There is nothing special about the China King Buffet. It is like probably ten thousand other Chinese establishments located throughout the United States and Canada - a small buffet table or two, decent food, little or no ambiance. But if a traveler finds himself in Port Hawkesbury and chooses to go one step beyond the local Subway, the CK offers a filling meal at a fairly decent price. One will not go wrong eating there. Indeed the evening we were at the restaurant, we saw a good many local residents and their families enjoying themselves. They probably are more knowledgeable about the "where" to eat in the city that tourists such as us.

Self proclaimed as the best buffet in town... we went to the China King for Supper. The buffet had about 20 items to choose from, only 3 which had vegetables in them. Two dishes were fried wontons and fried wontons with honey, neither had any meat in them, just fried wontons, no pork inside. The chicken balls were dry, the chicken in the rice etc tasted like it has been frozen for some time. Most of the food was bland except a noodle dish which was very hot due to a LOT of pepper, and the wonton soup ( with pork inside) was good. The meal itself was $12.99, but did not include dessert, and you were required to purchase a drink. The service was the same as any other buffet style, however there were notices under the table glass advising you to bring you payment - including tip to the cashier. Now I sometimes will tip at all you can eat when the servers are excellent and on their game, however, If you seat yourself, get your own meal and go to the cashier for payment... what is there to tip for? bringing the pop I had to pay extra for? The restaurant is at the rear of a pub and has simply had the section taken from the pub with no real changes except for the walls and paint, so no real atmosphere.... they even pipe in music from a local radio station... hardly a Chinese feel, unless the "Go-Go's" were Chinese. I struggle at giving a 2 rating, however it could have been worse I guess. Try the other Chinese restaurant in town, the have been there for years, we should have tried there, but now we know.
