“Beautiful! A very relaxing getaway.”
Reviewed 14 April 2012

Our stay at Azjure during April 2012 was amazing. Perfect location to explore the surrounding wineries and national parks, beautiful surroundings and room finishes, well equipped kitchen to allow you to enjoy the local produce. We found our room to be very clean and well maintained, with high quality kitchenware and appliances. The veranda was the perfect location to sit and enjoy the complimentary breakfast, and relax with some wine in the evenings.

Our time on the Granite Belt was one of the most enjoyable and relaxing holidays we have had, and we would definitely stay at Azjure again next time we visit.

I don't need many words to explain the 2 nights we stayed at this beautiful retreat - absolutely outstanding! From the minute we arrived on 3 March 2012 to the minute we left, everything was exceptional. Cost slightly more than some of our previous trips in Australia but worth every dollar. The views are stunning, the local wildlife was amazing - lots of kangaroos. We were so chilled out as we had everything we needed in the retreat. We visited some of the local wineries & fresh food stores before arriving and spent our time relaxing. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you.

We stayed at Azjure in November 2011 and had a wonderful couple of nights. The owners Cathryn and Ross were extremely friendly and hospitable, and made sure that everything was taken care of. From the booking in at reception, to the time to leave again, our experience was wonderful..The fridge was stocked with breakfast supplies that were plenty for two, and the units were spotless and very inviting with a lovely aroma of insence burning to create a lovely intimate atmosphere..We spent a whole day visiting the local wineries and bought a good supply of lovely wines. Cathryn was very helpful and knowledgeable with things to do in the area, as we havent been out to Ballandean before. We are saving up for another weekend and will definately go back as this is the most peaceful lovely place to unwind and de-stress. We stayed in Unit 2 and it was totally private from the others and will always hold a special place for us.

This place is absolutely beautiful... It's not 5 star hotel with room service style, but thats part of what makes it so amazing.
With only a few bungalows, each facing out to a plain, provides absolute privacy. The design of the bungalows, including a massive bathroom and bath, a kitchen you could use everyday, a comfy bed all makes it so special.
The place is super quiet - someone here whined about the distant sound of a b-double occasionally... Well when you're in the country with only farms surrounding you, a loud noise 2km will be heard... It's called reality! But seriously, if you can hear a truck, you've got damn good hearing!

I haven't been back to Ballandean/Stanthorpe again since, but I wouldn't even bother looking at any other accommodation next time - this is hands down the best place you will find for a romantic getaway in wine country!!

Overall a fine weekend away at Azjure.
A couple of points however that were disappointing.
Fire place advsertised as a feature of the resort however no fire wood for the fire as we were not yet in Winter, we didnt recall seeing any stipulation of this on the web site. Temps were around mid teens at night would have been nice.
Continental Breakfast under stocked, 2 Crossaints for 2 people for 2 days, small loaf of bread was OK, cereals etc ....
Given the nightly rate we paid was a tad rude to instruct to pack dishwasher, wash BBQ hotplate prior to departing. If the rate was cheaper then this would have been ok.
overall was an nice visit with a few little oversights. The place is up for sale as we found out and the attention to detail on the building, plenty of cob webs, and the rendered blue board walls are cracking at the joints all gave an impression of slight decline in apperances.
At times the road traffic from the New England Highway was a little loud when B Doubles would roll by, but wanst all the time though.

With all this noted still was an OK weekend away, the staff are lovely and many more will enjoy.

DrRoscoe, Owner at Azjure Studio Retreat, responded to this review, 4 April 2012
We thank jjw072 for taking the time to post a review. We’re pleased that overall they enjoyed “a fine weekend away at azjure”.

Being Australia’s most highly awarded couples accommodation we strive to make the azjure experience 100% perfect for every guest, so we’re sorry that some points didn’t meet their expectations. As all the other TripAdvisor reviews show, azjure has an excellent track record of meeting and exceeding guests’ expectations, and we’re glad to receive feedback to help us maintain those standards.

As this is the first review that isn’t “Excellent”, and the first to contain any negative comments, we thought we would respond at some length. We hope that our response will help people appreciate why we do some things the way we do, and also how hard we try to ensure every guest has a wonderful experience at azjure.

A log fire provides a delightful ambience, but unfortunately it also carries a heavy environmental cost in terms of carbon emissions. azjure was designed from the ground up for environmental sustainability, so we try to minimise azjure’s carbon footprint by providing firewood only in the cooler months, when overnight temperatures drop to low single figures or below. The studios are fully insulated and feature leading edge passive solar design, so outside those cooler months no additional heating is required. When these guests stayed in March, with overnight temperatures in the teens, they would actually have had to run the air conditioning on cold to counter the fire! The website states on the Studios page that the log fire is for winter evenings, but given these comments we will change it to make that even clearer.

We’re sorry that these guests didn’t find the exterior of their studio to be perfect in every way, as we go to great lengths to see that the studios are immaculate and well maintained. Indeed, one of the reasons azjure has won so many State and National awards is that we do place such emphasis on attention to detail. We sweep every studio for cobwebs before every guest arrives, so we apologise if we missed some. We will redouble our efforts in this regard, and can certainly assure everyone that there is no “slight decline”!

We’re also sorry that these guests were offended by our request to run the dishwasher prior to leaving. We have no intention of being rude. These requests are solely so that we can get the studios perfect in time for incoming guests, and is definitely not related to the rate charged.

Being over two kilometres away from the road azjure is very quiet, and traffic noise is not an issue. Occasionally a temperature inversion will allow a little traffic noise to be heard even several kilometres away from the road, but this is rare.

Finally, it’s a pity that these guests didn’t find the breakfast supplies to be adequate. Feedback from the over 1,000 couples who have stayed at azjure has consistently been that the breakfast supplies are more than sufficient, but we will certainly review the offering.

We thank jjw072 again for their comments.

I'm not sure what to say that others haven't already! This place is a must when visiting Stanthorpe and surrounds. Simply amazing!! Apart from the wonderful studio apartment being incredibly comfortable and private, we loved the small touches that made it extra special. The hosts Cathryn and Ross have thought of everything. We took a Full Day wine tour with Filipos on the Saturday and were greeted by the most informative and helpful tour guide, Tony. We were picked up from right out the front of our Studio and treated to a number of beautiful wineries and places of interest. What a great day we had and to return to our Studio was just the most wonderful end to the day! Please do yourself a favor and book a stay at Azjure. You will not be disappointed!!!!!!

Our plan was to enjoy the 3 hour drive from Brisbane to Azjure and pick up some wine on the way for dinner. Unfortunately the floods and landslips in December 2010 meant all roads were closed. We made a frantic call to our hosts who quickly stepped in to find an alternative route and kept us updated as we set off to drive the long way round. Eventually we arrived after a much less enjoyable trip than we planned.

Again our hosts took charge and sent us off to our cabin with instructions to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine in the enormous spa bath with a view. Paper work could be done in the morning. We quickly started to relax and after a few days of the luxury of Azjure and the delightful scenery of the surrounding Granite Belt region, the trip became a distant memory.

This is quality accomodation in a beautiful region. The owners have the formula just right for couples looking for the outdoors ambience with all of the comforts you could need. You can just relax in your cabin and watch the wildlife on the lawn. If you feel a bit more energetic try bushwalking in the national parks or explore the country roads to discover some decent wineries.

Room Tip: All cabins take advantage of the magnificent view.
