We stayed two nights in one of the Lotus Villas. We were very impressed with how well equipped the unit was in terms of necessities & beautifully furnished. The spa bath was wonderful to use & there were loads of towels. Big enough for two the bath was lovely on a chilly autumnal evening with a glass of their wine (or two).
The wine tasting on the Saturday afternoon was informative, fun & not rushed. It's obvious that wine is appreciated & respected in addition to being wonderfully crafted.
Dinner in the restaurant was lovely with delicious food & competent, friendly service.
From beginning to end we enjoyed our weekend at this lovely estate & will be recommending it to others.
Thanks to Heather, Kevin, Dean & the rest of the team. From my first contact with Heather to the chat with Kevin & Dean as we were checked out, it was a great experience.

We went on Friday 20th April to celebrate our 44th Wedding Anniversary. On arrival we were met by friendly staff, the restaurant was warm and inviting. The menu had great selections to choose from, we went for the home made bread, baked on the premises, it was hot, with a crusty outer. This was served with a very tasty olive oil with balsamic and a dukkah to dip into.
For our main we decided on the Eye Fillet wrapped in prosciutto, cooked to perfection, served with soft fluffy smoked bacon, onion and potato Rosti, broccolini, and crisp parsnip ribbons, sauce was a very delicious Red Wine Jus. Sides were, Asparagus with chilli and parmesan, the serves were very generous.
We shared the dessert a yummy Roasted Panna Cotta with Kaffir Lime Leaf ice-cream, full flavoured, smooth, delicate. we should have had one each. The waiter suggested the 2009 Estate merlot, it was an excellent wine.
The restaurant was full but the noise was minimal, so you could have a conversation. Overall an excellent night all round. Well done to the Chefs and waiting staff. We will be back, next time maybe a lunch, to take advantage of the views.

We have stayed for two nights with family and friends and everyone left fully satisfied with the axperience. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the accommodation came with a very generous breakfast. We have eaten several times in the restaurant and the food was beautifully presented and very tasty. The homestead and the Merlot cottage is unique and well presented and the villas are modern, spacious and comfortable.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

We stayed here as a couple as part of my birthday gift for 2 nights in Feb 2012 in the Merlot cottage. This was well appointed, with a comfortable bed, spacious lounge area, and decent kitchen facilities. As part of the package we were given a bottle of wine and some chocolates and biscuits on arrival - however, upon checking the documentation we were given on arrival all we found were a load of tourist brochures and nothing telling us about the included wine tasting - ie when, where, etc. We had to ask - which I think was not good service given this was included in the price. The whole time we were there we didn't really feel made particularly welcome by management.

We were also amazed that nothing was provided to us when we checked in telling us about the wines of the estate or anything at all about the winery. We had no idea whether a winery tour was available - why not tell guests about the activities available? Why would the winery omit to market its own winery to guests is beyond us given they had a perfect opportunity given we were staying on site?!

The breakfast provisions were ample - I would have liked some fresh fruit however and some freshly squeezed orange juice.

The heated towel rails in the bathroom were a nice touch as were the very fluffy towels. The accommodation was let down a little by the fact that lighglobes in the bathroom over the mirror and in the lounge had blown, the sound on the TV kept ducking in and out on certain channels, and the clock in the kitchen did not work. I feel these things could easily have been checked particularly light globes. In addition, whilst there was a reasonable selection of teas on offer, there was no decaf coffee, nor hot chocolate provided and only long life milk which was disappointing.

Whilst we liked the accommodation well enough, even though its proximity to the busy Warburton Highway made it a little noisy, particularly at night we did not like the restaurant at all. Simply terrible service. We went to dinner in the Rustic Charm Restaurant our first night - and this was a huge disappointment. The service was so bad we cannot recommend the restaurant. For example after 15 minutes of sitting at our table with no menus brought, no offer of drinks or anything, even though waitresses kept passing our table to attend to other tables and ignoring our signals that we would like attention, my husband had to go and ask a waitress if we could get service please. Eventually we were served and apologies made and promises of better service but this did not eventuate. Each time we were served the waitresses (we had three different ones during the evening) were either rather offhand or alternatively friendly but full of lame excuses as to why they kept leaving us with no drinks, no food, no service. In the end the manager, Dean, gave us our main meal and drinks for free given that the service was so bad. We had to wait 45 minutes for our main course with no apology for the delay until we asked when the meals might be ready. The food was quite appealing, although rather rich, but was pricey and not really worth it given the poor service. They had already run out of duck when we got there - and the descriptions on the menu of the other food did not really quite match what we got. For example the menu spoke of "crustry bread" with the soup, Instead, two rather soft small bread portions. I made a small change to my lamb dish, and discovered they removed another item on that particular dish as well for no reason I could see when the meal came.

We had considered eating there again for Sunday lunch carvery, but after the experience of the first night, we decided not to bother.

All in all the accommodation is of a reasonably high standard - but it is pot luck in the restaurant - I would say don't bother. The Home Hotel in Launching Place is a much better dining experience.

Room Tip: as far as possible from the Highway

My wife and I stayed here for one night on the start of our drive on the Great Ocean Road. This is where we decided to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. It was perfect. Our room, one of the Lotus Villas, was fantastic with a great view of the pond and vineyard. It was well stocked too with enough breakfast provisions to see us past our one night stay. Our wine tasting in the Cellar Door with Dean was a treat. Coming from a guy that doesn't know or care that much about wine, he had us in stitches and I feel like I learned something. Our meal that night in the restaraunt was fabulous. I had the risotto and loved it. The wait staff seemed to know and care about what they were serving. Finally, the morning we departed we were treated to a lovely conversation with Kevin and Heather who helped us with local tips and suggestions for our week long road trip. All in all, Wild Cattle Creek was the best stay of our trip.

What a fantastic experience, perfect hosts, they couldn't do enough to help us with travel questions etc. Beautiful lotus suite which was well stocked with provisions for breakfast and refreshments. Lovely bathroom suite with plenty of space and a really superb 2 person jacuzzi bath. The bed was also luxurious, spacious and very comfortable, it meant for a great nights sleep. Dean gave a fantastic cellar door tour, maybe for the full tour some simple wine appropriate snacks would be nice, as 12 tastes is quite alot. Phew. But very informative. food was fresh, tasty and simple. We really enjoyed everything!
