“Kite boarding”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2009

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Atti this past January. Upon our arrival, we had to search for Oliver, the Hotel Manager. However, it was New Year's Eve and after asking around for 5 minutes we eventually tracked him down. We had booked a luxury room in the newer building and were quite happy. The room was clean and they changed the sheets a couple of times during the week. We were really impressed with the morning buffet, complete with lots of fresh juices and fruits. The evening menu is very good if you like meat; but if you prefer fish, there are other places in town. We also enjoyed the swimming pool shaded by a tropical garden, especially on the warmer days. One thing we were not too pleased with was the unpleasant odor always present around the pool. I believe the source was trash from an adjacent property, therefore it is not really Atti's fault; nevertheless, it was still an issue. This being said, I would not hesitate in returning, and would recommend spending the extra $10/day for the nicer room.

I have stayed a number of times at this hotel and always found the staff helpful and friendly. The rooms are simply furnished, very clean with relatively quiet but very effective air conditioning units and a small fridge. The beds are large and comfortable and the cotton sheets changed every couple of days. If there is a problem with the room, for example a light bulb fails, the helpful manager, Oliver, sorts it out in no time. The staff have all been there for years and there is an excellent atmosphere throughout.

Apart from the quiet comfort, I return year after year for the breakfasts. I love the assortment of fresh tropical fruits - banana, papaya, pineapple, melon, watermelon, passion fruits and when in season, mango - delicious topped with plain yoghurt. These are also made into fruit drinks, normally an choice of three or four. Then there are also cereals, a cheese and meat platter and one hot dish, either an omelette, scrambled or hard boiled eggs, empanadas or cheesy things. The newest innovation this year was a waffle maker and this is great, but so popular that one often has to wait for it to become free.

El Yaque is primarily a place for windsurfing and kite-surfing and the wind blows rather too strongly on the beach to be comfortable for sun bathing. It is more like sand blasting! The pool at Atti's is perfect for resting after a hard day on the water and for those surf-widows to perfect their tan.

It is great. The best in El Yaque and I haven't even mentioned the steaks. The restaurant is excellent and so popular that the service does get a bit slow later in the evening. I always get there early and enjoy the impressive sunset from the highest point of El Yaque.

I have stayed at Hotel Atti for the past 4 years and each time I have found it a very positive experience. It is comfortable and good value and has a wonderful view down to the sea - a perfect place to check the wind in the morning at breakfast. It is a 5 minute walk to the beach, far enough away to be quiet, but no distance to get there with your water sports equipment.

The rooms are simply furnished and comfortable enough, with effective air conditioning. They are clean and the linen changed regularly. The drainage is delicate and needs to be treated with respect, but it all works and the solar heated water is mostly amazingly hot.

The breakfast is a buffet arrangement with a good choice of cereals, yoghurt, breads, and lots of tropical fruits. Also there are cooked meats, and eggs, sometimes omelette, sometimes boiled. And there is a waffle maker - very popular and a tasty addition.

The pool is set in a well kept and very pleasant garden and the pool is clean and and big enough to enjoy a leisurely swim. The palm trees and other tropical plants attract colourful birds and also iguanas, gekoes, and lizards. It is a nice place for a rest after windsurfing or kitesurfing.

The restaurant has quite a wide menu, and offers what must be the best steaks in El Yaque. They are the best I have ever tasted anywhre in fact, and the rooftop views are often quite stunning with beautiful sunsets, and vistas to the mountains of mainland Venezuela.

The management is friendly and very efficient. Lots of advice on local information, and a valiant attempt at forecasting the winds even. Anything not working is sorted out quickly and without a problem. All the staff are friendly and seem to be happy there.

In summary for me it is the best hotel option in El Yaque - relaxed, friendly atmosphere, very nice staff and good food, comfortable and good value.

[08/09/2008 13:03:36] Christopher Burke says: When I go to El Yaque it is to windsurf.
For me Hotel Atti offers the perfect balance to a hectic day on the water. Comfortable, quiet friendly it enables me to relax my aching muscles in the only decent pool in the village yet still gives me easy access to the beach. Situated on the highest point in town there is no better spot than to watch the sunset.
At night the restaurant fills with sailors from all parts of the earth. Many of them come from other hotels and why? – Attis has the best food in town.
A visitor to Yaque for over 15 years, I migrated to Attis over 10 years ago. It is by far the best place in town.

well i saw a review saying that this hotel was a good option in el yaque, so i looked at the webpage and i was like WOW...then i called and asked for prices and made reservations directly with the manager Oliver Smith. who seemed very nice on the phone. when we got there there was noone to greet us we had to ask a person who was watering the plants if there was anyone in the reception. he went upstairs and came down with a key to our room...noone EVER asked us if we were ok or greet us in any formal way we just read the info inside the room stated the breakfats time frame. the rooms were run down and the drains didnt work properly. we went for breakfast in the morning and it was pretty bellow average boiled eggs and make it yourself waffels with sugar not even syrup!!! and finally Oliver smith appeared teh night before we had to leave and stated that he would be there on sunday ... only to charge for the room... also the day we had to leave . (checkout is at noon) teh manager kindda walked around the pool like he was making sure we were not going to leave without paying...while we were just enjoying the last remaining hours of our vacation ..but i guess since there is never anyone at the reception it has happend before ??? who knowss....also maybe it was just that we were not from england or germany (the main source of tourist staying at the hotel) but we were plain Venezuelands he dint feel inclined to be hospitable...it was overall an pretty bellow average for me...

Returned to Hotel Atti this year - gardens have had a lot of work and looking nice - rooms + restaurant need updating as starting to look tired and very basic. Stayed in new comfort room this year and despite being more expensive was well worth it - much bigger and bathroom much more modern. I still like being away from the beach action too, although it is 5/10 mins walk up the hill away from the beach, but that is a personal thing - others in our group much prefer a beachfront location.

Beware of virus currently in air/water Margarita (whole Island, not just El Yaque). Very bad sickness etc and lasted almost all the holiday - about 50% of people have been gettting this there since Dec07 - spoiled holiday a bit. Also, Margarita getting sooo busy now on water and in restaurants - long wait for meals (Atti included) and water v.busy. New roads being built and new building everywhere - hope they build some infrastructure in to cope with the extra bods.

Lovely hol though and El Yaque has special relaxed vibe but not everyone's cup of tea - a def no for non-windsurfers, or those who love their food and nice restaurants or luxury hotels. We will be back though!

  • Liked — Peaceful and clean with pool and lovely garden and lovely staff
  • Disliked — Needs updating (rooms and restaurant) + bar needs better stocking
