“Blessed again”
Reviewed 3 April 2013

We travelled in Dominica again after months of debate; have a completely new adventure, or go back to beautiful Dominica. I'm so happy we returned, we had such a great time. This time we stayed in Calibishie during the middle of our trip in March. After an expensive, yet bumpy guest experience at another eco-lodging, we returned to Calibishie Cove. All five nights in the Sea View room were perfect. For the rates, Calibishie Cove is worth it! There is so much added value in the welcoming staff, a great breakfast every day, a cell phone for calling on the island. There is almost always a staff member available to answer questions. For many frequently asked questions, the owners have compiled a handy booklet for each room so you can familiarize yourself with Calibishie Cove, the neighborhood, and nearby attractions. So helpful.
For us, staying in the Sea View room again was like home. That might sound silly, but we had such a relaxing and amazing visit last year that we couldn't wait to get back. The sounds of the surf hitting the reef, the rock doves cooing in the morning, and the tree frogs chirping us to sleep at night, one can't help but fall in love with the place. We spent a lot of time talking with locals and some funny characters. People are really quite nice here, and are proud of their home.
There were of course relaxing hours spent on our private patio facing the bay, but there is just so much to do that you'll want to get out and about. The snorkeling is great and beaches nearby are so gorgeous, and not busy. In nearby Hodges bay I saw a seahorse, turtle, lobster, stingray, and of course all the amazing fish. Chaudierre Pool, Batibou and Hampstead beaches and visits to the Red Rocks and the Escape Beach Bar were favorite outings. We were PADI open water certified at Cabrits Dive Centre in nearby Portsmouth , which I highly recommend if you are thinking about it, and also did some nice diving in the south.
What ever activities bring you to this breathtaking island, or to beautiful Calibishie in particular, you will feel blessed staying at Calibishie Cove.

Room Tip: We loved the sea view room for its views and hammock hangout area.

My wife and I stayed at Calibishie Cove for 10 days in March 2013. We stayed in the cheapest of their rooms the Garden View, which still had views of the sea. They have a beach that is located at the end of step path (10 minutes walk), which is rugged and beautiful and safe for swimming. Our room was well equipped with a huge walk in shower big enough for 2! The room was very spacious plus we had a huge balcony were we ate our meals. The balcony was also useful for drying out our clothes (the rain forest is so named for good reason!) The staff were excellent especially Arl who was always ready to answer questions and offer advice, plus he is an amazing cook, his goat curry and grilled tuna especially so. Other local restaurants were Poz, run by the very sociable Troy and Liz, Escape bar (very nice for evening cocktail on the beach, and Coral Reef (traditional Creole). They were all excellent although Escape is more of bar than a restaurant we thought. The real star of our holiday was the island of Dominica and its people, it is simple amazing, and I’ve never met such friendly people in all my travels. Everyone we met was willing to help, talk and explain things to us. We travelled the length and breadth of Dominica in our 10 days, the only thing I would say is that it would useful to split your stay into a north and south location, due to driving times! To drive from Calibishie to Scots Head for instance will take you over 3 hours, even though its only around 23 miles as the crow flys! Make sure you buy Paul Crasks guide to Dominica as well, we found it essential.
Dominica is a truly beautiful place, if you want a holiday, that’s off the beaten track, full of waterfalls you can swim in, jungles you can walk through, and beaches to explore, this is the place for you.

This place and the island of Dominica are amazing. The natural beauty of the island is amazing. The Calibishie Cove is set high atop a hill with an amazing view of the ocean and the surrounding hills. It's a short walk to the beach where a fresh water river meets the sea. You have the best of both fresh water or salt water. The locals were so friendly and there is no begging or bothering you to buy things. Unlike most locations around the world. If you want to enjoy true nature and friendly people then make it a point to go. I want to put out a special thank you to Arl and the whole staff for making our trip amazing. You guys are the best. Thanks again for the beach party with your family and friends. Hope to see you soon.

Room Tip: If you can swing the extra expense the Paradise Penthouse is well worth it.

I researched this trip like my second job! Read up on many, many properties. We traveled all over the island, and stayed in 3 places. You will not be disappointed with Calibishe Cove! Beautiful, comfortable rooms. Amazing views. We stayed in Garden View 1 night, then Seaview room for 2. We preferred the Seaview room. Bigger, more private. Hazel was out of the country during our stay, but Arl is the best! He works very hard to make sure the guests are happy. ...and what a cook! We had delicious , fresh breakfasts and amazing dinners on our private balcony. Doesn't get any better than that! Arl hand picks the fruits he uses everyday. We were provided with snorkel equipment, great suggestions for exploring, and of course, the spot - on recommendation to have Jenner Robinson as our driver, guide for a few days. His contact information is : jenna23dm@ yahoo.com. He is THE man to really show you Dominica. Calibishe Cove is an excellent location for exploring the North side of the island. We went to La Chaudiere pool, Spanny Falls, Emerald Pool, Indian River and Portsmouth, Cabrits, Point Baptiste and Red Rocks, and Carib Territory, while staying at Calibishe Cove. It was always nice to come back to the beautiful room, relax with a cocktail on our deck, over- looking the gorgeous sea. What a value for luxurious accommodations Stay here, you will not regret it.

Room Tip: Seaview or Penthouse.

Our experience of Calibishie Cove started before we even set foot in Dominica. Dwayne gave us invaluable advice in planning an itinerary with one of the best guides on the island, Jenner Robinson. We arrived quite late at night to be greeted by Arl who had made us a fantastic fresh Tuna dinner which remains the best meal we had on the island. We were made to feel very welcome and this was redoubled in the morning when we met Hazel.

We stayed on the Penthouse suite on the top floor which is beautiful. The view of the coastline from the veranda (complete with plunge pool) must be one of the finest in Dominica. We only stayed a couple of nights but some of the things we managed to see were Chaudiere Pool, the gorgeous Batibou Beach and the red rocks at Pointe Baptiste just around the corner (another great view of the coastline from here).

I really can't fault our stay at Calibishie Cove. Fantastic friendly, welcoming staff, great food, a beautiful room and a stunning view make for a superb base when visiting the North of this remarkable island.

We just returned from a week long honeymoon in Dominica. Stayed in the Penthouse on the top of Calibeshi Cove. It was a wonderful stay and the room was truly spectacular, large and comfortable, with a wrap-around balcony and views straight out to the azure Caribbean. Arl Robinson met us and was a great host for the entire week. We went out with Arl on several trips around the island where he showed us: a roadside place where we purchased (and we all ate) cassava bread (hot, sweet, delicious), the Kalinaga Territory, Emerald Pool (water cold and delightful, we each splashed around, the fifty foot falls tumbling onto our heads). Arl knows a lot of folks and he is a knowledgable guide. Several notes: Dominica is a real rain forest and hikes are mostly for serious hikers. If the book says moderate, that means the hike is moderate for hikers, not non-hikers. We hit a trail from Pennville to Capuchin that was listed as "easy" but was anything but. It took us four hours of strenuous walking, not the listed three. Arl came looking for us, I must admit, but we were almost there by the time he came looking from the opposite end. Also, the wind on the north side of the island is usually very strong, so be prepared for wind. We had several great dinners prepared by Arl and the overall experience was just wonderful. Very quiet, which is what we were seeking. Only one small complaint: the soaking pool on the balcony stays very cold - Hazel the manager said they were working on that. Go have a drink and dinner at POZ, just up the road. Quite a hoot, and good to boot.

Room Tip: The Penthouse is well worth the extra money due to size and vista, and it has a full kitchen. The t...

My first visit to Calibishie Cove has been wonderful, in fact I'm writing this review with two nights to go before returning back to Tortola.. The rooms are wonderful and the hosts Hazel and Arl are exceptional when it comes to customer service. If you want to know where to visit and have it arranged for you, look no further than Arl.
The breezy aurora around the property during our stay has been a much needed distraction from the heat usually experienced in the Caribbean, but I'm told in a few months the hot sun will take over for those of you who enjoy relaxing and hoping for a tan. Calibishie Cove offers the opportunity to rest or a base to be much more adventurous.
