My friend booked this place, the cottages are cute and clean, but very noisy road. No kitchen or sink for food use, unusual.
We ate in the restaurant which was good. Cost fireplace in the main lounge too, but none in the cottages.
Accom and food are expensive too

Our previous stay at the Vineyard Cottages was a couple of years ago. Last week we had the pleasure of returning for 2 nights. Thank you to John and Penny for their lasting hospitality and quality accommodation: the cosy cottage surrounded by the landscaped gardens together with the food, and of course fab wines, is what makes such a stay memorable - for the right reasons!

Being lovers of great food & wine my wife & I decided to call in for lunch @ the Vineyard Cafe after reading the reviews and having it recommended by 2 local winery staff.

Wow!. This was probably one of the best lunches we have had for some time. The quality of our meals was equal to some of our favourite places in Brisbane. Risotto, pumpkin ravioli with burnt sage butter, made fresh and cooked perfectly, especially with a glass of local Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. The side salad of beetroot, goats cheese, red onion, pear and the homemade bread were outstanding. The service was friendly & efficient. Highly recommended if you want food that is fresh and made with love.

We had also driven past the cottages about ten years ago and last month were looking for a place to stay close to Ballendean Estate (went there for dinner). The actual cabins are exceptionally spotlessly clean, cosy and incredibly romantic however, the property is right on the highway on an elbow bend in the road so the peaceful sleep in listening to nature is kind of spoilt by traffic ( in particular trucks booming past).

Our breakie was the most disappointing as well. We were asked if we wanted to pay extra for breakie up front and was happy to pay (expecting a cooked breakie) but when we turned up to the breakfast room, it was a cereal and toast/jam affair. I felt a bit tricked for the money we payed for it and it wrecked our day as I had to fill up on toast And i ended up feeling sick and bloated. If we were told that it was only a continental breakfast, we would have happily past it up and worked out somewhere else to eat.

In my opinion, not worth the money and there are other places around for the same price that are more peaceful and are upfront about there catering provisions.

Organised a wine tasting trip to the Stanthorpe area over a weekend with a couple of friends. We did all the bookings on line and on Friday night arrives at the Vineyard Cottages and Cafe in Ballandean. The reception was so warm and welcoming with the Penny showing us to the Cottage personally and giving the guided tour of the facilities. The gardens and general surroundings are so beautiful that one couldn't help but relay and let the tweeting of the many birds take the stresses away. We stayed for two nights and were treated to great breakfasts. On the Saturday night we ate at "cafe" and were served fantastic food from an gourmet menu. The meal was exceptional from start to finish. John has put together a cellar of tremendous local wines and has an in-depth knowledge of how they fit with the dishes on the menu.
Would not consider staying anywhere else when visiting this region.

Ideally situated amongst the Granite Belt vineyards south of Stanthorpe, around Ballandean, the Vineyard Cafe is a top lunch choice. We wanted to show the area at its best to our friends and opted for the Vineyard Cafe to see whether it had retained its former standard since the new owners took over 2 or 3 years ago. We were not disappointed!! Our main courses were all different and all received high praise. My Baramundi with a walnut etc crust on a bed of cauliflower puree was a perfect combination of delicate tastes. Enticed by the main course, some of us ordered desert and were very pleased we did. Our host (and owner) was cheerful, attentive and very informative. He has a good knowledge of local wines which we found interesting when we engaged him on the subject. His knowledge is evident in the very good wine list. While dining, our outlook was a beautifully tended 'English" garden which added to the enjoyable atmosphere. We will certainly return - soon!
