The Oakwood Inn is such a lovely setting but it is getting very tired looking. We paid $300 for a suite - nothing wonderful. The cement patio looked like it had never been cleaned this season. There were cobwebs all over the railing and the soffit above was a "yucky" looking. For the price it was quite disappointing.
On the positive side - breakfast buffet was quite good and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We came here from Toronto with another couple for two nights for some R and R . We ate dinner at the restaurant patio overlooking the golf course. service and food were excellent and prices were reasonable. Rooms were large and well equipped with a fridge. Bathroom Soaps and shampoos, etc were a big disappointment. The room was adequately cleaned (spots were a little dusty) but on the balcony we found alot of cobwebs and an ashtray brimming over with dirty cigarette butts. The air conditioning was not working properly and on the second day, stopped completely. I called reception at 6pm to report it and requested it be fixed. We went out for dinner and returned at ten pm.... Still not fixed and it was super hot in the room. I called and finally someone came up and fixed the problem.

Room Tip: We chose a quiet room with a view on the far side away from the restaurants.

Stayed at the Resort July 15-18th Tues-Fri. We have been coming to Oakwood for many years,
first with children and now grandchildren. The resort is better than ever before, they have grown
and matured with great elegance. Still has the "old woodsy resort feel" with all the modern
conveniences. Loved the salt water pool, one morning we had the pool all to ourselves. Stayed
in the main lodge, the beds were so comfortable-a real treat. The breakfast buffet met our expectations and the kids loved the pancakes, french toast and the fruit loops (allowed only on vacation). Dave's Pub and Grill was a great place for lunch and dinner, if you don't want a buffet
for dinner (kids eat free). Kids loved doing crafts and marshmellow treats with Hannah this is a great service Oakwood provides. Thanks Hannah!
Oakwood considers all visitors important-kids, golfers and beach goers.
The Staff at ever level were terrific. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Main Lodge was "No Smoking" Loved it!

We stayed at the Oakwood Resort for the weekend of July 11-13, 2014 and I would say that it was worth the money spent on the resort itself. The $5.00 breakfast daily is excellent complete with all what you need in a buffet breakfast. The resort has an 18 hole golf course which I would consider challenging and worth the green fee. The rooms are excellent, clean and tidy. Depending on the lodge you choose, there are about 3 or 4 different theme lodge. The one we stayed had a gazebo and has a golf course view. The staff are very friendly. Overall, we're coming back next year.

Room Tip: the beach is a five minute walk from the back of the hotel.

Our office PD Day this year was at Oakwood Resort. This is the second time we held our office PD Day at Oakwood. The service, room and food was great. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Great location for any event. We had access to the pool, hot tub. The executive cottage was awesome. Staff had a great time at this resort.

Family and I spent 4 days at Oakwood Resorts. This resort is approx 15 mins walk from Main Street and Grand Bend public beach. Set on a golf course the main building is recently updated, however, many of the accomodation rooms are in older building that need to be attended too. Many of ther rooms have balconies and we upgraded to a "deluxe room" - however, found no difference in our room to a standard room. The staff and workers on the property are all pleasant and hardworking. Room cleaning is done in the afternoon, so do not be suprised to come back to your room at lunch and its not completed. We did notice that bedding and sheets and the general cleaniness of the bathrooms was below par. Soap stains remain on counter-tops, towels are re-folded and not replaced.
The food both at buffet and Clubhouse were good. The selection of food at the buffet is varied and tasty. The morning coffee, however, is weak and a better suggestion is to drive to the local Tim Hortons. The "private" beach is shared with a gated local residential community and is approx 5 mins walk from the property. The golf course is average and the driving range a 2 mins drive away from the property on the other side of the road. Note - on Tuesday after 1pm the golfing is only $12 (however - in the summer this may not be a good idea).
Overall - Oakwood Resorts is a good location, however, it left one to feel something missing and just not complete. Looking for a quick break away from the city (it's approx 2 hr 15 mins from Mississauga), its a great place to visit. The beach has miles of soft, clean sand and the shores extend into Lake Huron for some distance.

We had a suite with the best (and biggest) jacuzzi we've ever seen anywhere, a huge bathroom with loads and loads of towels, a comfortable bed, and a separate sitting area with a small bar/frig setup. For sleeping, the suite was dark and quiet, which for a couple of stressed out GTAers is like a gift from on high. The dining room and pub serve excellent food. The ambience is classic 20th century, with mature trees everywhere. It's a two minute walk down a private lane to one of the nicest beaches on this part of Lake Huron.

Rain and injuries kept us off of the golf course this trip but it looks nice. If you are looking for a lesson, Colin Scatcherd is a first rate instructor.

Quibbles: plastic glasses in the rooms, clumpy wi-fi, unimaginative breakfast buffet, and the fitness room should either be fixed up or closed.

We loved it, and we're going back on Labour Day.

Thank you for your review, we are glad that overall you enjoyed your stay with us. I have passed your comments on to management regarding the WiFi and the fitness centre so we can look into these further. We do use plastic cups in our room as it then allows our guests to take them with them on the Resort. If a plastic cup is dropped we do not have to worry about injuries as many guests do go from area to area in only flip flops or occasionally with no shoes at all.
