay in one of their motel rooms. Pros: Very clean, comfortable bed, some water views, great breakfast and warm hosts (the Spencers) in lovely old home on the water. Cons: small kitchenette but not stocked with any cups, utensils, etc. Railroad runs behind this location but we did not hear a train until 9 AM. A very good value for a quick stay on Cape Breton.

located only steps from the operational wharf. Good for people how like the maritime atmosphere and looking at boats / ships. Quiet during nite time. 6 Motel units and a few B&B-rooms in an historic house. Breakfast was for ALL (B&B + Motel) in a large dining room. Tenant always brought new food / tea / coffee. Friedly staff & conversations with other guests.
Seperat guest laundry ($2 each washing/drying). Motel units include kitchenette (sink, Microwave, fridge), no cutlery / plates / glases though!
Few blocks to walk into uptown, nice uphill stroll.
